Match Making MMR Transparency

It seems the Match-Making of this game is quite controversial topic.
A lot of complains about it’s quality, and there is even some theories that the MM forces the behavior of a game, eventually leading to a victory/defeat.

Personally I think something may be wrong, I find sad because I see my friends which I used to play playing the game less often because the quality of the games.

I wonder why not having some transparency about the MMR? Why aren’t we able to see that magical number that is used by the MM? I think that could end a lot of discussions and theories concerning the MM.

I don’t think it will sadly.

The types of people that want to blame it now, if they’re told it’s been perfect all along will just find something else to blame their inadequate game play on.

In reality, they are better off just ignoring the tears, and cracking on with things that actually make a difference.

What else would they blame?

I find some transparency would be good seeing the quantity of people complaining about it… There is already games like Dota 2 who seems to display the MMR of each player to everyone

Given they type of people that blame such things, they will find literally anything to blame.

I agree though, some transparency would be interesting, but I don’t think it will have any impact other than push the “criers” on to another target of blame.

In general it would be a lot of work and risk for the Devs for basically zero gain. So, as I said above, it’s better that they ignore it and work on stuff they think will actually have impact.

I don’t understand why wins and loss are the main driver of ranking.

No other ranked game I play acts this way.

If I have an exceptional game with 4 bad players, my ranking shouldn’t be based on 4 bad players. I get it has to play some part but they need to break down individual performance for ranks because as it stands I can never progress on my silver account.

35 kills, 40 assists, 2 deaths, 22k healing, lose the game and I lose 24% of my rank progression.

The reset did nothing to help.
My diamond account went back to diamond, my silver account stayed in silver and my gold stayed in gold.

Why? If I’m a diamond player why does my other account on a reset go to silver despite 9 wins out of 10 but my diamond stayed diamond after 5 wins in 10…

I know people higher ranked than me who just don’t play anymore because the games aren’t evenly matched.

Because other options are easy to manipulate. It’s easy to stat pad in OW, which would lead to easy boosting of accounts.

At least with wins and losses, you want to climb, you need to play with your team and work to the objectives.

Getting good isn’t just about aiming better and shooting more. Unlike other games, overwatch is a little more complex than that.

My matches have been onesided since going into OW2. Very very rarely do I get an even comp.

Ranking based on performance is difficult as one person may have little to no stats, as they were just pushing point while the team were pressing ahead/farming.

What can manipulate the stats is where you get leavers in the matches etc. In theory they could bring in pauses to allow players to return to stop the opp team taking advantage, or null the result if they fail to return, ideally banning the leaver from competitive, and giving the loss only to the leavers group if they’re grouped to avoid abuse.

I get a leaver every other game at the minute.

But also the servers dropped twice on me yesterday and I got a 20 hour ban and support said it was my fault for leaving. So now I’m responsible for their server uptime as well it seems.

I stopped doing ranked and play solely QuickPlay Classic. The matchmaking there might be even worse but at least a loss isn’t a big deal.

On a side note; do any of you every check the amount of Attack vs. Defend rolls you get? I seem to get Defend 80% of the time (on maps that have it ofc.) and 20% Attack… Must be coincidence eh?
