Is there a difference between gold and plat player?

I don’t really think there’s a mechanical skill difference between gold and platnium player. I know the difference between a silver and a gold player (a low-gold player might not be so different) yet climbing from gold to platnium was the easiest thing to do. The different thing is, 500sr, a silver portrait. Now diamond and platnium have some certain mechanical skill difference, which is easy to spot.

I want to know; is it hard to climb from gold? Is gold any different, if so how?

You put in your post climbing from gold to plat was the easiest thing to do ?

Are you talking about rank or player level borders ??

I think (since I had a long time in gold, rushed from bronze to gold ez)

In gold you know your hero, you know what you should do. But you are not really doing your job actually, at least not constantly.

In plat you actually do these things and you play your hero good. But not that consistent as you could.

In dia, you play your hero well and do your job consistently. Also you understand the ultimate tracking and the value of voice chat.

(tracer / dps pov (currently close to dia))

maybe there is no difference between a high gold player and a low platinum player, but their is a massive difference between a high gold player and a high platinum player, not only mechanics but positioning and awareness.

You can say that about any rank. He asked for the difference of gold and plat players.

Diamond-Master player here

Every rank from bronze to master basically gets mechanically better on average while gaining more and more game sense while one is climbing.

If mechanical skill had a numerical value like 1 in bronze and 6 in GM

Then on average everyone would rise about 1 point value every rank. While if game sense had a numerical score then it would be an exponential growth with Bronze through gold having very few differences and GM to top 500 having extremely large differences.

From what I can deduce, you get a lot more throwers and a lot less voice comms in gold. Quite simply, nobody in gold cares.

I’ve been stuck in gold or lower since I started comp, and when I came within a hand’s reach of platinum, I got knocked down to mid because of a leaver. Then I was knocked from mid to low because of a string of throwers and troll pickers.

Quite simply, soloqueuing in gold is about as smart as sticking your forefinger finger in a bottle you know you won’t be able to get out. In platinum, (I imagine anyway) it’s less risky.

You got knocked down because of a leaver? The difference between high and mid is greater than the 15-20 SR you drop after a loss.

I am high gold low plat.
And from time to time drop to mid or even lower gold.
And what i am noticing the most between mid gold and lower and high gold and plat are:

  • a lot more players that have no clue how to work in a team, a team fight will almost never happen, and if it happens it is pure luck and not planned. Fighting around and assisting a tank will almost never happens. Making the value of the tank be 0. And there is a high chance at least 1 player will already be killed before the first team fight starts. Making it a 5vs6.
  • Players usually know only a few heroes they can play well enough. If they have to switch they usually play far below rank. Like a dps that can also play hitscan if needed to kill a pharah. Or a dva that actually dive to dive targets and use matrix to help.
  • the insight to even see what is needed to be able to win. Good chance you have at least one game every 3 games where your setup is a complete mess. Or you will have 2 snipers as dps trying to kill a bastion behind 2 shield tanks.
  • and most important bad positioning and tunnel vision. Players just keep going shooting at stuff not paying attention to anything other then the target. Not caring if they run out of cover, or even into a 6 stack alone. Or taking better positions between fights. And make good use of chokes.
  • a lot more wannabe snipers or other players who play heroes they cant but just want to have fun and don’t care about others.

Actually the hardest thing for me was; Climbing from Plat to Diamond. I got masters then in one day :woman_shrugging:
But Plat to Dia took me almost one month

There are players in gold better than people in diamond

The SR system despises Support players. That’s all I can coherently say.

It’s not that hard. I have always been low gold tank player but have climbed into plat and still going ! it took me about 3 days of just playing in the evenings when I could. All you need to do is play your best hero and communicate with your team.

Sure mate xD “ItS My TeAm HoLdINg Me bACk”

He has a point to be fair, some players in gold are just as good as those in higher ranks.

There is a gulf in mechanical skill between platinum players and other platinum players. The SR system is broken, the way to climb is to get lucky with the matchmaker.

No it’s not it is to play well and grind performances.

I find it’s more important to play alongside a team who actually use voice comms for callouts and relaying info (“Zarya low.” “McCree flanking.” “Tracer has no Recall.” etc). That is everything.

Getting lucky with matchmaker helps but it’s not vital unless you’re soloqueuing.

No it doesn´t, remember the fact, that being a support player already heavily favours you in this game filled with DPS mains. You instantly guarantee a better team comp , through your hero choice, making on average you games more in your favour.
