In Competitive “Stadium” mode, if a player disconnects early in the match and never returns, the game continues as a 4v5, and the rest of the team receives a full rating penalty if the match is lost.
- A disconnected player receives appropriate penalties.
- Remaining players are not penalized for leaving the match.
- However, they still lose rating, even though the game was unbalanced from the start and unwinnable in practice.
This leads to unnecessary frustration and undermines the competitive integrity of the system.
Implement a loss forgiveness mechanic similar to the one in Dota 2. In Dota, if a player disconnects and doesn’t return for the majority of the match, the game is marked as invalid for ranking purposes for the rest of the team. The disconnected player is punished, but others do not lose rating.
Applying a similar solution in Overwatch 2 would improve fairness and reduce the impact of uncontrollable variables on ranked progression.
