I’m not a Tank player, but I think if we had to stick with 5v5 something has to be done about counter swapping. Hero balancing should be targeted at making one-sided Tank matchups like Zarya vs Dva or Orisa vs Rein less one-sided, maybe Defense Matrix can reduce incoming beam damage or Javelin can’t cancel Charge as some examples. There should also be a limit to hero swaps in my opinion, so people are encouraged to play around their counters than swapping every time they lose a fight.
I think that all the counter matchups should be looked at and that characters should only have an advantage against who they are meant to counter, not completely negate them.
Casses nade has always just been like a free kill button on certain characters, its not that difficult to land it because it has a decent aoe aswell. The counters should not be soo extreme, the slow makes you basically just stand still waiting to die, are unable to blink or recall. One button press and you are basically a free kill.
I think the easiest way to slow “counterwatch” is not make sure there is no additional advantage to swapping other than the hero v hero match up.
So I would get rid of retained ult charge. If that isn’t enough, make it start on -10 if you swap. I would also, on swap, make all cooldowns start on counter so you have nothing coming out of spawn. That one would be more to punish stalling.
I think a longer term fix, that would never happen. Is to have tanks with more kit overlap… If every tank just did variations of the same thing. Counter swapping would be over. But this is a won’t every happen dumb suggestion.
I think that anything we do or say at this point will, unfortunately, fall on deaf ears…
They’ve had their chance. Now, with so many new shooters coming out, both FPS and 3PS, they’ll have a hard time competing with them. I’m not saying every shooter coming out will be a direct competitor, but they’re bound to draw attention and thus lots of players away from this game, and they just can’t afford that right now, even if OW2 is free-to-play.
That just wouldn’t work with the overall design of the game.
It is not in our personal interests to debate whether a change will be made.
Because its not going to happen. Blizzard only cares about their version of overwatch also if you have recently visited their shop please buy some skins please.
you cant balance it. They have been trying for years. You wanna play 6v6, they have a great custom game for it. Balanced pretty damn well and is alot more fun than the rest of the game. I dont touch the normal game anymore, just 6v6 in custom games.
There are a few custom game codes floating about for workshop modes. But you will be reliant on having people willing to play at the same time.
Best option is to find a Discord community that is organising PUGs. But in my experience they aren’t overly reliable. Due to poor organisation, and lack of interest.
Sack the person(s) who are holding Overwatch 2 back with keeping 5v5.
Appoint person(s) who will work to bring back 6v6.
Announce to the world that the the ‘2’ from Overwatch will be removed.
2cp maps will return
All heros old Overwatch will configs will return, new heros will be barred until reconfigured.
Seasons 2 on said game will be their return once reconfigured.
The second paragraph would have sufficed. The request for people to lose their jobs because you didn’t like the decision they made was just a bit childish.
It’s a tough one. 6v6 brought alot of balance and synergies that we don’t see anymore. The devs are forever increasing the power creep to try and fix fundamental problems.
Even before OW they sample 5v5/7v7 and said it just doesn’t work.
But having tanks with huge health/armour pools does not make the game fun.
Man it was so funny, so much cringe.
And this guy talks about being childish.
Whilst the recent tank changes, are a little short sighted. Even 6v6 was heading for 1 tank.
I’m not sure a complete revert saves anything. But the direction they seem intent on going doesn’t look Rosey either. That being said, it is nice that they hot fixed the current patch so quickly.
I suspect the Aaron Dev update on it will be a lot of data on how 5v5 is the right move, they just haven’t landed it yet. I could see them trying a “hacked” event in he future. But it would be a big patch. But, where are the tank players going to come from. They’ve significantly increased players with ow2… Yet there doesn’t seem to be more tank players, can’t see them doubling or tripling them now.
By making the role fun. Why play the role when you’re just a single meat shield, forced into playing a certain way or playing a tank you don’t want to play due to the opposition tank counter picking.
October 2020 they achieved good queue times across all roles, and that was 6v6.
This is where I sort of agree with your friend hulk. They’ve made playing tank fun… And as a tank player, it’s a yay But the issue is it isn’t much fun for anyone else. And the patch has also strengthened counterwatch, which some people really dislike.
They did. They also improved them with 5v5, but it wasn’t (apparently) the objective.
Ultimately, whatever they do, if it’s awful people will play something else.
It will be interesting to see what they have to say on it. But I suspect there will be a lot of stuff in there that people are forgetting to consider through their biases one way or another.
Personally, I’ll just play either way. 6v6 was fun, 5v5 is fun.
