Lost connection to game server

Hey, recently i have been experiencing a connection issue which makes me suddenly lose connection to the server. It starts out with my character moving the direction i was moving when the issue starts, then after a couple of seconds everyone on the map freezes while i am still able to move. Then the screen goes black and im sent into the loading screen as if i am reinstancing, then it loads back in for a second and im booted to the login screen which retrys the connection and puts me back in the main menu instantaneously. This happens seemingly random as account, game mode, other people using the internet and time of day is irrelevant. It can happen zero times in 8 hours of playing or like the other day when it happened 3 times within 1-2 hours. I have been experiencing this issue over the past 3-4 weeks and it is getting really frustrating, when it happens im still connected to discord and have acces to web pages.

I believe my connection is stable and im connected with a ethernet cable, and my speeds are 100 up and 100 down. I have not noticed this problem in any other games. I got 3 clips where i recorded what happens when the issue appears while i also brought up the in-game network graph. (Cant post links so remove the parenthesis if rellevant)

I have checked out the Connection troubleshooting article over at: /support/en/article/99037?utm_source=internal-support_forums&utm_medium=posting&utm_campaign=BlizzardCSEU&utm_content=solution, however nothing seemed to make a difference.

As i have been experiencing the issue for a while i have used the Blizzard looking glass tool multiple times, the times when i used it everything seems normal to me, however i noticed when i ran it today that i got a 100% packet loss on my first test. I ran it 3 times for good measure and attempt #2 and #3 yielded normal results (Results at bottom). Hopefully something in here can be of help to crack this puzzling issue.

Specs:
Ryzen 1700x stock speed (boosts up to 3.8ghz)
16 Gb DDR4 Ram (Rated for 3000Mhz but runs only at 2133 :face_with_raised_eyebrow:)
Gtx 1070 (Boost clock factory set to @1771MHz)
Game is installed on an SSD

Apart from the Looking Glass, could you perform the following tests and paste the results here? They often show extra data that can be very useful when investigating this kind of issue:

  • Traceroute (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)
  • Pathping (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)
  • WinMTR (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)

I have been experiencing the exact same thing as badfreddyboy for about 3 weeks now. And so has my friend I play with. I have also seen couple of teammates/enemies experiencing this same issue.

Same for me and a friend i play with.
Usually happens around 22:00 in the evening(swedish time) ping is all good (around 40) and then we start rubberbanding out of nowhere and get thrown out. Even lost connection to bnet today. Discord and all other apps works fine.
It started happening just a few days ago and its usually only that one time per night it happens too. We can, most of the time, sign back in after a minute or 2 and continue playing which is good but its still annoying. :slight_smile:

Same happend to me. Yesterday i was able to reconnect fast, so i finished the match, with a win and got abaout 25SR. Tonight, the server lost connection, although my internet connection was working fine, i was talking in discord and stream was online the whole time. The bad thing tonight, while i tried to reconnect, the Launcher performed an 750MB Update. NICE, NOT! so it took a short while, irejoined the match, we still won Oasis and I lsot 50SR.

Blizzard, are you KIDDING me? i rejoin a match, in time, which i lost due to YOUR server problems, and get -50SR although i WON the game? WHY? i mean that is -75SR in total… Get your server up and running. pls.

Aight, today the issue appeared again this time during the new Archives mission. Interestingly enough i was playing with 2 friends, and one suffered the same problem at the exect same time as me. Anyway i ran the Pathping, Traceroute and WinMTR tests afterwards.

Right, i contacted my ISP and they told me they made “some adjustments” whatever that means. Hopefully that fixes things :sunglasses:

Yes of course, now everyone’s ISP is faulty!! Are you actually ignoring all other posts regarding disconnects (there are a LOT) on purpose??? This is clearly something blizzard has to do something about, not every player!

How about Blizzard talks to it’s ISP!!

well… i have this problem for more that 3 weeks and nope its not providers fault at all… this is problem with blizzard servers because when i get server dissconnection error and iam in loading screen trying to log in my steam, uplay, discord and twitch are still online only battlenet launcher is dissconnected and OW does not have server connection… sometimes it kicks back on in few seconds and sometimes iam not able to log in for few minutes and then competitive match is lost and everyone blaming me and probably reporting me for leaving… i swear if i get banned from playing OW again because blizzard cant fix server connection issues then i quit playing all games from blizzard (i stop playing hearthstone on mobile phone too) because only for this season thanks to theese dissconnections i lost maybe 150 matches because when i joined back my ult charge and everything was reseted and sometimes it happens twice per match and sometimes its fine for few days without any problems… OW devs are ruining my game experience with nerfs and buffs and now this… i suggest stop nerfing/buffing heroes and start fixing that connection issues and start banning smurfs, throwers and toxic players (BTW i was called toxic when i asked a really bad tracer player to switch to reaper and then he started screaming at me how toxic i am and started being racist). Long post i know but 30 mins ago i got dissconnected from competitive match but my teammates were toxic anyway so i havent joined and went straight here. O/

Been having the same issue and it has been going since the Storm Rising update, possibly even longer than that.

It’s always the same, my character keeps moving in a direction and I can’t stop him. I can see everyone else still playing, and after a few seconds everything stops and I get the disconnect.

This is definitely an issue on Blizzards end and not our connection. A lot of EU palyers are having this problem, I hope they atleast acknowledge it and try to fix it… not fun to lose -50 SR every time I want to play ranked.

At least stop banning and make people lose points for this kind of issues.
get disconnected from blizzard servers everything else works fine and by the time you manage to connect back in game, the match is over and you lose SR 50 points and a ban.
This is not nice blizzard. Seriously a lot of people have similar issues. And your response is to blame the internet and the internet providers.

Ya, as mentioned earlier i contacted my ISP and had them do their stuff, didnt really get any conclusion from it, they mostly restarted stuff and etc. It didnt change anything as i have experienced the issue after that. But looking at the amount of other people experiencing this it seems to be a connection problem from the server side somehow.

they are not fixing this issue, main servers are in America and they are fine and only thing they do is sending us to some link on blizzard support site and there you can read how your provider blocking your internet connection. my provider is not blocking anything tho but still iam having disconnection issues every day just on blizzard games.

but how they can know you havent unpluged your internet cable? they just cant do stuff like that, they need to fix EU servers!

I have started to notice that the issue isnt exclusive to overwatch, but rather the battle.net client overall. This also connects the disconnection issues i have experienced in hearthstone and WOW as well. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I have also noticed that it happens while im not playing anything and its just running in the background.

Alright, the issue i have experienced is without a doubt caused by random disconnects from the battle net client at random times. Basicaly losing connection and reconnecting for 5 seconds or so, this causes me to lose connection in any blizzard game i am currently playing. I can tell when the connection to the game stops and i look at my friends tab, which says everyone including me is offline amd it says reconnecting for a few seconds.
I ran the looking glass test to the battle net authenticator and posted the results below.

ehh mate, dont post your traceroutes… this is not yours or your providers fault… Battlenet by it self keeps dissconnecting from blizzard server… internet working fine and you cant do anything about that… just play on America servers and you will be fine… i never got dissconected from America servers or from Asia servers… Problem is with European servers and blizzard does not care about that… Also if Battlenet is dissconected from Blizzard server then Overwatch automatically dissconect because the game is connected trough battlenet…
