If you’re so surprised to find that Soldier 76 had a romantic relationship that didn’t end on the best of terms wait till you hear this. Soldier 76 was trained to use weapons. He’s also killed people in combat. And he’s even taken a dump in a hole in the ground. That’s right: Soldier 76 is in fact an old soldier who has lived the life of an old soldier.
Oh, is there something special in there? Something interesting about some aspect of the things I’ve mentioned? Something different? Some reason he should be treated different? Have these revelations changed the way you think of Soldier 76? Will you play him different, or demand that Blizzard change thing about him based on these things? Do you consider any of these events more or less important then they might have been if something about them had been different?
Ngl idk why it’s going into LGBT and stuff for different characters, I mean it’s Overwatch is like saying just be yourself and stuff, but I don’t really care about the sexuality of the hero it’s just unimportant to me, just their basic back story is enough.
Hmm, something’s odd about his story… he was trained to be a soldier, had a bo-
Oh… OH GOD! This is- I can’t even say it… Ugh… I think I need to-

Soldier 76 is still Soldier 76. Doesn’t matter whether they made him gay or not.
He still has all the same abilities, skins, voicelines etc. I honestly, can’t understand why there is even a discussion about it. Soldier 76 being gay doesn’t change anything.

i dont understand why we need to know sexual preferences of any of the characters in this game? what benefit does it bring to the game? not that there is anything wrong with being gay.
We don’t know his preference, specifically. he might be gay. He might be bi. This, however, is lore. And lore is always welcome.

Michael Chu confirmed that soldier 76 is gay not bi. Also for me personally i can’t see 76 in the same light anymore. Now i see: politics and memes.
It’s not like they turned his assault rifle into a sex toy. He plays the same. He acts the same.
This is the effect of bias. When you have a negative bias towads politics in games, you will dislike something more because your subconscious tells you to avoid it. All thanks to frigging media and exposure.
It infuriates me that media has made such a drama to grab some cash out of the customer, especially gen Z. Blizzard wanted to make sexuality normal by mentioning it in the most indirect way but the oh so “progressive” news put a spotlight on something that should be considered uninteresting.
Blizzard isn’t pandering, media is. They want the money, Blizzard (specifically, the lore team) wants the normality.
