I don’t like this, I mean for someone to reach the diamond border it takes years and you just simply remove it? why even? It looks nice and there is a sense of accomplishment to it if anything I think u should add more borders.
Think about it from another angle. It’s just abuse.
“Why you that level and only that rank” and so on. And the constant false smurfing accusations.
Plus “new” game, new way of rewarding player. I’m sure it won’t just disappear, but showing off about how much time youve sunk into something is a bit old now.
(Edit, you can see what I mean from the person below… Lol)
Why you wanna show off your no life border?
Greetings @Roumi, I want to agree with all what you said,I like levels and borders and if that it will be removed I am losing alot, but community on top then everything else,if that people want let them remove,I assume there will be thousends new stuffs at Overwatch 2.I am Casual player.Beside all this,it’s a Company Blizzard Activision, they know what they doing in mine oppinion they are top 1 Company in the World.
it is a live service game with evolving changes .deal with it
Come on, you are talking in that way because you don’t have anything to lose or just want to restart what you have. However, the others who invested their time in getring these boarders I can fully understand and see this as unfair as well. It’s not about showing off as you say
It’s not even worth worrying about.
Borders are irrelevant. And if they’ve said something is going, don’t get attached to it.
Boo. It’s like stripping your rank from you. Add boarders.
This is a good thing. In plat and lower its just a metric to abuse people. I fear for every time my border levels up.
“OMG you no life level 10000 and only gold, you suck noob noob noob”
Yeah. It is really odd that people still use it as a stick to beat people with.
Saying borders don’t matter, in my opinion, is nonsense. So your saying, if you got to top 500 in overwatch 1 and all you had to show for it was the top 500 player icon, and then they said they’re removing player icons, that would be fine? That’s the same thing. There are people who actively played the game even during the lower point in overwatch’s life and they’ve got a high level to show for it, but now it’s gone. I understand the toxicity that comes with it with different ranks in different borders, but let’s be real, the game is riddled with toxicity and it always has been. Removing borders doesn’t suddenly change that
I think it was removed both because players who had a high level but were not a high rank were ridiculed and new players being matched with veteran ones thought they were being matched with high skill rank players (Which most of the time was absolutely not the case)
Damn I did not notice that necro
Might be a necro, but yeah, well explained. I get that high ranked players want to show it off, but basically, for any rank lower than diamond, a high level border was truly a burden. Having a golden border in a low to average rank myself, I am so glad they’re not clearly visible anymore. I actually didn’t play on this account for a long time just because of that - as mentioned above, having that border level up was a form of stress for me.
For what it’s worth, looking at someone’s profile displays their legacy border, the level they’ve had when OW1 shut down. It’s even visible when you put profiles to private (which I personally don’t like, I would have liked that to be optional). So while it’s a lot harder to spot, it’s not entirely gone.
I understand some of the arguments made about this topic, and learned new things players are facing I haven’t even thought about, but I still think there must be a better solution to this, for example not showing border in Rank, and that’s just the first idea coming to mind without thinking really hard.
I’d like to add that I reached platinum and I really want people to understand how many years it took me to get to that level, and I wished for something more as a compensation at least.
Personally I know I’m shockingly bad at the game but don’t really care what others think of that, If someone is that concerned by my playstyle vs my portrait level then at least one of us is bothered about it.
I did however like the portrait levels as it was just something to work away at for casual players like myself who only ever play in Quick Play. I think I ended something like 30 levels off my first silver portrait but I was looking forward to achieving that, as I had been the stars I earned before, it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things but it was a bit of fun and something to target in Quick Play.
Maybe the compramise that could have been made (especially since the old level is frozen in place there anyway) was portrait levels still being earned but as a private thing in the Career Profile. That way theres no stigma associated with it in games and players can choose if they want that infomation to be private/shared when people view their profile.
What have you played OW for?
Golden Weapons? → Skins, I do not really care…
Equipment? Not available.
So basically you played 6 years and you can show it with the border.
They deleted it.
