Every player should be allowed one MMR reset for their account every two years…
This means that they won’t need to make a new account to get fresh MMR…
And it addresses the argument that Blizzard can’t do a global reset because it would shake up the ranked system too much…
Of course a global reset would still be preferable…
In addition all players should be able to request MMR data to be sent to them to view the value the same way they can do for SR…

And to prevent massive waves of MMR reset request, they could also make time window for it for specific player batch, and across several ranks to ensure diversity in the match making.
I recently thought it’d be interesting to have a system so the player can be asked if they’d like to compete in a rank higher than what they are at at the moment. Let’s say you’re on a winning streak but you keep loosing enough to be stuck in plat 4 or 3. The game would then tell you “hey we’ve noticed your performance but you seem stuck, maybe you’d like to compete in a higher rank and see if that works for you”. You can then accept or deny, and depending on that your MMR can adjust:
- you loose = MMR was good, you loose a bit less SR (adjustement)
- you win = MMR was not calibrated, you’ll be match in a higher rank (plat 4 to plat 2 for example).
To avoid players being placed in the wrong rank you’d have requirements like play 50 games, to avoid people in bronze being placed in plat you know? And you could also put players in similar position in the enemy team, so it’s balanced for players already in that rank.
