So for a long time now, the main strat is to run 3 tanks, especially in gold/plat which is where most players reside.
I think it’s time something was done to fix this issue. It’s become stale regardless of whether it’s a good system or not.
Is there anything the Devs are going to do, or do we just carry on with goats forever?!
They tried with reducing health pools.
Sadly, with healing power creep, that really didn’t do anything.
I don’t think there is much you can do without fundamentally killing what “open queue” is meant to be about.
Ultimately it’s a fun mode, because of how bad it is.
I’ve won several oq matches against a 3/2 tank support combo with a 4/1 dps support on my team
In oq it comes down to individual skill on heroes and bursting down the tanks.
Well surely there’s some ways to improve it?
The other reply said they managed to win with 4 DPS, but this is almost impossible to do as most people can’t do DPS heroes as reliably as tank. I mean good luck convincing others in your team to change from goats to dogs…
The main DPS heroes that seem to get impact Vs goats are pharah, sym and junk. And these are all very positionally risky heroes to try and play and have many counters from both tanks and healers.
I just want open q to be more interesting.
It isn’t impossible and happens a lot. The tank strat is the safe option. But not a guaranteed win.
I think most people want that for the whole game.
Sadly with open queue you’re relying on player creativity. Which is lacking. They’ll just counter swap and pick the over powered heroes.
Maybe they need to think about locking players to 1 swap per 5 mins. A lot of what I see is the first battle makes the losing team switch to counter. And this I find a big drawback as it wasn’t so much an issue in OW1.
OW is meant to be about swapping and strategies.
But I do think they need to remove the retained ult charge. You shouldn’t be rewarded for a bad comp.
Counterswapping as a tank was Still there in Ow1… But there there was always one combo that was FAR stronger than the others. So eventually people would just mirror. (Hence things like double shield)
There probably is a good solution out there. One day they’ll find it. Me personally I’d be a bit more iron fist win it. Pick one role queue/open queue. Remove the other. Have the balls to say “this is the game we want to make” and if people don’t like it, they can go play something else.
I remember double shield but I also remember they introduced something to break that meta.
It very much was 2-2-2 on open queue for the most part as goats didn’t really work with random gold/plat/diamond players.
So maybe it’s just all the nerfs to “unfair” spike damage heroes, that it’s naturally resulted in a game of grinding attrition and instant swapping of heroes. If that’s what the Devs want then fine, but it’s making the game more like a rts than a FPS.
