Overwatch Classic Mode

I loved the idea but is it me or they did it dirty?
I didn’t play when it was released. I played back in the beginning of 2017 until almost 2019 I think.
Why is there no limit for the characters? I can’t take it seriously and it’s annoying. The games are so short too…
I was willing to spend money for Dragon & Oasis on Symmetra but we can’t even do that. My friend too and yes many of us stopped playing before OW2 so we won’t all use our old account again. Just keeping the compatible costumes will be enough.
20 days only? It should be longer or brought often then, like every few months…
Or why not a separate client that needs to be payed for (if not also free), over the free OW2? I would even be willing to do competitive again. And I do believe it would bring back a lot of people. I know there are many as well who won’t abandon OW2.
For a future OWC event (or permanent version?), you should bring a newer version too. Like when Symmetra had the shield generator but when Mercy still had the old ult maybe. So it stays far from the current state of the game. Either way, I’m also fine with how the game was at first but let’s just say people got better now so it might not be the best idea…
People will probably argue about balance and stuff but it can never be perfect. I had fun back then.

It’s based on OW before official launch.

It’s a heavily sanitised version of that.

If the event succeds, they do it more often, bringing back OW1 from other patches. So is possible we’ll have one day Orissa old kit, DPS doom etc…

I think not even Aaron Keller or Team 4 has a power to make this decision, this should be something decided by Blizzard big dogs. I don’t see selling a OWC separated game to be profitable.

I see, cool for the first point
Well, I miss the loot boxes but you might be right. I don’t think people who already bought the game during OW1 should pay though

Edit because I can’t reply to RodimusPrime: I didn’t see loot boxes that way, it was cool because you could hope to get cosmetics every time you leveled up. I never paid for them and there’s battle pass now instead…

I mean, who would pay for OW1 while OW2 is free and is being marketed being better than OW1.

As per a California court clarification… No one bought the game (irrelevant side issue)

Loot boxes were a plague on gaming and purely their to get people addicted to gambling.

Far better to just let people know what their efforts will earn them, or sell them the item directly.

Classic will be nothing more than random limited times events occasionally.

Broader scope, I actually think they should scrape role and open queue modes. And just have 5v5 or 6v6 as your choices. (Assuming it can function, and running 2 balance patches isn’t a drain on resources). That would be my hypothetical ideal solution.

Realistically they’ve already said 5v5 is staying. And I think they’ll find a way to not do 6v6 as a permanent feature.

I would but I didn’t really think they would do a free (permanent) version of OW1

That’s incorrect. It’s based on OW1 season 1.

I live in a country that bans games with loot boxes and it’s ridiculous. We can find electronic gambling machines in almost every coffee/bar, we can play games like EuroMillions or bet in sport games in almost every library, casinos are legal etc… those things are the real gambling problems, yet they decide loot boxes are the problem, that is not even real gambling.
Yet surely they can find ways to workaround those restrictions, mobile games like Clash Royale are based on loot boxes and operate without problem here.

I know cases of people addicted to those electronic gambling machines that we see in coffee or sometimes restaurants, but never heard a case about someone specifically addicted to game loot boxes, sometimes we see kids spending parents credits cards money, but that will happen with any item sold in game, not only loot boxes.

Yeah the rules are applied stupidly inconsistently. Helps if your industry is donating to political parties I guess.

But it’s simple. If it’s in sight of minors it should be banned.

I don’t like that law at all, it doesn’t make sense if we can access gambling machines in almost each coffee. But worst, to understand why games like Clash Royale that are destinated too kids can operate by selling loot boxes but not games like Lost Ark that is for more mature people.

It’s more just doing what you can to limit access. Nothing will stop them if that what they really want to do.

Most of it is down to law makers complete failure to grasp the industry, one being a predominantly mobile game. Which probably comes with loopholes in the law they’re exploiting.

In the UK, EA played our gambling commission and got away with it.

Some chuff about no secondary market. Which is interesting because if that’s the metric… Pokémon cards should be ages rated and banned from sale to minors…

yeah this is the 1.0 Version of OW1, just without Lootboxes, Portrait Border Progression, ect. so that aspect of satisfaction is still missing… would’ve been cool if they give you your Portrait Border back in the OW Classic Mode^^

It’s a nice Idea but I’d argue that we would’ve had a way different Experience if they would’ve let us play the Final Version of OW1

as for me I started to play OW1 some months before Sigma released and let me say the most Hero that I killed in OW1 might’ve been Brigitte^^

Oh yes I thought the same. All the interface is still OW2. I’ve heard the maps are not 100% the same but I forgot. The graphics too… I actually liked them more before but it makes sense to not get them back unless we get a separate game. We can do without lootboxes but the rest is a bit sad.

This is probably true. But as they’ve no intention of getting rid of 5v5. And only want to do “classic” as a token gesture… I doubt they’ll ever do something like that.

It’s a cheap PR win and nothing more. Surprised they’ve done it now and not in a couple of weeks, where there is a “Rival” being launched.

They did for WoW, that’s also why I thought it might not be impossible
Like OW2 can stay 5v5 but a classic version of the game could work well… I’m sure Blizzard knows better anyway so time will tell

WoW was, and probably still is, their big cash cow.

Kotick would divert as much resources as he could into it because it was making so much money. To the detrimental of many other projects. (Which is why they went from making games for so many IPs to pretty much just WoW (and later CoD)).

Sadly Jeff Kaplan turned down the resources and people to make OW2 preferring to keep the team “small”. So something like that is very very unlikely.

Microsoft could in theory green light it. But atm they are very hands off with them. There certainly doesn’t seem to be any desire for it from blizzard people.

Welp, I can’t complain too much. I’m already thankful for the mode.

It’s fun. Enjoy it while you can.

Hopefully next time it’ll be from a point where ow was actually good. Then people can actually let loose and enjoy some games

yeah the Maps are 1:1 from current OW2
but the Heroes got their old Selection Screen Animation back, which is nice but funnily shows that OW2 is kind of a graphical downgrade^^
