hello loves,
ive just bought overwatch after watching tons of streams and videos and all the short movies and i love it a lot! i have only played vs the ki in a game with bots, on the various skill levels of the bots and i find myself struggling sometimes haha.
so ive played widowmaker and tracer so far because i like their character style a lot? and ive a few questions
-
how much damage does the tracer ult do? i have seen it killing lucios but roadhog survives so is there like an overview somewhere of which ability does what amount of dmg? sry for the dumb question
-
is there any trick to get the tracer ult stuck on enemies? i find it extremely difficult
and i almost never hit it just when the enemies are frozen by mei or they are big like roadhog haha. maybe i just suck XD
-
when should i start playing quickplay? or with others? im extremely shy and i dont wanna be a burden and when i see i die vs bots i feel like…its probably a bad idea to play quickplay? because who will want a teammate that dies against bots !! aah. is there any rule? i know ppl play ranked with lvl 25 so yeah is there a qp rule?
-

Hey there! Welcome to the community!
Here are some answers.

It does 300 dmg I think.

Flanking is the key. Try using it on characters with big hitboxes (like tanks.) and you’ll probably get some kills. Also, a tip is to activate the bomb and blink immediately to catch enemies off-guard.

You should play Quick right away! It’s better to start off with real people. You will get better buy playing it. And playing Comp on lvl 25 is too low. Try reaching lvl 30-ish and give it a shot.

Try playing mercy. She’s one of the easiest characters to play. And also, Soldier 76 is good for beginners.
I hope this helps out!
Bookmarking this could be helpful as you can just click on the bookmark and select a hero if you need information about them:

Nope. It’s just relatively hard to land and requires a good amount of experience to be consistent with
Dying against bots isn’t that hard if you’re not cheesing them and your teammates are relatively new to the game too. You can pick up QP as soon as you want because the matchmaking system uses a MatchMaking Rating (MMR) to match you with other players and if you have no MMR then the system will find other players with no MMR to play with you to keep games balanced no matter what. If you start losing then it’ll put you in an easier environment and if you start winning it’ll look at your performance and match you with better players depending on that. In other words you don’t have to worry about balance and beginners aren’t really toxic
Genji is another popular flanker. If you prefer a hit-scan then Sombra is kinda similar but more stable and defensive. Soldier 76 is another hero I would recommend
If you are super new then I’d highly recommend custom games too where both your team mates and your enemies are bots. When I started I played a lot of cooperative “Training / Practice VS AI” matches where my team mates were humans. My problem as a beginner was that my team mates usually hunted down everything and there was nothing left for me.
This is less of a problem when your team mates are also AIs with the same difficulty as your enemies. When you get better you can put in stronger AIs into your custom games. When you get even better you can start playing against hard enemies but weaker AIs on your side. The AI is OW is quite basic, but still very good for a lot of different kinds of training especially for a beginner!
You can create custom games with the “Play / Game Browser / +CREATE” button. Then just add a few AIs with the desired difficulties and heros (it can be changed per AI player) and press Start. You can also start the game without adding any AIs if all you want is simply exploring maps. If you want to play without other humans then don’t forget to set the “everyone / friends only / invite only” option to “invite only”. There are a lot of settings that you can change, like setting the cooldown of hero abilities to zero if you need that for practising or quicker navigation when exploring the maps. (I like quickly exploring maps by setting the cooldown of genji dash to zero and flying around with non-stop dashing.) You can setup a different map rotation (e.g.: rotating only one map if you want to explore one specific map) and so on. Don’t be afraid to create these games, you don’t do any harm with them! I wish I knew about this when I started playing.
In a close fight, aim more to the ground than in the sky to place/thrown your bomb. And do it while you’re huggin the enemy.
This made me stick like twice as much bombs.
Other heroes… Maybe sombra but keeping in mind sombra uses E ability before the engagement.
Just make a team that know you’re learning and wont mind that, you can find people here on the forums to play with you.
Welcome to the game
I would say definitely play QP, Don’t feel bad, Tracer and Widow are tough characters to play and we all start somewhere. Genji is kinda similar to Tracer as is Sombra but they have been suggested, Maybe try Reaper as he is close combat and can Wraith away if you are in trouble.
There’s one trick that’s a little more advanced, using an animation cancel, but it’s probably not a good idea to flood you with stuff
Immediately. Playing vs bots isn’t real practice and everyone will be on your level.
I guess other flankers?
Genji, Sombra. Or even Wrecking Ball
hello loves thanks so much for your helpful tips!
so far ive been playing a lot of custom games as tron recommended with ai on my side too and slowly raising their difficulty. its really helpful to explore the maps (there are a LOT) and is fun. then i tried mystery heroes to just play…everyone or at least have a look at it but i think i failed miserably. even though it brought reaper to my attention who is really fun!
i think ill look for a group here on the forum after getting a little more familiar with the maps. thanks so much for being so nice!
i appreciate it <3
have a great day everyone!
Playing against humans never hurts. OW is essentially a PvP game. However good AI can help in developing in a lot of aspects of the game more quickly.
The problem with AIs (and actually the thing PvP haters like in AIs) is usually predictable strategy but mechanically they are easy to make good and human-like with adjustable difficulty. In my opinion they are perfectly suitable for certain things like aim-practising with widow or spawning small-headed heros in headshot only mode for mccree aim-train.
The good thing about AIs and custom games with custom settings is that certain situations can be recreated repeatedly in quick successions (without the stress of others calling you a “noob” or something similar) while in real games you would face that situation once in a while rarely.
The AI in OW is rather basic if we compare it to something like StarCraft’s AI which is quite good at preparing humans for PvP from many aspects - the mechanical part, economy, etc become second nature for those players and they can focus on more important high level strategy in PvP. In the future I’d really like to see a significantly improved/smarter OW AI - it would have several different use cases.
I can recommend sombra in the reflection to tracer as you someway go also in, get a kill, get back out, only with sombra you need to prepare your escape first. With tracer you use recall or directly blink away.
I often forget that damn translocator and throw it mid fight in the battlefield expecting to get directly away as with tracer. Until I see her actually throwing it instead of teleporting…
Doomfist can be quite similar with the combo (seismic slam IN, uppercut your target in the air, left klick it to death, rocketpunch back to your team)
Heavy action and important cooldowns similar to tracer, but sometimes more forgiving in aim as you can still one shot a squishy with rocketpunch. If the punsh doesn’t kill you.
Your ult is usefull to prevent dying and be more aggressive, but can also be a playmaker.
Hope you have fun and enjoy the game.
