500,000 players banned from Overwatch for cheating? And we have 10 million active players? Really Blizzard? I’m seriously not convinced this number was real to begin with, the fact there’s no ACTUAL number just a rounded one, it would make more sense if there was an ACTUAL number rather than one you may have picked out of the hat and decided to celebrate about.
And to be honest, 500,000 out of 10 million is a troubling amount considering, people still complaining about cheaters and the influx of cheaters since they brought this up in their blog.
What do you guys think? This is just my opinion.
Those numbers are in the right ball park. Active players is probably nearer 8m (about 23m active accounts)
500,000 banned since OW2 started I believe was the report + 40,000 for stacking with cheaters.
It’s a never ending fight, those numbers will constantly go up. Their anti cheat works, it just isn’t as “proactive” as some games. They seem to prefer to try not tipping off cheat creators, and going after them via the appropriate legal channels.
Personally, I prefer that option, as the only was to win this fight is to make it so these businesses can’t afford to operate.
Cheating is probably the single biggest issue the game will have. Either dealing with the cheaters, or dealing with the PR side of it. I think OW struggles more with the later. There’s a perception that there are far more cheaters than their probably are.
There’s one specific poster on here who claims 80% players are cheating… So the false accusations and lies from some players are just as big an issue.
Think about it this way. 500,000 works out at about 2% of active accounts.
If I told you you’d see a cheater every 20-30 games… That feels about right.
What would change saying 500.000 or 523.951 players?
Even if they banned 1M players or 2M it wouldn’t solve anything, those players can simply create a new account. They announced also they’re working in a new anti cheat system, let’s hope it can be efficient and reduce the percentage of cheaters…
Oh yeah, 500 thousand banned for cheating. It seems to work wonders.
As evidenced by your comment. Many were banned.
it is not working. 500k out of 100 million? YEAH RIGHT.
cheater in every single game ( PC not console) yet they banned less than 0.5% ROFL.
They profit from cheaters and cheating, lack of fighting vs cheaters just proves that.
EU on PC is literally aimbot vs aimbot , stacked cheater premades 4-5 people. And they are not being banned.
Cheaterwatch2. There is no anti cheat system working in overwatch2.
As per other thread… Here is misinformation and false accusations that need to stop.
100mill accounts, is the total created in the last 8 years.
500k players (+ another 40k hanger ons) is since OW2. The amount of accounts banned is around 2.1%.
This isn’t even a logical statement.
Again, this is hyperbolic misinformation. Seems to be nothing but trying create issues.
Again, this is false information.
There’s no such thing as an anti-cheat system in OW2. The last time I had a match cancelled due to cheats being detected was in Overwatch 1. In OW2, you can aimbot freely, and even getting reports from entire teams of players will avail you nothing, since I have seen a total of 0 “Thank you for reporting” warnings on my screen due to cheaters since the release of OW2. But if I report someone for saying a nasty word, I will get warnings the NEXT DAY.
Sad state for a game to be in.
There is, I had a game cancelled last week. It’s not as aggressive as some games, which seems to be their intention. For better or worse.
Can you provide proof of this?
I can. But I won’t give you the name of my main account.
You “can” but choose not to, ok. Another account? Cool.
Correct, as I don’t want you and your gang knowing my main account.
Another account as in my 8 year old main account that’s never been on here. Yes.
Would love to see this proof also…
As part of said gang. I won’t be providing any details of my main account. So, you’re out of luck.
Didn’t want this post to be toxic, just wanted to know other peoples opinions on the matter.
I’m not looking for a “whats the real answer”.
Just having different experiences compared to mine either puts me at ease or not and I may not be the only one experiencing it.
No need for anyone to be “smart asses” about it either.
But thanks for everyones input I suppose.
Sadly, it just what some people do. So sorry for bringing them to the table.
Cheating will forever be a big issue for PvP games. But the way ow deals with it is probably the right way. Try just need to be a lot quicker than I react.
There was a glitch some cheaters used with torb to lag the server. The fact they let that carry on for nearly 2 months and not disabled torb in that time was sad to see.
Same. Unfortunately you’re always going to get that one certain person to do it on every thread. Best to ignore.
I agree with your opinion. It’s like they pulled a random rounded number out instead of a specific one. There’s probably a lot more cheaters. Smurfs and cheaters on a high rise, which ruins the experience and fun for people playing against them. Needs to be stopped!
That’s not the reason, and here’s why.
Cheat creators pay for leaked codes, and it doesn’t matter if they do ban waves with 12 months in between or live bans. They’ll still get codes leaked to them by insiders.
Some employees even develop cheats themselves and sell them.
No matter if they do live bans or ban waves, they’ll always be one step ahead, until the dev studios themselves manage to catch the people leaking the update codes.
Some anti cheat devs also have insiders leaking codes to make money on the side. This has been an issue for as long as there’s been online games.
They’ll always afford it, because of what i mentioned above.
It’s not a perception when all you have to do is look on youtube and search for OW2 cheats or just look at all the cheater vods streamers do on a regular basis.
80% isn’t accurate but it’s not far fetched to believe that there’s at least 25-35% cheaters if not more, and the reason is that the game is F2P, which is literally and have always been an open invitation to cheaters, regardless of the genre of the game.
F2P will always have far more cheaters than Buy to Play games, because getting caught in a Buy to Play game is costly and thus not worth the risk. There’s zero consequences for cheating in OW2 besides losing the account, which isn’t a problem since you can make a new account in seconds after getting banned on the previous one, and that’s literally the main issue with the game. F2P…
If that’s the perception of cheating in ow you have. Fair.
We disagree. No point arguing over it as we don’t have numbers other what’s announced as being banned. Which is about 2% of active accounts.
Agree. If I spent my whole time just watching cheater vods on YouTube, I would probably overtime think it is far worse than it is.
