Option for having the game in european portuguese

Greetings,
With the Summer Games update being live for a couple of days new cosmetics were added as well! Amongst them a specific Player Icon caught my attention, yes, it was the Portugal flag icon! So, my first thought was “Maybe Blizzard is thinking of creating a portuguese Overwatch hero or even a map” but who knows? But I do think one thing is certain, if they added that icon to the game, it means they know that Portugal is a nation worth of being mentioned in this game, which makes me really happy. Regardless, the main point of this post is to highlight the fact that none of the Blizzard games has translation to european portuguese which makes me question why do they have the brazilian portuguese option? I mean, the language is from Portugal not Brazil, on the other hand I understand that it does not have this option because we’re a small country compared to Brazil and most portuguese-speaking players are originated from Brazil but this is irrelevant, because regardless of the nation’s size I think we should have that option due to the fact that portuguese is the 5th most spoken language in the world!! So this addition would greatly improve my and other portuguese gamers experience in your games! I hope this post reaches someone of the WoW, SC, D3, Hs, HotS and the Overwatch team, because I think this will be beneficial for not only the player but also to the company itself!
I would also like to know your opinion on the subject! :portugal:

I agree with you. Even my kinsmen – Poles – are able to listen to Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Warcraft 3 (maybe Starcraft as well, I’m uncertain here) in our native language. Nonetheless, Poland is a country where it’s difficult to save up some money for a game of price of Overwatch, while many of my kinsmen have bought the game at release, I suspect most of them live abroad.
Or at least, that used to be the case when I lived there.

My point is: since Poland received full (mostly in case of Warcraft 3) dubbing for those games when Poles were not that good of a target, Portugal should also have the liberty of choosing to listen to their native language in those games.

It is nice to hear that others feel the same! I hope that Blizzard changes this, because we need our native language just like other countries.

Even though I’m german, I prefer to play the game in english.

Nonetheless, it would be nice to have more language options so more people can enjoy the game.

The only question is, how much does it cost to translate a game including new voices?

I prefer to play the game in English as well, since they have voices matching the background of characters, like Brigitte has Swedish accent and has more of the dialogue lines in Swedish.

I agree that the game in english has its original vibe, and I also think that the game is way better in english than in brazilian portuguese, but since I’m from Portugal, the game chooses the brazilian variation as my preferred language.
Regarding your question about the price, I think that Blizzard would receive its investment back due to the money that the Overwatch franchise generates, and as I mentioned before, this would benefit both the company and the gamer.

  • The gamers would have more options for language making the game suitable for at least 11million portuguese except for some exceptions that prefer the game in english;
  • The company would make the game richer due to its options in language and it may help the Overwatch culture in Portugal grow, which I think Blizzard would love!
