Level DOES Matter

So this has been an issue for me for a long time. I’ve been getting low level team mates who just finished their placements and enemy teams who have higher levels.
I know that your play time doesn’t show your skill but it shows your experience. Low levels lack experience, they probably got boosted trough their placements and got their rank. Even if it isn’t the case, there’s no denying that a person who played the game for a fair amount of time is better than a person who is at 25-30 level.
What I’m asking for is that blizzard makes a matchmaking system which also takes level to attention. This would probably cause a longer queue time, and the solution to that is to make this feature an option.

There’s a whole camp of people claiming all lvl 25-ish players are smurfs and ruin the games by being too good.
Anyway you could just play with a full stack, thus avoiding this problem you have with low levels

Well that’s what I’m doing rn. But I shouldn’t be obliged to do that.

You aren’t.

You just don’t prefer low level teammates.

Your preference means nothing

You just don’t prefer low level teammates.

Yes, that’s what I said lol. What is your point here? My point is that low level players lack experience which is needed for competitive play. Now that I think about it, the competitive requirement can be moved to 100 levels as another solution.

Your preference means nothing

Well how can you say that? I’m a part of this community and I’m free to share my opinion and you disagreeing doesn’t make my “preference” meaningless.

If you let Blizzard choose your team mates then you’ll have trouble with team quality no matter what level your team mates have. Use LFG and then you can filter for anything even if you have to do some of the filtering verbally or manually.

In LFG I usually ask for level 100+ and put “level 100+” to the group title. A lot of people don’t read it (or can’t read) or claim to be smurfs and I simply ask them to leave or kick them if they don’t. Above about level 100 a player has to have a lot more extra levels (e.g.: gold or platinum border) to make a difference in my opinion. In the first hundred levels people gain a lot of basic knowledge in a passive way even if they are lazy and don’t even try (e.g.: map knowledge, finding out the effects of other hero’s abilities, etc…). After that only active education works effectively.

The problem with low level ranked players is that they might have matches in which they perform well but this is very inconsistent without experience. In other matches they might perform several ranks lower.

Well no, not really. Are you saying someone who’s level 1000+ and is silver is better than someone who did their placements and got Grandmaster? (That’s probably not possible but its just hypothetical)

You’re point means very little

Just because you have an opinion doesn’t make that opinion valuable in any way.

You don’t like playing with low level players because you think that they aren’t experienced enough. You feel that because of that, the game should be shaped around you and that you shouldn’t have to use the lfg system. As your opinion is in your eyes valid.

It’s not

And never forget the alt accounts, not everyone is smurfing.
You can be gold and have 3 accounts in gold.
1 lvl 1780
1 lvl 65
1 lvl 30
Thats not smurfs, just other accounts.

I personally play on my alt accounts since I litteraly have any item I want on my main.
So those lootboxes have a meaning again.

The account is lvl 32 and I play around my default elo.

Ok maybe bc my name shows that I atleast know which game I’m playing. And as its the name of the hero I’m playing. I guess ppl just trust me, or keep themselves quiet bc I never heard complains…

It DOES matter, under 50 there are bunch of noobs, but it is enough to get to lvl100 to be able to master at least 2-3 heroes. From that point I just don’t see how could you get better with them unless blizzard puts in 2 more buttons with abilities  Imagine how hard it would be to become good with a hero if they would have 3 pages of skills like in WoW.

What is a fail tho from Blizzards side is the STAR at your name and lvl reset display. We Diablo players got used to seeing the full level like 753 not that you get a star and the counter goes back to 1 again.

I agree with your point that there are alt accounts which aren’t necessarily smurf ones but you have to live with the fact that some people might filter you out for your low level.

I also agree that opening loot boxes on new accounts can be fun/exciting compared to level 400+ accounts where you get only duplicates from 9 out of 10 boxes. This is actually some value for the price paid for the alt account.

I don’t expect anyone to trust me, but My tracer accuracy is terrible on my main… All these days randomly spraying around dropping below 25% is hard to get back up high.
On my alt I’m around 35-40% i just do alts to see clean stats since I don’t play the heroes in comp, I dont have clean stats on them on my main.

It’s also just for some qp. I usually play on my main anyway. Bc of the fancy skins i have there

But it’s true in both ways.
You can’t expect a lvl 500 to blindly trust a lvl 25 especially in comp. As a good dps can be plat and still have no idea how brig. Works.
Same as you can’t expect all lvl 25 to be trash.
If IDDQD plays comp on a lvl 25 alt acc. He’s aware of anything you just don’t know if he has these 700lvls in total experience since you only see 25.

But if I see a lvl 28 in a dia game, then I expect them to perform on a dia lvl.
Sr = skill
Lvl =! Skill

Watch a sym main with 100h and you see that both ways are possible bc a lvl 800 tracer one trick won’t do such fancy stuff as sym.

To sum it up:
Sr / mmr = skill.
Lvl = playtime and maybe experience.
Endorsement = player behavior and/or playtime after the endorsement update.
Gold weapons = fav hero or just bc it looks cool.

The good thing with public profiles is you see if they perform on theyr sr with how many heroes.
If you pick reinhardt and have a reinhardt one trick, you know it if ge tells you, or if its public, you see it and pick something else.

Tl:dr

Theres no general rule

It would be nice to have statistics for the last X days, weeks or months. Aggregating the full history is quite useless.

Come on! Regular weapons look better! Gold weapons are snob!

You have to try them how compatible they are with you in a team and how many trivial mistakes they commit (like constantly overextending). If trying happens in comp then it’s better to be a safe player and ask for those 100+ levels.

Tbh I feel the same for the golden guns… Especially since I’m using the OWL skins, the weapon looks worse than originally. Since all the details are gone or barely visible.
Especially with everyone running around with golden guns.

Compare tracers Rose skin gold weapon with her sporty skin golden guns. Sporty loses details, rose keeps them.

Jep it’s always a risk if going into comp.

Skins have their own colour/material themes and gold is a bad fit for most. I’m surprised that some people who otherwise don’t like and don’t play competitive still grind just to get a golden weapon.

If you are playing in such circles then running around without golden guns you’ll not only look better but you’ll be special.
