It's No Mystery How Unbalanced Mystery Heroes is

Please can you take a look at Mystery Heroes, because even though it’s one of 2 constantly available game modes, it’s one of the most unbalanced. I’m not exaggerating here when I say 95% of my games, my team doesn’t get a healer until after the first three cycles of characters, whereas the enemy team get ridiculous picks. One team I just played got 2 Zaryas, a Torb, a Lucio, and 2 Soldiers which isn’t exactly fair, and suffice to say, the game was over quickly. One team earlier had 3 Torbs, which as you know is ludicrously hard to challenge. People will just say it’s random, but judging by the consistency of the unbalanced nature of it, this can’t be completely random. A simple change like removing the ability to have duplicate characters on the teams, and maybe a guaranteed healer to start with would make the world of difference, and I imagine would result in a lot less toxicity across the board…hope you consider something, even if it’s an experimental mode to test it…

It’s not meant to be “balanced”.

It is meant to be a random “mystery”.

Any change you mention will remove the “mystery” element.

It’s just all down to dumb luck and RNG.

Just funny how when you always get the hero you needed/wanted to turn the tide, you get an instant headshot/ult on you.

If they remove duplicate characters, it’ll still be random…just remove the frustrating aspect of 3 Torbs etc…

That wouldn’t be random if you know you can’t have certain things.

Same as it you added a role lock element.

Would take away the mess that mystery heroes is meant to be.

There are different levels of random, so why does it have to be the worst level? It would still be random, even if you removed duplicates, I mean there are over 30 characters to utilise. You’re entitled to your opinion, but the fact you’re saying it should be a mess makes me pretty sad. I’m sure a lot of players would welcome a change, especially with the state the game’s currently in…

Seeing as Mystery Heroes is the only mode I play daily and have been for the last 3-4 years I have to say to this:
NO

Yes I agree that sometimes the “balance” is totally bonkers, but that’s what makes it fun and challenging!!
Like ok, how do I deal woth 3 torbs with the team we have?
Most of the time we win against these weird “unfair heroes” simply cause we don’t give up and start pouting.

Fair enough, I don’t agree with your viewpoint, but hey ho. Personally, I find it to be the most frustrating mode because no matter how coordinated your team is, if you’re up against 2 Torbs, 2 Reins and a Bastion/Mercy combo, there’s no way to win that. I feel like if they tested a non-duplicate version in experimental, I reckon majority of players would prefer it…

I can’t stand the mode either. But random means random.

You know what you are signing up for when you hit queue.

True, but then I don’t think it should be a static feature, and should be rotated with other modes instead…

I won’t disagree there.

But all those modes have such tiny play rates, I don’t think it really matters to them.

Mystery Heroes is supposed to be stupid and unbalanced. The match outcome is decided more by RNGesus than skill.

A few years back Jeff said they we considering a “slightly balanced mystery heroes” mode, but apparently most people liked the chaos of the current mode and introducing another mode would fragment the player base even more.

Not really. Mystery heroes allow those of us who always queue as flex in QP to have a chance at playing dps without ridiciolous queue times.

But yes, I am also “always” on that team that never gets a healer myself. Tbh though, have you actually checked your overall winrates on Mystery Heroes? Me and my bf often feel we are on your described team here;

… However, our winrates are roughly around 50%, so we are clearly winning as much as we lose at least, pretty much. Though it seems to go in waves. We have nights where we seem to lose every game, then suddenly we have another night of 100% wins.

While it is annoying to face the ridicilous comps, I actually like Mystery heroes as it is personally. I play that and QP 99% of the time. In QP we always end up as tank or healer, so it is very nice that MH add us as dps, even when we end up with a full team of dps. And honestly, that can sometimes work too. While some heroes are obviously very strong in MH, it also really do depend on the player who gets assigned the character too. We have picked off teams that look “impossible” at first, simply because the players behind it couldn’t utilize it that well.

Its called “mystery” heroes for a reason, it being 100% rng based is also why its in the arcade section of the game
