Hello All! I hope someone can help me with this.
I’ve had Overwatch on console since launch but have been playing it on PC for about the last two months. Up until a few days ago, I was using an ordinary office mouse - the HP Wireless Comfort Mouse.
Despite not being a gaming mouse, it felt pretty ok to use accuracy wise. The only issues I had with it was it’s a bit small for my hand and it doesn’t have the additional buttons on the side.
I don’t have the funds at the moment to splash out on one of the latest gaming mice but managed to get hold of a Fnatic Gear Clutch G1. Which is quite nice but I have noticed that compared to the office mouse, tracking feels just a little off.
The problem is difficult to explain. It’s not quite lag but it feels just a tiny bit ‘floaty’ whereas the HP mouse feels sharp and crisp when aiming the cursor. It’s such a slight thing and not very obvious but as stated above, makes aiming and tracking feel just a little off.
I’ve installed the correct drivers, updated the firmware and messed around with the various in game sens and mouse DPI settings but can never get the Clutch to feel as good as the HP mouse which is weird as I know the Clutch sensor being a 3310 is meant to be superior to the HP one.
The Clutch is the first gaming mouse I’ve owned so would appreciate any thoughts on this. I doubt it’s an issue with the mouse itself as it seems fine in Windows etc.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that the Clutch is very specific with which surfaces it will work on. The HP mouse will work on nearly anything as long as it’s not glass or extremely shiny and I was using it on a counter top with a D-C Fix type vinyl covering just fine. The Clutch will not work on the same surface and while waiting for a large mouse mat to arrive, I’ve had to use an A4 IKEA furniture assembly manual (which is wrinkle free and very smooth). Are all gaming mice as finicky as to which surface they’ll work on?
I’m not sure I understand what you’re suffering from exactly but you really need a mousepad. Get an XL one you won’t regret it.

Make sure you install the proper drivers, set it to 1000hz, and max 800cpi to make sure it doesn’t start smoothing.

Yep, drivers are correct, and polling rate is 1000hz but the cpi is another issue!
The HP mouse I was used to does not have adjustable DPI (I’ve figured out it’s set to I think 1000) and I was using it with an in game sens of 14.00 which gives me an eDPI of 14000. That sounds high but seemed fine to me.
I’ve watched tons of videos on Overwatch in game sensitivities and mouse DPI and have tried the settings the ‘pros’ use with the Fnatic Clutch but find them wayyyyyy to slow.
I may be missing something but when I watch Overwatch League / World Cup. It just doesn’t look like the players are using, on average, a sens of around 4.00 and DPI of about 800.
If you aim with your wrist yeah, you are going to go up a bit, like 7-9 but with 800dpi should be enough if you have space to move.
Many people dont use same sens with Mcree and Genji for example, thats a different story.

Do you have mouse accelleration on somewhere in the settings?

No, mouse acceleration is off.
A quite common edpi is 4000. It feel very sluggish until you start doing whole-arm movements, but that’s habit.
Try disabling all the background stuff and see if that helps. Set the Overwatch process to high priority. If that’s not enough, bump the polling rate down to 500hz and see if it feels any better.
What’s your average frame rate?

Most regular office mice operate at about 800DPI with builtin acceleration (driver or hardware) at a low poll rate (like 125). This allows moving around the cursor on the windows desktop very comfortably with small wrist movements.
In contrast gaming mice don’t have (and they shouldn’t have!) acceleration. This is a slight change that is very uncomfortable at first (even on the windows desktop) but you’ll get used to it. The lack of acceleration can benefit your aim especially if you decide to improve you aiming skills with a lower mouse sensitivity.
If you want decent aim then you should try to get used to much lower values as soon as possible. I use 4000 eDPI but one can benefit from lower values when it comes to aiming with hitscan. With some heros (genji, tracer, winston, …) a bit higher sens can be beneficial (because of the need for quick turns). My 4000 eDPI is a compromise between those because I prefer using the same sens for all heros. Takes surprisingly little time to get used to lower mouse sens but you need a large mouse pad.
Mouse mats also have the benefit of absorbing your sweat if you play a lot.
