Its not check mate by any means if someone wants to purposely ruin the games for lower tier players. This is only to prevent those smurfs that want to play a new hero and not ruin games for lower tiers. By linking accounts through a verification process, they can start playing their initial placement games at a higher tier. So to speak itâs a shortcut for a smurf player to the higher tiers just by linking accounts by verification. Thatâs were most smurfs are located todayâŠ

Ok so if Iâm in gold and my friend is in masters and I link my account to his phone (which is doable) I would get a free ticket to masters then ruin games for other players on my way back to gold or plat?
Well linking your account to your friends account also gives him the opportunity to reset your password if he so chooses. And yet again remember linking a brand new account only means your placements would start at a higher tier, that doesnât mean youâll stay their if you donât deserve to be there. Youâll drop back to your original spot after the placements. However there is a huge catch to all this.
This whole bumping your position to masters only happens if your accounts a brand new one on which you havenât done any placements or comp before. It works for the first time, after which the next seasons this bumping stuff wont work. So if you have an existing OW account you have already been playing comp on, linking doesnât change anything about it.

Yes this feature would be a boosters paradise, as itâs easier to boost linked accounts.
Had a similar suggestion a few months ago about using phone numbers on a topic that complained about smurfs and as i said back then itâs what Valve did with DOTA 2 ranked matches to deal with the smurfs

I do think that there are apps that can be downloaded that can simulate a phone, as well as âcreatingâ a phone number to be used, then you can easily link your account. Although it would take longer, and could possibly help reduce the number of smurfs, it can be bypassed.
No, a phone has to be part of the network. And if anyone builds an app that can tap into the network, they use certain standards of ID collection. There arenât any apps, that tap into the SMS networks without it. Also bare in mind if a third party company needs to receive SMS they need hardware infrastructure in place to receive them (Cell Towers), or would need to tap into a service providers infrastructure. Hence anything thatâs part of the network are always controlled by the service providers (Vodafone, Orange, Virgin etc⊠based on where you live)
It just comes down to when Blizzard gets the time to work on this, based on priorities. At the moment they have so many other higher priorities to sort out. Valve has been behind Dota for 10 years, so yeah they had the luxury of time, to perfect every little corner of their software. The Overwatch team is comparatively still young, and have higher pressing issues to nail before this one.

You canât wash it out not calling Smurfing a non-issue. When every other game have implemented counters in place to reduce Smurfing. Riot Games, Valve arenât stupid, to spend time on building similar systems for nothing.
OW, has already had multiple cries from the community about the Smurfing issue.
Personally, being the owner of multiple smurfs, this isnât fair to the millions that have brought smurfs nor will it ever happen. Firstly it deters people from buying smurfs and so many people are buying them, why would blizzard want to get rid of a large source of their sales by deterring them with this. Secondly as arceus said earlier, it shouldnât be an expectation for you to own a phone. Just because most teenagers have one or parents have one there are still many who donât. I know many old and new friends whoâs parents would not give them any kind of leeway with their phone number.
The alternate method that you have come up with, unfortunately, would not work. Emails are too easy to create. If you need a new phone to download it on, there are plenty of virtual machines online you can download and use for phone apps (e.g BlueStacks).
Additionally to this, many people buy smurfs to practise new hero pools. I for instance brought a smurf i got placed bronze while tryharding on support, i am a GM tank main. If i were to be placed a rank below my main (masters) that would be too much and i would be throwing games.
Unfortunately smurfing is here to stay, as the other guy said (while irritating) to âgit gudâ is your only way around this problem, if everyone else can rank up around smurfs than everyone who cries about it should be able to aswell.
The proposal doesnât discourage Smurfing, it just places them at a higher elo, instead of the super low ones.

I have 5 accounts, and I play at high masters on my primary ones. My intentions werenât to have fun with the lower tiers when creating new accounts. All I wanted to do, is learn a new hero and get good at it, and often having to play through Bronze / Silver was a waste of my time, as it was easy owning the players at that elo. Even with a new hero, a high-level player is not going to have any decent competition at these lower elos. If a system like this existed, I could just avoid the lower elos altogether.
While it wasnât my intention to give the lower elos a hard time, the current system design forces me to.
It does discourage smurfing, many people buy their smurfs to get placed low to practice their heroes and just enjoy themselves in lower matches (![:angry:](https://d1kzxbyyijk9k6.cloudfront.net/en/overwatch/images/emoji/twitter/angry.png?v=6" ":angry:")
). Removing this guarantee and making it so you get placed extremely similar to your normal Sr would pretty much eliminate most sales unless you are making it for the sole purpose of resetting your MMR, which even then hasnât been done due to the auto rank that it gave you.
Well a smurf, is a high level player. And No high level player unless he wants to create an entertaining stream would want to farm Bronze / Silver players.
And in case thatâs the intention, you can always link your account to another mobile number.
Blizzard can work out how close to your original SR you start playing at. If youâre say GM, you could start your placements around high diamond - masters.
@ketakubaner - - well smurfs are a big issue and here is why based on your comment from the past no matchmaking etc etc , in this day and age there is matchmaking and blizzards super secretive mmr formula and sr points , also theu advertised the game as fun for all , all levels of player no matter how good or how bad if youve never ever played a fps before because hey guess what â they had placement matches to determine each seperate players skill level to be placed in tiers with other people of the same or similar skill level , that is how the game was advertised to the public , so someone buying it never before played anything like this obviously knowing they wont be good at first but will still get good matches for their skill cap/level , further on the smurfs come to town making alt accounts just to practice , these players are high high level players that deliberately stay in low tier on alt accounts and they wreck the game for genuine low players as the op said getting wrecked every day match after match is definatelly not fun in any way and thatâs not the idea i expected buying the game on the hype and advertisement of it .

you should be banned plain and simple , the game was advertised for players of all different skill levels to enjoy and have fun , not get wrecked match after match by people like you that also have more money than sense and obviously no life , " the git gud " phrase is typical of a noob in his bedroom , nothing to do with git gud , thats like telling a set of non league footballers to stop moaning and get gud if they want to play in the premiership , its never going to happen for lots of reasons but again obviously you dont understand this and all you want to do is protect your precious main acct and standing in a game to wreck other peoples fun .

Did you read anything I said? I said I got placed in bronze WHILE tryharding, I didnât want to be down there. Git gud is a perfectly fair statement. if see a non pro footballer complaining about how they cant do something they need to git gud if they ever want to reach pro players levels. Every single person has the ability to reach the pro leagues. Anyone can do it, it is just the amount of practice you put in. I start as a console bronze scrub, now a GM Pc player, with a widow account in high master.
Believe me, I understand the struggle with smurfing. I have slogged through rank after rank to find smurfs and more smurfs. you have to percivere. Like you said players of âall skill levels to enjoy and have funâ fun fact: smurfs are involved in that everyone.

Where have I said anywhere that I have gone down to lower ranks on purpose to âwreckâ people lower than me? I have practiced different roles in lower ranks thatâs all. Here is a tip to deal with smurfs. Get Better, practice and then improve on your mistakes. Whats the most common type of smurf to deal with, tracer? learn to McCree/Brigitte.
Tell me, can you list those reasons that that footballer which you are talking about cannot make it to the premier league? I see no reason why he cant.
Last time I checked the only person here trying to ruin peoples fun is you. No matter which way you put it, these people have brought these second accounts. Deal with it. They are not going away nor are they going to get banned for smurfing.
