Hi, I was just wondering if Overwatch 2 will be a big deal when it releases?
I’ve heard a lot of people saying Overwatch is dead, it is really dead?
Well the playerbase has most certainly dropped, even with the release of 5v5 instead of 6v6 might even kill of another portion.
I’m sure plenty of players will still try it, though those who are playing other games nowadays might not even notice the release.
It doesn’t feel dead, but the moment you want to play comp, you will notice that there are big rank discrepancies between players, which means they are attempting to backfill gaps with low rank players.
As for OW2, we might see a typical player base spike as we see with many other games when big updates comes. I’m personally betting on big initial spike, and then month later back to low population.
“dead” is just a meme, although the player base is drastically smaller than it used to be (unsurprising given it is a 6 year old game now)
I would expect OW2 to see an initial short term increase from new and returning players. And if it’s good and content flow is ok, should stay healthy for a long time.
Additional things that could help are going F2P on the PvP side. Now that they’ve split it from the PvE game, this is a real possibility (one I think it desperately needs).
Can you provide proof of these rank discrepancies?
I don’t know if 5vs5 is even going to help dps queues, i am a support main, and i am planning on going full dps when overwatch 2 comes out.
To show blizzard that removing a tank slot is not a solution, if they want quick dps queues, they should do it in a other way.
Step one would be to rework priority ticket system, why get 3 on a win and 1 on a loss? It should be 1 on a win and 1/3th on a loss of a ticket. Making them more rare, but also more valuable, since with that you could put the priority queue down a lot for dps to 2 or 3 mins instead of 7, like healers and tanks have.
While the ones that absolutely don’t want to change can be stuck in their 15 minutes ques.
I recommend all support and tank mains that love having two tanks to band together on this, if blizzard sees it does not change the queue timers for dps at all and makes it even worse somehow, hopefully they retrace that idea.
Completely agree, it’s either gonna be a hit or a miss. I don’t see it being that much different to OW now, I guess only time will tell.
I think it won’t go well because Overwatch is designed for teams, and the vast majority of people want to play solo, but playing solo means you are constantly on a back foot, and suffering for your random team incompetence. Eventually, people get feed up with bad experience, and they prefer to play other games where they actually get rewarded for their effort instead being punished because some Timmy throws a tantrum, and other guy refuses to learn the basics.
It’s a shame because Overwatch design wise is actually pretty great, and gameplay is fun, but the moment you want to play competitive while also playing solo you are doomed.
This is why I recently picked up War Thunder again, and started playing Single Player games.
When I queue for battle in WT I’m genuinely excited to blow up some tanks, and when I queue for OW game I’m stressing out wondering who and how will screw up my game.
That’s why the more death match style comps are popular, even in the highest ranks. People can just get on with playing their game.
5v5 will give people more scope for individual impact in a game.
No more team mates crying “it’s a team game” when what they actually mean is they are sitting around waiting for others to do things for them.
with ow2 pvp and later pve many people will come back . the game is at good discount atm . so if somebody is only interested in pvp ,now is the time to buy it at good discount instead of waiting for its price to go up when ow2 releases . just my two cents .
They’ll probably give it a go but if it’s similar to OW1, I don’t see it lasting. I may be surprised though, we’ll have to wait n see.
Not sure that is even possible. One of the issues OW1 has is 2 tanks, and how comps and metas that throttle the fun people can have out of the game.
Will be interesting to see how people cope with less ults in a match too. People going to need to step up and get picks.
It’s mostly dead yes, and for good reason! I’m actually happy the playerbase dwindled as much as it did. People jumped ship when they saw what dumpster fire of a game OW had become in recent years.
There are still players queueing up, but whoever still plays are just the remaining toxic excrement Stockholm syndrome sunk cost fallacy hardliners who are completely intolerable and impossible to play with or against. It’s a cesspool of salt, rot, mold, and vomit that is completely unconducive of fun, fairness or any approximation of pleasurable emotions.
And since OW2 is the exact same game, same goes for it too.
That is a bold claim. .
their username is self explanatory . google the word meaning " ubermensch"
Don’t worry, I knew what their name meant, I just ignored it.
