Mei doesn't have a place in Overwatch 2

Buffing her primary fire damage was a blatent mistake.
It still does less DPS than her secondary fire and feels horrible to use and go against.
I get that freeze had to go and I’m absolutely not against that, but the current changes still reward that mindless hold M1 play-style that players still find frustrating to play into.

Worse still is the fact that your consistently out-damaged/on-par with Lucio’s and Moira’s, as a hero intended to do damage. Even as a player with 33% accuracy with her secondary, I might as well pick a different hero who has vastly more impact, even moreso in OW2 now that her original purpose of isolating targets is near obsolete.

The Dev team did a great job with her wall. It feels balanced especially in a 5v5 format, players just need to adapt to the fact it has 250hp per pillar. It still takes resources to deal with and doesn’t feel overly oppressive.

As the beta is currently, if Mei doesn’t have her wall/is getting good walls, she might as well not exist.
Once players learn that a full zen volly can break mei wall solo, that one faint niche she has remaining will vanish
She doesn’t align with any of the other DPS as their whole purpose is to do damage and the little damage she does output and the utility she provides isnt significant enough to make her worth playing over any other dps in a 5v5 scenario.

Switch her primary and secondary fires around or at least decrease her secondary fire windup time from 0.4s so she’s able to get more icicle shots off in the same amount of time.
She doesn’t need additional damage on her icicle as it would be like Ashe on release date all over again, but she need a quality of life buff to her damage output to make her viable as a damage dealer, otherwise she is purely a wall bot.

Make it so people aren’t encouraged to hold M1 and get rewarded for ultimately no skill at all, it doesn’t feel fun or rewarding to play with.

Yea she doesn’t feel like fits in right

I usually put mei in the deceivingly good character and it’s because you get a lot of mileage out of her as part of a team, however with OW2 being less team oriented and characters are not bunched up as much a lot gets lost in her power output in general.

especially in more disorganized teams and more “death matchy” sort of play.

sure mei’s freeze beam does less damage on a single target than other characters, but it’s not a single target weapon and actually have huge damage output potential depending how many people she hits at once with it, not to mention the wall and her ultimate have incredible implications in a teamfight.

but with that said, the OW2 premise of fights is a bit different so it might be necessary to change mei somewhat aswell.

i wouldn’t be surprised if they did and i wouldn’t be surprised if they let her be for a while forward until they can unequivocally say that she needs changes.

Yeah. Mei is very strong in OW2, but only in the right comps/strats.

If you can run a comp like London have been doing in OWL in your ranked games. Mei will get good value.

And it is a pretty easy comp to run with too, Rein, Soldier (might change on the new patch), Mei, Lucio, Moira. If you played a lot of rush on OW1, it should be pretty familiar.

She’s strong but her strength lies in an ability people don’t like to play against. I have absolutely no issues with her wall, cryo and ult. They work really well and just require some adaptations by the community.

The issue is that it doesn’t feel rewarding to play mei and hold M1, not in the slightest, and it’s even less fun to play against it. Yet using just M1 gets more value than having high skill with her icicles.

I don’t think anyone has ever complained about her icicles. They’re about as balanced as a weapon comes. 150 dmg headshot, can two shot if your skilled enough.

My idea is if you take away her primary’s damage and give some power to her secondary’s firing rate. It would increase her DPS but in a way people feel is warranted.
Something small like going from 0.8 shots/s to 0.4 shots/s (give or take). It would be just enough to make her viable as an individual hero and also rewards those who put the time into learning her skill-shot.

Maybe give back her primary’s utility, not the full freeze but a weaker, fading, slow after-effect like in OW1 so players can simulate the freeze into headshot combo, but allowing for counterplay by the enemy team.

Honestly if the Devs shift her main damage output from her primary to secondary, I think mei would be set for the rest of OW2.
