Every other ranked game, the lag spikes to 300, making it impossible to play. My internet connection is fine. When playing stadium mode, it happens every other round, and I can’t even open the shop. It’s incredibly annoying.
I had the same issue over the weekend in quick play and ranked. When I restart my game and rejoin the match the ping is fine but I have to abandon the match for about a minute. If you play quickplay with a friend you cannot rejoin the match because the game will fill someone in.
Yeah, it’s absurd. It happens often enough to warrant a suspension and lower the endorsement level if someone consistently leaves the games with spiked ping. And if you don’t, you’re dead weight to the team. I found that the ~300 ping games are on Finnish (?) servers and have been a problem for 2-3 weeks now, but during the last week I’ve been getting more and more unstable games on the Amsterdam servers as well, with latency fluctuating between 40-60 (beforehand it stayed at 40), even spiking up to 150 midgame (!) seemingly without reason.
yes I have the same issue
was fine this morning, normal ping 20, logged out to do stuff irl (Ghasp IRL? IKR) logged back in and ping about 350. Went into training stadium and it was like playing at 20 FPS yet I had 300-315 fps looked at ping and it was about 150 fluctuating to 300+
Logged out a few times no change so checked for updated graphics drivers, yup there was one installed it re booted and latency still at 150. went into a QP game to test and it settled about 30.
Last few days my normally very stable 20 latency has been 25 or higher but that’s still playable 300 isn’t nor is 150.
From the first log off to do stuff nothing changed except possibly routing to blizz or something at blizz servers.
Hope something in my ramble helps sort it. I’m missing way more than normal ![]()
Toodles
13th gen I7, RTX 4080, gigabit connection oodles of ram etc.
Yeah I posted this issue on Reddit, found more people with the same problem.
I wrote to Blizzard Support like 3 times, did everything they told me to do - ping still spikes.
I told the GMs that its not my fault, because on every other app (e.g. Discord) i still have 30ms, while Overwatch breaks itself with 300ms due to random routing.
The GMs kept replying to my ticket with ideas like:
- Turn off your VPN (i don’t have one)
- Turn of proxies (i don’t have any)
- Add Overwatch.exe to firewall exclusions (it was already there)
- Restart your PC (even though i specifically said that this issue has been happening for multiple days straight)
Now they said that they dont have any more recommendations and I should “reach out to the developers, so they can review the issue” XD.
All I see on this forum is Blizzard not responding to like 80% of the posts, because they’re about the ping spikes and routing issues, that are Blizzard’s fault.
This company is a hell of a joke, so I guess we just have to put up with it for whoever knows how long ![]()
They don’t respond at all,. there’s only 1 community volunteer on the US forums
That would suggest and issue with your connection to the server, rather than the sever itself.
Sadly. Probably isn’t anything you can do to fix it. Doubt your ISP will care enough.
If so many people from different countries using different ISPs are experiencing the exact same issue ONLY with OW (other games/services work just fine) then clearly it’s something concering Blizzard?
If it was a server issue. Its Google’s servers they use.
So, Google.
But, connections to said servers are often a bit random because the infrastructure sucks.

Hej, ktoś znalazł rozwiązanie na Twój problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/1s7ng5u/sometimes_finland_servers_are_laggy_250ms_you_can/”
Sharing this from Polish Overwatch Forums.
I can confirm that, the solution from this Reddit post is working. Matches with absurdly high ping didn’t happen, after setting this firewall rules. I even checked myself, if truly Finland data center is the issue, no problems while playing on Netherlands and others.
Maybe checking with repeatadly creating custom matches on different DCs and blocking it similiar way could help. Maybe with help of someone, who has access to IPs of another centres
Reposting from PL and Americas forums. Works for me.
Same here. I’ve been disabling and enabling my network adapter in order to return to normal values.
Before connecting, I have around 200-350ms of latency.
After reconnecting it’s 50/50 chance to return it back to normal values (30-70ms).
I already have been banned twice for leaving the match (during the shop time in Stadium) and not received any points.
My internet is optic fiber, and I’ve been connecting to Gen1 servers.
No other games have this issue, and it’s been driving me crazy.
Also playing from Poland.
issue still persists this season if you’re wondering
There were so many hopes this to be fixed after the patch release - no fix. 30-50% of games start with ping 300, it is just unbelliveble that they don’t pay any attention to the problem.
In a competitive game I tried to rejoin quickly in the beginning, I did rejoin, selected a hero and the game just kicked everyone despite 10 ppl in the game. I’m now banned for 15 min.
Quick play is simply closed for me cause it can’t return to the same game, you just get banned aftert leaving several times, and you obviously can’t play with ping 300
