After I played quick play and FFA deathmatch for a long time, I noticed that I got exhausted and the game got boring. So I have taken a break from playing overwatch and did something else. A few days later, I got back to harass mercy as Tracer.
Getting gameplay fatigue is rather normal. Not everyone can enjoy something 24/7 all the time. However, that gameplay fatigue got rarer thanks to the arcade and especially custom games. It offers variety to the game by playing game modes like hide and seek, the floor is lava, infection, and more. And that variety allows the player to enjoy the game in different ways without the feeling of “having enough”.
So the question is, why don’t we broaden the variety by adding event-based arcades into custom games? LucioBall, Mei’s Snowball fight, Yeti hunt, etc.: Those unique game modes are fun and exciting to play.
Some might argue that you can play Rocket League instead of LucioBall and you can find Ana Paintball matches instead of waiting for X-Mas to hunt a Yeti. That might be true but by enabling LucioBall, for example, Blizzard would appeal a target group in some sort of way, who have an interest in Football related games and those who already love LucioBall could enjoy it all the time.
Now I do reckon the reason why they don’t make it available the whole time is because the events might seem less appealing when people can already play the event-based arcade games anytime.
That is why it should be available only in Custom games. In that way, it will be like a “hidden gem” that won’t be present in an obvious way, but accessible when doing some digging. It would also give the custom games more variety, allowing to keep the players’ interest in the game.
Well, that is my opinion and I must say, my affinity towards some of the event-based arcade games might cause me to have a bias towards my idea. However, it would be interesting to hear the opinions of others on that suggestion.
