Just my opinion

As it says, this is just my opinion so feel free to take it or leave it. But I’ve played Overwatch since Alpha, I’m one of those no-lifers who’ve played pretty much every day and still loved it. I even met my new husband in game. I didn’t look forward to Overwatch 2 but I tried to stay open-minded. Here is my take:

The game is still fun, the heroes are still fun, and the maps are still fun but… the system is designed in a way that will kill the experience. Making rewards like skins only accessible through the battle pass forces people to play with the goal of completing their challenges. This means that for many games you get people who are playing tank or healer who A: Don’t really want to. B: Aren’t very good at it.

This results in a game experience filled with frustration both for them and their teammates. Oh but it’s like that for both teams, I hear you say. I’m really not sure how that’s any better.

Then we come to the store and the prices. The fact that an in-game skin costs more than a physical piece of merch is baffling. It’s obscene greed. They could cut the prices dramatically and still make a profit. I know I’m happier paying small amounts more often than big amounts not as often.

Finally, I have no idea why this is unless it’s a by-product of my first comment but playing as a healer is soul-destroying. The amount of times I and my fellow healers have endured vitriolic abuse from our team who expect us to be miracle workers and pander only to them is just insane. I’m not even close to being a pro player but I am a damn good Moira and will heal like a demon, I know my positioning, I know when to DPS and when to heal but it doesn’t matter.

No matter how well we play people will always crap on their healers. There is no positivity, no joy in playing unless it’s with friends now.

I look forward cautiously to seeing how the game progresses but I don’t dare to hope too hard…

I see your point and I agree with what you said previously that the game at its core is still fun and I can share the sentiment of finding my partner through over watch even if she doesn’t play anymore, in fact a few of my close friends don’t really play the game anymore. I don’t want to spend money on the game, I have enough cosmetics after playing for 6 years now plus I just don’t have the means to splash money on overwatch but again ignoring the cosmetics you can still play the game and enjoy it for what it is.

This is true. Part of the fun for me though was making sure I had every cosmetic, I loved the challenge of it. I think at the end there wasn’t a single skin or emote /intro missing with the exception of the overwatch league team colours.

Sad but I liked it. I just feel so bad for people who don’t have the time to grind through the battlepass to earn back enough to unlock the next one.

The proxy OW1 challenge to get all the cosmetics could only be done with a lot of time and a bit of money, so in that sense, it hasn’t changed… more the balance has changed to being a bit of time and a lot of money.

I think you are a like me, and many others, we are no longer the target audience for this game. Some seem totally unwilling to accept that, which is quite funny. But there is nothing wrong with just playing a fun game for fun and that being that.

I won’t let my issue with the way they choose to monetise the game ruin my experience. Long gone are the days where games are a one time purchase, realistically there has always been micro transactions in games, especially in online ones like call of duty. Season passes, camos and more; it’s always been there.

I was missing some stuff like the limited time owl skins and pink mercy, I also missed another few weekly challenge skins as my PlayStation was acting up, it was deadlock Ashe I didn’t get.

OW1 was just more fun, a truly special and unique experience, and the last few seasons the balance was actually really good. I see OW2 as a re-jumbling of the chess pieces to make a game that brings in more money, all while OW1 was removed altogether. Ultimately all this leaves a bad taste in a lot of gamers mouths and it’s understandable. Where is all the PVE massive single player campaign we were always told about? It just feels like this is all about money.

Exactly.

I am not a fan of what they’ve done. But it isn’t terrible and I can see exactly why they’ve done it and what they are trying to do.

The CoD example is a good one, as that is the model they’ve copied.

This I’d have to disagree with. Double shield was a huge turn off, and OP Hog was so boring to play against. But then they have Sojourn and Hog now… so the more things change, the more they stay the same…

Same here. So I totally feel you.

How though…

Agreed, which is why I own the BP, but I certainly do not wish to try to attempt any of their weak attempts at making the game more rewarding by fixing the way I play to achieve a medal.

This is a competitive FPS shoot, we don’t need “Well done” stickers.

Likewise, if something was a lot cheaper, or earnt through the ingame currency that you can earn, I’ll be happy to put it towards said item.

Yep, that is the life of the healer in this game at present.
The other side of it is extremely lopsided matchmaking. Many times I’m grouped with new/idiot DPS who can’t dmg/kill.

You’ve never answered one of my questions… but ok I will humour you.

Hog became meta in OW1, the tank player base disappeared. The same happened in season 1 of OW2. Hog meta = bad for the game. That is a common belief.

As for how he is boring… He just lived forever and gets random, low skill, one shots. Given that they changed Reins charge so he couldn’t 1 shot every DPS, a charge that requires you to make a massive risk filled investment to pull off… vs Hog that can 1 shot every DPS and Support for little to no risk.

Add in a Kiriko to pocket him and he is a big, pig mask wearing, pile of tedium.

Not to mention the occasions where you really annoy that hog player and they wholehog you into a wall. Been there multiple times

All they really need to do is reduce his HP to 500 and reduce the self heal to 200 and you are well on your way.

Being that tanky and deadly is crazy. 700 HP when Rein is only 625 and has no way of being a threat half the time is absurd.

Agreed, hog doesn’t really offer any utility to his team either. The best thing he can do is hook and one shot an ulting dps.

I kind of agree with Flats video the other day though. He might actually be a nessecary evil, given the power of a Mercy pocketed DPS like Sojourn (and maybe Widow, Ashe and so on).

So the nerfing of Hog might actually just open up and double sniper meta, which would by proxy render the rest of the tank pool pointless… Bar the monkey.

Dva might be able to contest snipers if we fall into a double sniper meta.

Maybe, but I think Monkey will be more use with the shield, briefly gives your pocketed snipers a moment to land shots (or a breather while theirs reposition).

if they had not adopted this model they would had closed this game for good .there would not had been a overwatch 2 .so as they say take it or leave it

What are you basing that on?
