Opinions on the new forum layout?

I personally preferred the last one but I like how they have put in the preview box onto the right while writing, what are your opinions on it?

I’m in love with the new forums actually.
It’s ages ahead of the old one, in terms of functionality / capabilities.
It’s still new, so there are a bunch of bugs to be ironed out, but that’s always the case with new stuff.

I do not like the new one at all, it is too messy. The older one was more simple and yet just as effective.

The new forums are cleaner in my opinion, because you can see summaries of the users that’s been contributing at the top. You can reply to a post, rather than having to quote them always, that way the whole threads more clean.

You have a lot of Rich Html Editing in these new forums. You can post Image / Videos / Rich HTML stuff.

The notifications are way more cooler. You have different tracking modes for different forums so you can chose what to follow and what not to.

The old forum had a lot of serious bugs that resulted in the thread getting deleted if the original post was edited, and it was more of a pain working with. While the new forums have a few bugs, it’s considerably a huge step up from the old ones.

I don’t much like the new ones to be honest here. I find the old one capable and simpler, and I really miss quoting, as that made sure I can answer easily to a specific part. Now I can still quote, it’s just much harder.

I like simple and functioning things.
This forum looks like a facebook chat or something (I don’t use face, tweet or any social media)
Its too cluttered, colorful, too much buttons…my, I am sounding like my father and grandfather already lol
*Basement door creeks: They don’t make the things good anymore, back in MY time…insert an old fart sentence here.
In short-I don’t like it.

What?.. its much easier to quo
te… Just highlight what you want to qoute and press qoute, and the edit box pops up…

I find it insufferable.

What I love about the new forum is the functions.
There are some bugs that needs ironing out, and I have reported a few of those, hopefully we’ll see them fixed.

The composing window is a lot nicer than the old one… You get to see cool previews on the right hand side.

I do agree that the new forums could be simplified a lot more than it is now.

For example, how about show the strip of buttons the Heart, the Sharing link, The Flag icon, and Reply icon when you mouse over the post instead of showing it every time ? Perhaps the number of likes could be seen permanently but the rest could appear when you need it to, hence simplifying the UI a bit.

That’s exactly what I dislike in it. The little preview window, all those uggo tools, etc. I just find it unnecessary. This is a discussion forum, and not social media.

The reason we need the preview to the right is because the new posts, let you enter interesting markups, to emphasis things.
For instance this and not this, can be visualized as you compose it.

This is a heading

This is a sub heading

This is a even smaller line

This is the tinest one!

Without visualizations I would have to imagine what I’m trying to express.

Would be horrible indeed, trying to understand what the other means. This is just like OW hero design path, make it overly simple so you can put a lot of effort into making it look more colourful instead of making a well written post.

Okay lets do a test of that…

Whats more easier to your eye… Statement 1 or 2 ?

Typography has always been important to more easily express ideas in the history of computing.

As someone who has an adequate intelligence to form and understand words, sentences and texts, both are equally easy to comprehend.

I agree they are both easy to comprehend, but wasn’t the second one more intuitive ? Your eyes never had to go over each word, and you could relate to it more like a picture. It’s faster.

And also you when you write really long posts proposing something, you can do this…

I don’t need to do that. I am perfectly fine with just adding bold or italic. It does the job well enough. If people actually learned how to write proper texts that are punctuated well it wouldn’t be a problem. You think even a big minority will use these tools?
On the other hand, it doesn’t hurt to have them here for sure. Does it make anything better? I guess for some people. I am all for giving more options, but some of the new things are just annoying.

You can represent statistical data in this manner too.

That’s very… okay. I don’t need these. I am going to rely on my own thoughts and logic, with all the communication skills I have. But sure, fancy it out. If it works for you.

And ofc, you can use interesting fonts.

Well just because you don’t need it, doesn’t mean a larger group of people wouldn’t find use of it.

Visual communication has shown to be powerful over the decades.
Why we would all still be on MS Dos, instead of Mac OS / Windows if it never mattered

Presentations would be created using tools like “notepad” instead of “Keynotes” or “Power Point”.
