I got an idea for King of the Hill maps. Currently you capture and hold the point for a specific amount of time so it’s basically a timer that uniformly ticks down. The only problem with this is the 99/99 99/99 99/99 games that happen, clearly there’s no real winner here, this can comes down to who started the 99/99 chain. It’s frustrating and nobody likes it, I’ve heard people say they’d prefer best of 5 to return for a fix but I’ve got a better idea for KotH I think.
Instead of a timer that just ticks down on time held, we play the capture point for actual points, each round has 3 separate ‘mini-rounds’ where the point becomes active and you fight for it, the team who captures the point and holds it for X amount of time (not long) get a point, then capture zone deactivates. Winner of the round is whoever has the most points up to a maximum of 3 to win the round, do this 3 times. The reason I feel like this might work better is because you often get set fights happen that define how the match plays out 1st 2nd and 3rd fights with ult swing, this format would define these fights more and maybe even stop the continuous ‘bleed’ teams suffer when trying to capture a ticking point back.
Essentially removing a ticking clock from the game in favour of just points earned like goals scored, defining fights and win condition.
