Blizzard used to be a remarkable developer. Starcraft pioneered the competitive gaming industry. Diablo 2 was still being played 20 years after coming out. Overwatch itself was another big step in their gaming portfolio. Unfortunately, it seems like they can’t help but step on their own toes.
Balancing the games 25+ heroes, creating new content, expanding a competitive scene, and fixing bugs has clearly stretched Blizzard beyond what it’s capable of. They needed to implement a role queue requirement to help address some of the balance issues, but in doing so created further issues, as well as a lot of bugs.
I’ve been playing Blizzard games since I was 8 and my parents made the terrible parenting choice of letting me play Diablo, but I think it’s a good time to let go.
Deleting your Blizzard account is a good way to make sure you hold your ground and don’t find yourself playing again in a week or a month when you’ve forgotten why you stopped in the first place.
The people who made Diablo have long since departed Blizzard.
The Blizzard of today doesn’t have the guts/love/inclination to make Diablo sequels dark and gritty like they should be. They rather push it in the direction of Warcraft high fantasy and action instead, which wasn’t really what the franchise was about originally.
Imo, Diablo should have remained a true horror game. So, it has fallen to others to capture that magic, such as with The Darkest Dungeon.
Diablo 3 is just a horrible mess of screen wiping spells and abilities that wipe out demons like they’re nothing.
And, call it “SJWs” or whatever you want to label it as… I do very much miss the dark Gothic aspects of the first Diablo. In that game you had a room of chopped up corpses and blood. You had fully naked succubus. You had rooms full of burning crosses.
It was just… hellish… Truly hellish. Because there was no real life concerns about “offending” someone, because it was assumed that people would have the intelligence to understand that reality and fantasy are two completely different things. I am 100% not a part of the battle between SJW’s and anti-SJW’s, but I am saddened that fiction can’t be what it wants/should be, and I have to turn to the indie market to find that magic (Darkest Dungeon).
Final Fantasy 8 has just been remastered and they censored the Siren’s look. Like… Whyy???
