The Maps in Overwatch are amazing! They have many different areas, Easter Eggs hinting at bits of Lore or just a fun joke and in some cases, some interactive areas. Those places include Busan (Karaoke Room), Horizon Lunar Colony (Telescope) and Junkertown (Hidden Room in Attackers’ Spawn). Anyways, I wanted to expand on this idea of interactive areas by adding in Traps.
In this Article, I shall suggest some of these traps for a number of different maps and hopefully, you might enjoy them. Also, since these are supposed to cause damage, they should have a cooldown on them. These traps will not attack people on the same team as the person who activated the traps. Also, I think that the traps aren’t instantly accessible once the game starts. It would be unfair for the Attackers if the Defenders got there first and activated the traps as soon as the game started.
Junkertown
I have a lot of ideas for Junkertown. All of them are related to the Scrapyard Arena. I think there should be a room added to activate all of these traps.
-
Spikes; All over the Scrapyard, I see a lot of spikes. Maybe, they can be used in a more lethal way. I think that there could be a button somewhere that, when pressed, launches the spikes up, stabbing whoever is close by.
-
Flamethrower; Another one of these traps should be multiple flamethrowers placed in various places around the arena. Once activated, they would cause a lot of damage and cover all of the ground in front of it. When the flamethrower turns off, there will be some flames still burning there. It will cause less damage but it will fade away after a while. I think that Mei could put out the fire once it turns off.
-
Spinning Platform Direction; This involves something that is already in the game. There is a large platform spinning around clockwise in the Scrapyard Arena. I think there should be a button that could change the direction of the Platform. This could be used to disrupt a team’s strategy or just for fun.
Busan
Busan is the latest map in Overwatch and it is already one of my favourites. My favourite part is the Meka Base and I think that there are a few things I can add to make it cooler.
-
Elevator Control; In the Middle of the Meka Base, there is a small elevator shaft left open so it can be used as a flanking route. I think there should be a button to call up an elevator. This could disrupt a flank or trap a player when they’re being chased. You can activate it with a control panel beside the elevator on the top floor.
-
Summon MEKA; This is a fun feature that I thought of. During a fight, you could call one of the MEKA pilots (D.Mon, King, Casino or Overlord) to attack the enemy team and then, fly back to their hanger. You could activate this in the room with the other MEKAs.
-
Manual Walls; One of the main features of the MEKA Base are the walls that go up and down on the objective. I think there should be a place where you can activate and deactivate the walls. I think it should be on the same floor as the elevator control panel.
Volskaya Industries
Volskaya Industries is a pretty cool map to play on. The features I will suggest mostly connect to the short “Infiltration.”
-
Security Turrets; These are scattered around the areas between Objective A and Objective B. The turrets have a small amount of health, so they can be taken out easily. They could be activated by a control panel inside the factory
-
Security Gate; This is a large gate that could be opened and closed to focus the enemy team into one area. The gate can be opened and closed in the control room to the right of the objective (Attackers’ side)
-
Sviatogor; In the Volskaya Industries factory, there are a few Sviatogor Mechs being built. There is one facing Objective B and I think it should be used to attack enemies on the Objective. It would do that by smashing it with it’s fist. This would take out any enemies on the Objective and knock back any enemies near it. It would take a few seconds for the Sviatogor to smash the Objective, so that would give the enemy time to escape. It would be activated in the control room near the right exit of the Defenders’ spawn.
Temple Of Anubis
Temple Of Anubis is a classic map. I don’t have a lot of ideas for it but here is one that will make the fights more fun.
- Guard Robots; Near the choke point between Objective A and the Attackers’ Spawn, there are two giant robots standing there like guards. I think that you should be able to activate them to either protect the choke or hold you position. It should be activated by a panel on the balcony above the choke.
Hollywood
There are a few things in Hollywood that I think can be used as traps.
-
Explosions; In the middle of the map, there is a set for a western based movie. I think there should be some areas with explosives behind the walls. It will kill anyone who is nearby and they cannot be reset. They could be activated by a lever near the Defenders’ 1st Spawn.
-
Falling UFOs; In the last area, there are aliens and spaceships hanging from the ceiling. Maybe, if you shoot the cables holding them, you can knock them down and they can crush your enemies.
Petra
Petra does have a unique “trap” in the form of the collapsing floor but I have an idea for a trap that will make the map more intense.
- Stealing the gold; There is an area in Petra where you can see a small room filled with so much gold, you could probably find Scrooge McDuck in there. I think there should be an option where you could destroy the wall and get inside. In the room, there would be a very shiny, rare piece of treasure. You have the choice to pick it up and if you do, the whole building will begin to collapse. Rocks falling from the ceiling, the ground is shaking and the only safe place is outside. Once the shaking stops, players can go back inside. If you do pick up this item, it will give you extra XP for that match.
Other Traps
These are a group of things that are already in game but I want to change them so that they can be used offensively.
-
Drones; There are 3 maps that have drones. Oasis University, Ayutthaya and Rialto. These drones would attack with melee attacks or maybe, a laser blast from the Oasis and Ayutthaya drones. You can control the Oasis University drones by using a control panel underneath the point, since that area isn’t used very often in matches. The Ayutthaya drones could be controlled by a panel beside the statue in the middle of the map. The Rialto drones could be controlled by a panel on the wall facing the Opera house on the other side of the canal.
-
Death by Crush; There are 2 maps that I want to talk about here. Eichenwalde and Hollywood. In Hollywood, there are multiple elevators around the map and in Eichenwalde, when you move the payload into the castle, a bit of the doorway collapses. If you stand under either of these, you’ll get pushed back. I think it should be changed so it will kill you if you stay under there.
Sombra
Sombra is key to countering these traps. She won’t be able to hack all of the traps. She can only hack technology based traps. Here are two ideas I have for what she can do to the traps.
-
Disable the traps; If Sombra hacks the traps, she can disable for a short amount of time. This can be used to destroy them while they’re down.
-
Sombra’s team can control them; The other idea I have for this is to take control of the enemies’ traps. If they are turrets, drones or guards, she can make them attack the enemy.
Thank you for reading my really long article. If any of the people at Blizzard see this, I hope that you will agree with my ideas. As for everyone else, see you on the Battlefield.
