Let's Talk Genji

Disclaimer: I am a mediocre Genji at best, my intention is to see how the rest of the community feels about Genji in his current state.

I’m aware Genji is a skilled hero, the better the player, the more impactful he’ll be. But I cannot help but feel, that with Moira, Brigitte, Zarya, Mei, Mccree, Pharah, Junkrat, Symmetra, and Roadhog, Genji feels a bit risky of a pick.

Add to that the fact that his effective range is Melee Range, in a meta where the backline is super inaccessible, and you’re left with a style of play where he pokes till blade. Just better to take Hanzo, Junkrat, Pharah, Widow. Or Doomfist, Reaper, Tracer for the safe flanks, because they all have easy outs.

And his ult is kind of a cherry on top. Without Grav, Earthshatter, ect, it’s just kind of a guarantee that the enemy is all going to turn on you, and throw every CC possible in the game at you. Obviously, really good Genji’s will know when to blade, vs when not to, but it just seems like unless there’s some sort of CC or you’re gonna be spending 2 seconds off your blade deflecting.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure I just peeled off a very old scab, so tell me, even if you think i’m totally wrong, what are your thoughts? Doo you agree? Or is he in a good place? Does CC need to get toned down? or maybe he just needs a slight tweak? Thanks in advanced!

I don’t really know how to reply to this but i’ve always felt like genji is a cool hero and stuff but he’s always been so useless when we have him on our team.

And i think he sometimes can be useless because the only thing genji has that is effective is his reflect.
It’s annoying af but i think he should get looked at and many changed him up a bit.

I mean yeah some genji players can be good i know that, but that is just my opinion on this hero.

Genji is annoying and I hate him. He’s not a “skilled hero” until you get to a high level and are able to make him work against coordinated teams. Up until then, it’s just jump above enemy’s head while spamming shurikens and landing one out of every 10 and using your invincible ability plus dash + melee to 90% of your kills until you get your “every 30 seconds” ult, while thinking that makes you good.

Pretty much this.

Of course when you are against a premade, all coordinated, its not easy, but with which character is it ?

NOONE.
Lets not forget he is basically invincible every 8 secs, for 2 secs.

To make him more consistent in dealing dmg, they should put a cd on the double jump, reduce the dmg of the shurikens, but incresing the speed. The ult is “fine” but i would love to see a hitbox adjustement

Genji has an extremely forgiving kit, he had it easy prior to moira. Finally he got challenged and there’s nothing bad about that.

His ult is one of the best ones in the game, just because everyone looks at genji when he ults doesn’t change that. It’s the same with every ult, just different ways of dealing with different ults.

I’ve seen so many genjis that ult and go straight for Brig and a lot of the times dies. Now the ult finally requires more planning then just double dashing across the map.

This whole shuriken business… Genji is a missed opportunity to create an awesome melee swordman. With Hanzo’s movement abilities almost being identical without being limited by cooldowns, and the Hanzo ultimate being Risk-free - along with being able to burst down just about every target every few seconds, I’m having a hard time seeing Genji’s current role in game.

If it was up to me I’d totally rework him so the normal playstyle would be sword-centered, kinda like during his ultimate, but obviously with less damage. More slashing and dashing and leaving the shuriken for the few occasions where it’s just not possible to get in close.

Yeah I would absolutely be on board with that. Genji is of course, a flanker with the passive abilities and swift strike, but those would only complement the melee play.

He is falling behind by a good margin, definitely needs to get some love.

No. There are enough smurfs who use him to great effect to dominate lower tier teams. We don’t need more.

we had 6 seasons of genji dominance where he was pretty much unstoppable if played right and suddenly he start falling a bit out of the meta and boom he need a buff ? no thanks , i still wait for his swift strike hitbox to be reduce

Yeah agree that he does not need a buff, but a melee focused rework would be cool. Might even play the hero once again, been utterly bored playing him for at least over half a year.

NERF STUPID SHOTGUN.

Don’t care about buff or nerf either. Just saying that to me he is too similar to Hanzo now in way too many ways. That’s obviously not because of what Genji has become, but because of what Hanzo was turned into.

Hanzo is similar to every DPS character because he can take over the role of each one.

Well, no other DPS character has the mobility of Hanzo, something that used to be unique to Genji.

-Dash: very forgiving in aim. Doesn’t require a lot of aim.
-Fan of blades: same, no aim required. Spammed in general direction and used in mosts kills while you jump around your target with double jump and cyber agility (not even considering right click melee combo).
-Reflect: one of the best defensives in the game and of the few which can be cancelled on demand. Also (used to have) very broken hitbox as countless threads and videos already proved.
-Dragonblade (ult): massive hitbox.
-One the best mobility in the game with wallclimb, (vertical) dash, double jump and passive increase on movement spead.
-No damage falloff on left click (basically a sniper).
-Able to play at a very high sensitivity (which is very helpful) since he doesn’t need to aim.
-Able to get out of sticky situations way easier than most dps heroes.

Now tell me OP, how is Genji a skilled hero?

hahaha genji buff…hahahah oh man…genji got a bloated kit and the tools to outplay even the counters…so i hope not. Whats next? tracer buff? or maybe a junkrat?

I agree with the second part, but not the first. The shurikens are ez to land but hard to headshot, its like with mcree u just have to have good aim. But dragonblade is really hard to pull off because especially with hammond and brigitte coming in, all that cc is gonna disrupt ur dash and find yourself in the middle of the enemy

i think he needs to be invulnerable during dashes and deflecting. too many times have i dashed through someone and still been shot. i feel like in this meta he’s the same as torb with mobility. they give hanzo a lunge because he is part of the shimada clan but don’t give genji the increased projectile speed or the unlimited ammo. what im trying to say is genji needs tweeking give him unlimited ammo and when he’s deflecting nothing can hurt him and lower the cooldown of it slightly to match brigettes stun.

the only difference when he ults he has to be right up close to the enemy not like anyone else.
