Chat system is fun on pc as it is helpful and practical. So why not implement it on console, since people are sometimes shy or dont join the voice channel so chat system would be the only way of communication. Also if chat system was added on console, what button we should press to activate it. I play on ps and don’t really see a button that is unused except L3 which u use for push to talk. It would be interesting to see the chat system implied on console in the near future. I just want to know if blizzard is working on it or what
The more important question being how do you type in chat on the console ? Using the large software keyboard ? It wont work, as controllers don’t let you type fast enough 
Any chat system on console would have to recognise keyboard and mouse, and players against that wouldn’t want it. Even with controller its awkward to type anything and so a keyboard is much easier.
And even if the user plugged in a keyboard that would let him type, it breaks the experience of gaming immersion. Dropping your controller to type stuff on the keyboard, and then pick it back up… It simply makes for a bad user experience.
True but still it would be good if it existed even if it is slow. Like talking during intermission or while u wait to respawn. It wouldn’t be harmful if it existed
Well if it was me I wouldn’t do it… I would rather not give a functionality breaking the User experience. Most companies that value there brand image wont.
Dude have you played Rocket League on console? It’s got a chat feature that you can use in-game, and it’s terrible if one of your team are just sitting there frantically button mashing a sentence together while leaving their team a man down.
Can you imagine it? You’re trying to push through a choke point, but you can’t because your Reinhardt is busy stringing “GG EZ” together and not playing the game. Even reporting someone with a message can leads most players to an Inactive warning before being kicked.
Just use voice comms.
there should have been a chat system since launch theres really no dowside to having on console because look at games like rocket league they have a chat system on console and nothing is wrong with the game
You still missed the point about the keyboard and mouse issue. In an FPS (which rocket league isn’t) they can make a big difference and a lot of players would feel disadvantaged if one is a controller and another k+m. Blizz would have to accept them if they have a chat box.
i never stated that typing should be exclusive to typing on a keyboard besides currently on console you can’t plug in a keyboard and a mouse and use them because to blizzard its considered cheating and its not that hard to type with a controller as someone who dosen’t talk much could get good at typing with a controller
I know you didn’t, but you stated it should of been available from launch but it doesn’t really work on console in fast paced FPS like Overwatch. Yes someone can pick up their controller and type but it’s awkward, slow and sometimes unresponsive that by time you type something it would of been a waste anyway.
Blizzard do not state using k+m is cheating, it just creates an unfair advantage, which you can report people but it’s not a bannable offence.
Like rocket league has a chatting system, at the beginning I was slow in typing, but after a while I became 10 times faster in typing using the system’s keyboard. Also the keyboard has a word prediction system, so after a while you will be able to type sentences you usually type in seconds. So a person who plays on pc can’t make a fair argument, because they didn’t try the keyboard or just did not get used to it. And this argument that "you will see people not playing the game because they are slow at typing " is not specific for console it is also on pc. I know overwatch is a fast paced game, but I’m not gonna use the chat system to write paragraphs, I will be using it to type short sentences that are important, like switch to rien. Not mentioning that if a person wants to talk to the other but is not in team chat, he has to go to his profile on console and send him a massage, which takes alot of time, so chat system in overwatch seems like the ideal solution.

It would be integrated rather poorly because you would either need a keyboard for typing or it would take minutes to write 1 sentence.

Not sure if it’s worth it, since during the selecting of your words you’re basicly standing still doing nothing. Whilst on PC you could just type it. Most of the quick commands should be enough to communicate.
the console keyboard is extremely slow
it’d probably take at least 10 seconds to write 3 words
So what… better than nothing. U don’t need to type mid game and stand afk just type before round starts or while respawning
It defeats the purpose of having a chat box if you only intended to use it before round starts or respawning.
Chat box works best with an actual keyboard, if Blizz allows this then players that use k+m will shoot through the roof creating a major disadvantage for controller users.
