Hello everyone ! I got a question for you if you aggree to give us your opinion here. So I play quite a lot of FFA (deathmatch) and I’m friendly most of the time.
Meaning I say “hello”, emote, sleep people and walk away, etc… Usually, some players understand I’m not a threat to them and act friendly in return.
But sometimes, there are some toxic and salty players saying that they are reporting me for “teaming”, but in reality, I just defend myself against very aggressive “foes”.
Knowing that statistically, being friendly gives you less kills, so less chances to get high score, so more chances for non-friendly players to win.
Also, FFA being technically playing 1 vs 7, with the “must be reported” mind set, does this means that your 7 enemies are “teaming” against you ? What do you think about reporting friendlies then ? Do you think it’s fair or not ?
I don’t know about the others “friendlies” in Overwatch and I don’t want to say that all cases are similar to mine, but I want to point out that I personally play friendly on FFA only. Never in QP or in any other game modes, and needless to say that this behavior is completely forbidden in any competitive game modes.
And until today, I personally didn’t know that there were a “SR/MMR” outside of competitive before your comment, and because of the huge variety of player’s skills you can witness in QP or any non-competitive arcade modes, so each game looks too randomised to me. That’s why it is hard to believe such a statement, but I got the information from an actual tech support and I trust it.
But I’m still not convinced to deserve reports for my acts as a friendly in FFA (and only in non-competitive FFA), for my own sake…
On top of that, I also often give tips and advices to some players that I feel can easily improve their game sens or knowledge about overwatch, and it ended by a friend request almost all the time.
Blizzard’s In-Game Code of Conduct
I totally aggree with the code of conduct regarding behavior, but it covers all their games and feels too general… For overwatch at least, It only makes sens to me when it’s about 2 teams opposing each other so what ever you do, throwing/feeding/sabotaging team mates line of sight/etc, seems so out of context in FFA where you are basically on your own. If you throw the game or stand still without harming anybody, you just represent a free kill to any random player passing by, that wants on purpose to kill you, knowing the fact that there will be no challenge what so ever (lack of skill/honor). I also never said that I want other players to be friendly with me, because if so, you are right by saying that it’s a better option to make a custom game, if you got the chance to attract others in a waste of time game mode, which is kinda hard, I can tell you by experience. I made many custom games to teach newbies what I know about the game, and even these tutorials are not so appealing…
So can we perhaps see FFA as a game mode where you are by yourself, not about teaming, but also where you have the choice of sparing or taking ones lives. Even the name of the game mode says all to me… “Free for all”, “deathmatch” not “must kill match”
(again this is my own personnal opinion)
Thanks for your answers and opinions, and for reading this post to this end so far.
