I know that those who usually claim that their accounts have been penalized by mistake and not for being toxic are often lying, but in this case, I believe it’s true. I’m not someone who gets particularly upset while playing. When I feel that someone in the game is performing especially poorly, I usually don’t say anything, and if I do, it’s in a neutral or slightly aggressive tone without insults.
So, why have I been silenced? Since Overwatch doesn’t provide a record of the reported messages (which I think is an oversight), I can only speculate, and here is the reason I believe I’ve been reported so much:
I like to say “uwu” at the end of messages and use “furry slang,” which I find amusing. At the beginning of games, I often say things like “gl hf uwu,” and at the end, “that was so fun >w< tnx for the game >////<” also I accompany my messages with an “owo.” This tends to trigger some toxicity from people, and I respond to that with “owo d-d-don’t be so toxic or I’ll get aroused >////<.” I understand that this behavior may come off as cringy, but it can’t be classified as toxic. In this case, the one who is fraudulently using the reporting system is the one being toxic in that match.
I’ve submitted a ticket regarding this, asking for at least the record of reported messages, but Blizzard’s customer support is terrible, and they sent me a generic copy-paste response saying that I am responsible for my account’s behavior. I’m not asking for the penalty to be lifted; I just want to see the report record to check if my theory is true (in which case, Blizzard should take some action, either by adding an option to report someone for being cringy or finding a way to distinguish between fraudulent and legitimate reports).
That’s the worst thing i’ve ever said, and i wanted to mention it for transparency’s sake, but usually i cut the phrase and say “owo d-d-dont be so toxic >w<” cause is quicker to write, so i can get back to playing the game. I also tend to forget how to write that word cause im not a native english speaker so i usually avoid it. I don’t recall saying that in quite a long time.
Even then, that’s not that bad of a word to warrant a silence, moreover when i’m saying that in response to actual toxic behavior.
Whenever you see toxic behaviour it’s better to report it. Because the toxic people will report you back if you engage.
I can understand why the emojis would annoy someone, but that’s a silly thing to get reported for.
It could very well be that people were annoyed enough by the text emojis to report you, so cutting those down to only one per message might help in the future.
But adding emojis to my messages is not toxic behaviour, i like them and to my knolage they aren’t aganist terms of service and its not like im spamming them
If that’s the case i want them to give me the report record, cause otherwise idk why did they silence me, i dont care about being silenced, i just want to know why
Typing emojis isn’t being annoying; I’m not spamming them. I just use them whenever I want to express certain emotions. If someone gets annoyed by an emoji, it’s not my problem. Also, if they don’t provide the report record to the players who get punished, how do they expect them to change their behavior?
If you get silenced, it’s because of something you said or wrote.
People can report anything you say and it isn’t neccassarily for toxicity.
You can be reported for spamming stuff (like emojis)
My advice is to stick to one emoji per message, since two different ones per message can get confusing and chaotic.
For example,
“that was so fun >w< tnx for the game >////<”
That’s two different emotions there and i would have no idea to read this in an instant.
I’d stick to “that was so fun, thx for the game >w<”
There’s no need to be flustered/blushing there when you can just be happy/mischievous.
The only people who think the report system is being abused are those who have been punished and are completely unable to be self reflective and take personal responsibility for their behaviour.
No one’s ever given an actual example of an incorrect punishment for behavioural things.
This is fairly true. But little or small, it isn’t wrong.
This totally unproven and almost certainly a myth.
If you’ve got the proof, I’d happily change my mind if you provide it.
There is proof of false flagging above (flagging a post that simply explains what is happening is abuse of the system). But it is what it is. It is clear someones up to something.
Nice try with the reports, but my comment got restored (shock, don’t even deny it ). This is proof of false reports / flagging. It happens in-game as well, which is factual.
