My Early Season 15 Impressions

Perks have been better implemented than I though, though the progression/earning needs some work. There was a Match where I played the Objective and I earned no perks… okay. Also, funny how they used, what used to be the old On-Fire Meter Position to display Perk Level… imo Perk Progression should interact more with the On-fire feature (maybe it does, idk). I just noticed that some heroes gain faster perk exp than others, if that’s by design, it’s fine.

Lootboxes, should’ve been kept out of the Battle Pass because you can purchase Battle Pass Ranks for real money, thus you can by Lootboxes for real money, thus it’s Gambling. I like the weekly reward of 3 Lootboxes, though compared to OW1’s Lootbox earning rate it’s just sad. Just bring back Portrait Border Account Level Progression, reward each Account Level with a Lootbox, make it so you ONLY can progress your Account Level by playing the Game and we should be Good. Overwatch 1’s Only Problem with Lootboxes was that you were able to purchase them with real money.

Perks do not fix 5v5, I cannot help but think how much fun it would be for a Tank Player to not be alone+ perks interacting on that level? that’s enticing.

A Blow to Swapperwatch, One Tricks rise. Perk Levels resetting disencourages swapping… well at least for me, but I usually don’t swap mid match because I believe in mastery and playerskill, though I wonder how they address that.

Breaking Concentration, when you gain a perk level mid match it can happen that you get distracted and lose the fight and even worse, the match. I wonder if they address it by maybe giving the Player the ability to set a roadmap pre match, so you only have to lvl up your perks and you’re good to go?

Limited Selectability of Perks, after you hit Perk Level 3, you’re done, no more any use for that display anymore and you’re stuck with the perks you selected, so why not unlocking resets for perks? instead of being stuck with Perk Level 3, like progressing through the Perk Leveling System you unlock resets to swap selected perks, I’ll explain it with the following scenario:

Winston selected the Rocket Jump Perk but the Enemy Team has a Torb, Symm, Illari.
Now the Winston thinks, the Turret Buster Perk would’ve been better. So the Winston gains a Perk Reset swaps the Rocket Jump Perk with the Turret Buster Perk and counterplays them like that.

Being stuck with Perks that don’t play along with your playstyle or even worse, fatfingering the wrong perk out of accident sucks! So addressing that would be benefitial.

All in all, Season 15 is not as bad as I thought. But the main issues remain.
Is it just me, or did they change some Display Designs so it looks more like Overwatch 1?
I swear, the main menu and the Round Display look kinda like how it was in Overwatch 1.

I completely agree about swapping perks. I don’t like the system to begin with but it’s crazy to me that you can’t swap your perks over in spawn. Especially given that it seems like something heroes perks counter other heroes perks. I really hope that th 6v6 modes don’t have perks going forward as they’re not a system that is going to work well it that mode.

Considering there’s only three lootboxes in the battlepass and they’re all legendary I don’t think this is much of an issue since the legendary lootboxes drop rates garentee you a legendary skin.

If there was more of them ore they were all normal lootboxes then yeah sure, I think it’d be far more of an issue.

I’d be fine with perks if it was more liberal with the choices you make instead if locking you in to the chosen perks. It adds another point of mistake which normally in Overwatch was kind of a quick one, like accidently shooting the wrong target or taking the wrong angle/ standing in the open or stuff like that, you know stuff you learn from not to repeat. Perks on the otherhand can be situational, thus putting you on a disadventage when you can’t play into the situation to trigger the perk. One of My Examples would be Mauga’s Two-Heart Perk… but the Mauga can’t get to the Payload… well

So yeah I kinda feel like the honeymoon period of Perks for me is over. They add to the frustration and I gonna wait for 6v6 Ranked…

Thinking a bit more about Perks… they feel like a Perfect Fit for PvE, it you ask me.

And Lootboxes, it doesn’t matter. Aslong as Lootboxes can interact with real money, it’s Gambling. But that they also added the option to grind for 3 lootboxes per week is kinda funny. Sadly they reintroduced an old issue AGAIN!
Because that Post-Match Progression Screen is broken AGAIN!
They should make it so actively Progressed Goal should be displayed how it was with weeklies and dailies AGAIN!
Currently it only shows the Lootbox Progression, even when it’s already completed…
But yeah, they should disconnect Lootboxes from the Battle Pass and we’re Good.
I mean Overwatch 1 had it so you got a Lootbox rewarded for an Account Level Up. That was 20k EXP for a Lootbox and OW2 has so much more (inaccessable) Content, that Lootboxes are justifiable.

I can see this coming at some point honestly. Maybe when in spawn you can change it…

But then on some heroes, there really isn’t a choice. Ball as an example.

Thinking about it, they should get rid of the levelling system for perks and just let us select them from the spawn.

Since as it is now, Perk Level Ups can happen mid fight and create a distraction, that lead to unnecessary deaths.

I’d be curious to see what chaos that causes.

I didn’t realise till the other night it does that in over time. Had a very odd OT on Rialto because of that.

Yeah, have seen that happen. I think that’s more a player discipline thing. Just because you unlock it, doesn’t mean you have to apply it right there and then. Or, learn to do it on muscle memory.

For me, playing ball, I’m only ever using 1 option from each so it’s no issue.

I guess if it because problematic, you change it to only. allow players to select it in spawn … But I don’t think that’ll be popular.

I respectfully disagree there, selecting a Perk as we currently do is a kind of Menu Management and shouldn’t be part of Muscle Memory, unless you’re a Speedrunner going for World Record, but that’s not what Overwatch is^^

  • Perks undoubtly impact Matches and them popping up mid fight can just turn the tides with a tendency of ignoring Player Skill

I’m fine with the aspect of Perks being an Impactful Power-fantasy of the heroes but the lvling system and locking you in on the Perks is just so clunky.

Me, as Mauga also which makes the selecting part even more annoying tbh xD
I mean, why select stuff if you run with the same set all the time anyway.

I would be fine with that, I mean we also can swap characters in spawn, why not perks aswell?^^ I’d be more okay with Perk Swapping than Counterswapping^^

Another thing about Perks, if you get steamrolled it can happen that you don’t even get to select any perks… so… yeah :confused:

I’ve only played it in open queue so far, and it’s totally ended counter swapping. Not one single person has tried to counter me on Ball.

Before that would happen at least every other game. A swap to Hog or a rage swap to sombra.

But Balls minor perk of more damage to tanks on roll through is ridiculous in open queue. 100% more damage and more ult charge running through 3+ tanks. Thank you very much.

The major of slam is ok, but not that much use. I’d prefer is the second major perk was a boop upgrade so at least there was a choice between them. Shields is pointless.
