Issue: The Matchmaker puts players into ongoing matches that are 100% loss, no matter what we do, and doesn’t take the game state into account when trying to match you with people, resulting in 30 minutes of waiting and doing nothing while only seeing DEFEAT signs and voices from the game, which is a complete waste of time and morally devastating.
Example1: Payload almost pushed to the last point, everyone is dead, I connect to the game and I don’t even get to choose my hero, just lose with 6 minutes time left from the match. Which means that the matchmaker doesn’t take the game state into calculation, when choosing you an ongoing game.
Example2: It is 1-1 score on control point and it is occupied by the enemy team. I join the match, it is already overtime, 4 people are dead, 1 person is fighting 6 enemy heroes on the point and by the time I get to the point with Tracer or Lucio speedboost, I can’t even reach the control point and the match is over.
These are the perfect examples, where the game state is ignored by the matchmaker and after 2 minutes of waiting to get into a game, you get to play at most 5 seconds until you see the DEFEAT sign and you didn’t even play the game.
The worst scenario that could happen is that you just started up the game and you continuously getting into matches like this and you just quit the game, because the matchmaker performs vacuming up and down movements on a long stick-like object and won’t let you play the game by vacuming you up into an empty dust-bag, which is a synonym to a fresh new game.
The system can’t exactly distinguish how the match is going though. Yes a team could be completely steam rolling the other, but at the same time the other team night not even be trying (could have trolls or throwers). There have also been times when the match is going to hell, you are about to lose, but then you get a replacement (for someone who left) and suddenly you manage to salvage the entire match and end up winning.
So what can really be done about backfill. Should it be prevented if there is only a minute left in the match, or the payload is about to reach the destination? I don’t think so because even if you still win, you get some exp for doing nothing but that’s just my opinion. And then some players have suggested turning off backfill completely, but the downside to this is highly increased queue times.
I am not talking about those cases at all.
I am talking about a simple solution where at some point when the matchmaker sees how much percentage or time left until the enemy wins. (Same as in World of Warcraft you can estimate a time how much time it takes for the enemy team to win the battleground). And after that threshold the matchmaker just closes down that match, so people will not get matched into that game. (Same as in World of Warcraft battleground).
I’m not enjoying the wins that i got by turning a match over and playing for 30 seconds at all… and the issues i’m talking about are way worse when you continuously get matched into those. Shouldn’t it be fun if you get matched into a game?
Easy solution that has already been implemented and works perfectly.
That’s exactly what I mentioned, jeez people don’t seem to read. Essentially you want the system to recognise whether a certain amount of time is left (or potentially how close something is to the destination etc). But considering this, you would essentially be leaving a team down a player with no chance to salvage the match, who are you to decide if the match has no chance or not if everyone else is still trying their best to win.
Also as a game that works much more on teamplay compared to WoW pvp, I don’t think the idea can be replicated in this instance.
Ive never experienced 30min ques. Even when 6 stacking at 5am during week. I dont understand how you find ques this long.
I dont mind joining games like that. Especially solo queing the que times are like 5-15s during prime time and you get a lot of free and fast exp.
Well, in this situation, you need to calculate who’s fun worth more. Someone who has waited for 2 minutes to get into a 3 to 30 second match, who doesn’t get to play the hero they wanted and doesn’t get fun out of a win or even less fun if it’s a loss.
Or a team that has played several minutes, had their chances and got rolled and smoked anyways who need someone new to carry them back from the depts of loss.
And then the player who just joined and got the match result instantly will essentially carry that crap experience to the next one…
I got into 4 of these matches IN A ROW. So yeah, makes me not want to play the game at all…
So I think Blizzard should protect their players from such experiences. It’s just simply not fair to get a total of 1 minute gameplay for essentially 15 to 30 minutes of waiting.

Read the thread maybe? 30 min is summed up for the amount of games I played with matches like this???

Excuse me? It’s not blah blah game lost? It’s blah blah 3 seconds of gameplay for 2 minutes of waiting???
