Mercy's GA nerf and rework

I stand by the fact that Mercy’s GA nerf was unnecessary or at least, too hard of a nerf.

Her rework got her some interesting new things like her 50% increased healing for allies in critical health, her new passive and the 20% backwards GA nerf, I understand all these changes and think they’re not too bad, however her GA cooldown itself was definitely not needed at all and should be reverted to 1.5s or at most 2s instead of 2.5s, sure the nerf about the cooldown is not too bad but it’s way too frustrating you can’t get to your allies and heal them as fast as possible or even fly away because you literally can’t defend yourself with her water gun pistol, I’m not saying she’s unplayable, I adapted to her but she’s just not fun anymore and she feels pretty boring to play now.

Plus don’t get me wrong, nobody was expecting or even wanted this nerf, everyone complained about her damage boost and yet they nerfed everything from her but that, they should remove her damage boost or change it or adjust it or whatever they can come up with and bring back her default GA cooldown, and I think pretty much a lot of mercy mains agree she feels slow, clunky and not as fun anymore, which is what made this hero feel good to play, her GA feels way too risky to pull now, because one wrong use of it can cost you to be an easy target with no way of defending yourself

I think they need to understand her movement is part of her kit and it’s basically how she is, it’s her character, it’s like if we nerfed Lucio’s movement or a part of his kit like his Amp It Up or his speed boost, it doesn’t make sense because that’s his character, and a good Lucio would be really annoying to kill just like Mercy who did not deserve that nerf.

(For people complaining that other characters were nerfed and Blizzard didn’t do anything about it like doom or genji, I don’t think they nerfed their movement, for Doom it’s different they had to retouch him a little because he’d get a hp increase and they had to nerf him over some aspect and they still need to rework him a little, however one of genji’s kit is his mobility, which hasn’t been touched, only his damage and ammo, imagine only his movement was nerfed, for example if his dash didn’t reset every kill, if there was a cooldown added to his double jump, or if they increased his dash cooldown or even slowed it down a little, he would feel slow, clunky, and not fun to play, just like Mercy is.)

Don’t get me wrong, Mercy wasn’t even that meta in the first place, she is just annoying to kill but she was meta with sojourn and still kinda is but the character itself is not that strong, she can barely defend herself and her only escape is her movement, she feels pretty mediocre compared to other supports like Ana, Lucio, Kiriko. Not many people want to play support but if they nerf the most fun support it’s definitely not gonna help at all. Hopefully someone from Blizzard can see this and reconsider her changes.

Here is what I would suggest (a bit inspired from other’s suggestions):
Mercy

  • Guardian Angel:
    ○ Cooldown decreased from 2.5 seconds to 2s
  • Caduceus Staff:
    ○ Healing per second increased from 45 to 50
    ○ Healing allies in critical health boost decreased from 50% to 25%
    ○ Damage boost decreased from 30% to 20%
  • Sympathetic Recovery:
    ○ Increased healing done heals mercy from 25% to 35% (but only 25% in valkyrie mode)

These changes are all suggestion and are not especially necessary but they could be interesting changes, what matters the most to me is the GA to be at least decreased to 2s if Blizzard doesn’t wanna revert it to 1.5s because that nerf was a bit too harsh imo

The GA nerf is a nerf to the pharmacy comp which appearently has a big impact in lower ranks. The GA nerf is a nerf to the sojourn/Ashe pocket combo since Mercy can be dived and killed more easely now. GA nerf makes mercy more difficult to play which causes a difference between bad mercy players and good mercy players as in this game should be about skills. If they would nerf the damage boost, you take the impactfullness away from playing mercy. Now they made it so a skillfull player who knows how to position, can still have very good results while still being counterable by dive comps. A less skillfull player who doesn’t know how to position, will not get as good results. I actually am starting to appreciate the rework they did. They thought this one through but 70% of the overwatch community doesn’t understands it.

I kinda agree as I said the changes aren’t that bad and requires more skill, it’s just the fun playing her being highly impacted and she’s more of a slow, clunky and most likely not very fun to play anymore, and I wish if they could only revert at least the GA cooldown, or just decrease it to 2s at most

I personally prefer balanced and clunky over unbalanced and smooth. Or even worse, balanced but less impactfull and very easy/boring (less rewarding) which is what your suggestions leans into the most. Now there is a bigger difference between a bad mercy and a good one while the good one will have an impact on the game. Current build leans a bit more into more impactfull & risk. i’m loving this healing boost below 50% but the healing nerf above 50% seems to have serious consequences.
