And why cant i see it in game? It sounds very important to us.

It’s a way to quantitify your skill level.

Ex:
Gold Players have a MMR between 300-600
Plat: 600-1000
etc…

This value is used to decide your teammates and opponents in your games.

Now thats a good question, why can’t we see that value? I guess it’s to make more easy for the game to manipulate your matches, by forcing you to win/lose when it finds usefull.
If you win too much you’ll have teammates with lower MMR and opponnents to higher MMR, if you loose to much it’s the opposite.

It is a number between -6 and +6. It is what the match maker uses to put you in lobbies

For the last few years, MMR has direct lined up with rank. So if your MMR is 0 you’ll be in gold 2. If it’s -6 you’re at the bottom of bronze 5.

So, it’s “hidden” but you have another rating that indirectly tells you what it is.

This article explains it a little more.

Thanks. Seems like a really dumb system.

Should just match people on their rank.

Technically they do.

Your MMR mirrors the progress of your rank. So on the -6 to +6 scale. I believe gold 2 is zero, so the middle of the road, average skill point.

So your being matched by ranks, just using another number.

Then why not make the mmr thing non secretive?

To a point. I agree. It’s unnecessary now.

But it’s not really secretive now. If you’re champ 1 your MMR is +6. If you’re Bronze 5 it’s -6. And you just go from there.

Honestly, if you have that number on your profile, you’d probably just confuse more people than you enlighten.

Look around the forums, you see most people really don’t get what match making is doing. Best not to confuse them more.
