Hi everyone !
So here’s my problem : I recently got a new PC, it’s supposed to be able to run Overwatch at high performance (60 to 120 fps)… But when I launch the game, it’s stuck at 48-50 fps on low settings, when I put the graphics on epic, it falls to 20 fps.
The only way I can get a smooth gameplay is when I put the resolution on lowest (1280x900 instead of 1920x1082), and even then it’s at 60 fps, when I know my PC is capable of going to 120…
I’ve installed the latest nvidia drivers and removed the settings.ini in the documents, removed xbox and windows DVR, removed the Battlenet streaming aswell…
Here are my specs :
CPU : Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6gb
RAM : 32Gb DDR4
Windows 10 Pro
Thanks in advance for your support !
Have you checked the in-game video settings? Maybe the game limits itself to 60 fps.
My spec is i5 8600k, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 6GB and I’m using an 1440p monitor. Since I’m using a fix renderscale of 75% it means that the rendering is done basically in 1080p like in your case.
In order to achieve stable 120fps I’m not running with max (only high) graphics settings but it looks wonderful. I could upgrade to a GTX 1080 but I don’t play a lot of different games and OW looks good enough with my current setup so that I didn’t bother with an upgrade.
On the login screen the game uses the in-game fps while in the main menus it always caps the fps to 60 (because it would make no sense to stress the cpu when you aren’t in action, 60 is very good for clicking menus). On the hero selection screen the GPU usage is a bit higher than during normal gameplay (probably because of the blur effect on the background). For this reason I recommend tweaking the video settings by starting a custom game.
In another tech support topic I gave a very detailed explanation of how I tweaked my video settings and some of those tips might help you to debug your issues too: Performance Problem Do I have a bottleneck? - #4 by TRON-2667
You might be able to use msi AfterBurner or similar software to print useful info (CPU/GPU usage) to the screen while you are in-game.
I would investigate into the graphic settings from overwatch, and reduce them in the trainings area untill you reach the desired fps on a stable lvl.
I’m running a gtx 970 3.5gb and it can rock solid 165fps on 1080p with litteraly anything low/off 75%renderscale(with 100% it gets about 144fps)
But sometimes when I start ow it’s locked to 60fps and only a reboot free’s it back high.
Even if a gtx 1060 should perform quite 2x as good as my 970
My specs: i7 7700k OC 4.58ghz, 16gb DDR4, gtx 790, 2k 165hz screen playing in 1080p
I have an 8700k 16GB RAM and 2 1080’s and have had my game dipping in frames as far as 30 and below even that at times and never recovering until the game is usually done. I’ve downloaded all my drivers, refreshed all my stuff repaired game, deleted cache, and am using NVIDIA’s own recommended settings and I still can’t get the game to run the way it’s suppose to. Have any of you figure it out?
The game decided that you have too much of a good thing!
I’m having the same problem as you. Have you by any chance figured it out?
Hey GriffHero,
Thank you for using the search function to try and find a solution or answer, but please do not bump such old threads. If you cannot find a recent thread that matches your description, create a new thread for yourself instead.
Before that though, give the steps listed in the Overwatch Performance Issues Support article a go.
