I might just be salty, but who in their right mind would think a randomized hero, free for all would be enjoyable for anyone but the lucky people.
Overwatch is a hero based shooter meaning the skill cap of this game is higher than probably any other game, but to put a skilled game in the hand of rng is not acceptable.
Spawning in this gamemode with a hero like mercy, unable to heal, unable to fly and only able to use her shooter, vs a genji main spawning in on genji makes absolutely no sense, not only that, its free for all, making it even more frustrating if more people have the rng on their side, in my mind this gamemode is not acceptable just wanted to share.
Many people shared this opinion but that’s the point. It’s an opinion. If you don’t like the gamemode, don’t play it.
I don’t think that overwatch is that high up the skill ladder. I have the feeling that most mobas and rts games rank above overwatch pretty much by default already much less games that are considered skill intensive like quake.
Yes, and blizzard really likes when people just stop playing their games without any feedback as to why.
/Sarcasm off
No, they definetly love to get spit on over a mode they can’t change.
/Sarcasm off
RNG based gamemodes have a fixed rule: No tampering on RNG. Criticising an RNG based gamemode for being RNG is like criticising a red tomato for being a tomato. It points out information which were already obvious. They won’t change it because there are still players who like the mode, just like how people like mystery heroes.
Many other players already point that out and there is nothing you can change about it. The only thing you can do is to avoid it if you don’t like it.
You’re essentially saying; “just quit the game and don’t tell them why.”
I don’t know why you think anyone is spitting on blizzard when they make a forum post like this. That’s not true at all. He is a player who likes the game, and from his perspective it could use improvements, and he states what the improvements could be.
He doesn’t like RNG (neither do I for OW) and he wants normal DM.
That seems completely reasonable to me. The answer “just don’t play it” is not good enough. It’s superficial and ignorant and does not take into concern the issues at all.
The whole point is that they remove the alternative, not that they bring up the mystery DM. I couldn’t care less about the mystery DM button, if I also had a normal DM button.
Complaining serves a purpose, it’s the way companies and customers communicate, if it isn’t with the wallet mind you.
Usually companies would rather know what they do bad, than what they do good. It’s a pretty basic human phenomena really.
Not saying they don’t want to also have good feedback of course, who doesn’t want that.
The more players who point out the issue, the bigger chance of blizzard catching notice. So of course he should point it out, even if 1000s already have. It’s basically a democracy where the company has to follow what the majority wants, if they want to earn money.
There is no need for complaining if there is nothing to complain about…
We are talking about arcade. A gamemode that rotates every day and week. This time, this mode has been selected and, next time, another mode will be selected. There is nothing else here.
If you want to complain, then complain about something that stick forever in the game like hero balancing or essential gamemode issues. However, complaining about the core concept of a gamemode that rotates anyways won’t help them any further.
If people want DM so badly, then it will be noticable in the statistics. Currently, Mystery heroes is the most liked gamemode, which is why it got a permanent place on the Arcade menu.
My point is the following: The OTP complained about something others already did and the answer was always the same. Don’t play it if you don’t like it. Just wait until a gamemode you like is back in the pool.
I think the main message here is rather than replacing normal DM with Mystery DM, they should have left DM available for those that don’t like the mystery element. I am sure they can expand the number of modes as they see fit.
Maybe a system just puts in a random mode each rotation. It seems the cheapest and most efficient approach to me.
What I mean is that they could add another permanent slot. I reckon that DM is pretty popular.
Possibly, though it would require a graphic designer and tech artist to change the layout which would cost resources. If it really was worth the price, they would do it already.
Though I’m really interested on which gamemodes are the most popular ones.
Don’t get me wrong, I get that companies strive to make money, but the cost to get this done would be negligible . And if you think about how many people it would please, the cost becomes even less of an issue.
Hey, I actually found a poll by blizzard regarding the most popular gamemode.
Right now, with 7877 votes, Mystery heroes is the most popular gamemode (22%), followed by total mayhem (15%) a FFA DM (11%).
If they add a new permament gamemode, it would be total mayhem.
You’re lying.
We are discussing Mystery DM. Mystery heroes are not even a topic of this discussion.
That poll shows that 30% want to play normal FFA modes and mystery DM is not even on the poll, that’s how unpopular it is.
If anything, they should be expanding the DM modes, that’s obviously where most players spent their time, looking at the poll you present.
Where exactly did I lie?
My argument:
My evidence:
Now tell me where the lie is. Or were you attacking a strawman?
You are not presenting the right numbers, that’s the lie.
There are 30% of players voting for NON-mystery DM.
That’s way above the 11% you present, therefore the lie.
So, these are the numbers. Again, the question is which mode (singular) would be the next permanent game mode. All we need to do is look up which game mode (singular) is the second most popular gamemode (singular) and it is total Mayhem.
What you say is true, the DM modes combined are the most popular gamemodes. However, it doesn’t mean anything in this argument because the question is which mode (singular) should be permanent, too.
Sorry, I’m not lying. You are just attacking a strawman.
The thing is…
We are talking about NON-mystery DM, that includes all modes of non-mystery DM, of which there are 3.
Team DM
FFA DM
Chateu DM
Those modes make all the non-mystery DM modes on the poll.
If the poll had asked with the question “non-mystery DM” instead of asking 3 singular ones, it would’ve been 30%.
That’s the excact topic of this debate.
Which means, that 30% of the voters, voted for a DM mode, that is NOT mystery.
Sure you are right, if you only consider FFA DM as a non-mystery mode. But that’s just not for this debate. We are talking about basically having ANY non-mystery DM mode available.
So best case, you don’t understand the topic of debate or the way of statistics, worst case, you are willfully misrepresenting your evidence in a way that makes you seem right.
Either way, your argument, which is more of a theory, is not relevant to this discussion.
You are attacking a strawman again…
My argument was never that “non-mystery DM isn’t the most popular gamemode”. My argument was this:
And how did this argument even came up?
It has been asked whether you could add another permanent game mode but it was begging the question. That argument came from the assumption that DM is so popular, it would be the next permanent game mode. However, the argument was provided in a vague manner because there are multiple DM-Gamemodes but the criteria for a permanent game mode is that the game mode alone is the most popular mode out of all.
It was relevant to this discussion. You just didn’t understand how that argument came into being.
Then I am misunderstanding you.
What I am talking about, is having any type, any kind of non-mystery DM, both team and ffa, as long as I can choose my hero.
That means, that all 3 DM modes in the poll, which adds up to 30%, encompass the same category - non-mystery DM.
Which means that if 30% of players want a non-mystery DM, and blizzard does not provide it, 30% of players will not be playing what they prefer. That’s the fundamental issue, as I see it.
