Overwatch 2 delayed

Well folks, seems that another nail in the coffin falls:
https://nintendoeverything.com/overwatch-2-delayed/

Minimum 2023, so it can even be later (if its not cancelled of course). A game with this look, this engine … leaving the first part without content for more than 3 years … thoughts?

Does anyone think this is going to work?

“Delayed”

Can’t really delay something that never had a release date.

Either way, their reasoning for doing it is perfectly sound and logical. So let’s hope it works out!

I mean it kinda had. Like multiple times they said it was close, like ending 2022 or before that.

The reasons can be logical but the hit is going to be tremendous. You can’t delay a type of game that doesnt really bring nothing new to the table (For PVE we have Destiny 2) and its basically an iteration of current OW PvP … with not a “revolutionary” graphic engine either.

That game is going to release dead in 2024 or even in 2023.

they shouldn’t have announced OW2 before it was on the end of the pipeline and was almost done.
as for overwatch itself, there’s plenty of people who have had their concerns confirmed that overwatch as a game doesn’t work and need major rework and them coming out saying that overwatch 2 pvp is gonna be different addressing those issues.

why it’s a problem for them doing this is basically them saying that their own product is bad and it’s their fault and need to rely on the hope that a sequel will fix the issues.

meanwhile the issues aren’t issues, it’s non-issues made by the community that don’t like the game, and by announcing OW2 is justifying that these non-issues are issues.
and now holding this grasp on when OW2 is releasing “fixing the game” is delayed it’s gonna make people upset thinking they will have to wait longer before the game is “fixed”.

and so ofcourse the community is gonna be upset by these news.

Theyve never said how far they were. Or even hinted at a date publicly. They are probably just pushing back internal dates that only written in pencil anyways.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them push out the PvP stuff as F2P later next year disguised as a “beta”, before releasing the PvE as a paid expansion later in 2023.

OW and Diablo, even if they didn’t happen wouldn’t be a massive inconvenience to the business, CoD and Candy Crush make them most of their money. So taking their time, getting the right structures in place and releasing when it is actually ready is a sensible move.

As much as people cry, OW will still be being played by a pretty decent amount of people in a year’s time. The survival into the medium to long term depends on the success of structural changes they are trying to make

In short, I wouldn’t be worrying. If you’re livelihood or gaming experiences revolves around 1 game then that is a you problem and not a dev problem. Some great games out there to add some variety to your life.

It’s gonna be as bad as OW1.

Again, IDK where are you getting your sources from but they kinda did. Thats why the delay now is a thing, because there were expectations set.
Sure they never said, this is coming out September 2022 but in many interviews they had to give account of progress and it when people thought it was going to be this year, they said that 2022 was a more accurate date. Now they are pushing even further.

Again, IDK what you consider “a decent amount” but taking in consideration the 60M+ copies sold and the insane low numbers of concurrent players, even MAUs … this is going down.

FAST.

2 years of no content means basically release a game with a Dead Fanbase.
And pray it doesnt get cancelled and ends up being a F2P game with a “pay per episode” PvE content.

Deserved it

Hahahaha

Not mention controversial controversy

OV2/II/Two/Overwatch 2/II/Two on pause

For now

Some people will think that. And they won’t return.

Considering there are still about 25million+ active accounts, somewhere around 9million MAUs, there is plenty there to keep the game rolling and breaking even for what will be 12-18 months.

They are not worried about losing a few more players.

The general theory from other games is that numbers will spike when it’s released. And even if it poos the bed like Apex did at the start, it’ll still make a lot and keep players.

Luckily for the company’s profits they have 2 massive cash cow IPs in CoD and Candy Crush. So they can take their time to get it right.

Going F2P with the beta in the summer is probably a wise move.

Paused? What are on about/about/about/about.

So we don’t get informed by the actual development team that Overwatch II is being delayed by another year. We find out via an investor document!
Does the development team actually know what is being decided by the higher ups? I have to wonder what the actual higher ups are thinking of.

That’s how businesses work.

They never gave the players a release date, so technically it hasn’t been delayed. But pushing back a release window for a major IP does require telling share holders as that might impact their decision to buy/sell/hold stock. (Just look at the share price since the investor call…)

So they are doing exactly what they should and in the correct manner.

Yes, waiting longer isn’t a great thing for the game now, but I suspect this isn’t the last twist in the tale. Got a feeling the PvP side of OW2 will appear in either beta form, or F2P sooner than people are now expecting.

But they are not though, because they are not informing current players about the work that is supposed to be the excuse/reason why OW1 is left for dead.

So no, they are not doing what they should (otherwise it wouldnt be delayed) and yes, they already gave specific dates, hence why this information is a delay. Just like if tomorrow they say it is 2024+ it would be another delay, etc.

That would only be a courtesy. One we’d all like, but they don’t have to tell the players anything if they so choose.

They don’t owe us anything. Just as we don’t owe them anything. If people don’t like things and walk away so be it.

They have never given a date, not even a year. All they ever said is that 2022 season of OWL will be played on a version of OW2. That’s it, and that isn’t changing.

Greetings @Rainmaker,down below @RodimusPrime has a right, something that don’t have atm release date cannot ‘‘delayed’’,if u ask me,I prefer to wait even until 2023 I don’t mind at all,bcs once game when come out,it would be without bags and good content.Blizzard is not small company that will let out evrything like that out, they like to work on their products and we players who stick with Blizzard know that.My personal oppinion, game will come after new year,so somwhere begning 2022.But we will see.

Dude you are not getting it. Again, point by point :
1 - Information has already been given, so stopping the info and being silent is a step backwards.

2 - They DO owe the playerbase content. OW was promised as “Game as a Service” which means content should be dropped every X months. If you stop that “promise” the second part of OW should be follow “fast” or at least within a reasonable period. 3+ years without content is NOT reasonable.

3 - Again, they have given an estimation before. Thats why this message includes the word “delayed”. Not giving a specific date does NOT equal giving ZERO clues or estimations.

Do your research before throwing claims, you are stuck in a loop and not arguing logically.
Moving the goalpost means nothing.

What was the original release date that has been delayed then??

They owe us nothing. Content is an olive branch to keep you interested, or bring people in.

Again, what was the estimation, because all they have said in writing was on the animated short that said nothing to give a date.

Research has been done. If you knew the original date, or even window, you’d say it. Only people who knew were in Team 4, and even that it was softly penciled in as they’ve said many times they won’t release until it is ready.

“We’re more than aware we need to get it out,” they said.“So the word is the dev team has been told to lock in the features the game has, get it fixed and get it shipped. We’re looking to get it out before the Summer of 2022.”

Dexerto, Forbes and gameradar.

If you dont understand or remember that it was sold as “Game as a Service” thats on you buddy but they did SEVERAL TIMES release communications about the frequency on the content being released (that being maps and heroes).

Dude. STOP
Seriously.
You are wrong and misinformed. This ends here. Do your research and stop replying the same things on a loop. You will get no answer because its already been debunked.

yes they messed up even mentioning a date or even the sequel itself, currently it’s looking only like a fix to the current game and that’s on them.
and then also announcing a date and then delaying that date on such a premise.

so if you perceive the current game to be flawed you’re not gonna be happy.
as for new content, it’s a pvp game with enough content to be a full game.
getting new content is just icing on the cake tbh.
but the attention span of this new breed of players are probably gonna expect new content on a constant basis compared to free games that have to put out new content to even make money to begin with.
