So i started playing ranked in season 14 and got placed in gold 2300+/- sr, got background from other fps games so i placed avarage which was fine to me at the time.
Season 15 kicks in and i got placed 100 sr less than last season( 2200+/-). And i was pretty sure i got better with game mechanics and all in 2 months but didnt really care about the placement.
Season 16 placements…Oh here we go, got placed 2080. And i can tell that i carryed 2 of placement games as a only healer on the team, and we actually won those matches. Went 5/5 becouse i soloq so teams communication isnt always there. And i am far…far better than i was in season 14, yet i got placed below. Just asking, HOW?
just don’t soloq, there are people instalocking dps and stuff. maybe that’s why
Well im not really upset for the teammates i got, most of them knew what to do and if me or someone else said to “regroup”, “dont push too far”, “enemy rein got ult ready so watch out” and so on, they listened. Biggest problem is just that how i can be placed below my last seasons rank when im far better that last season.
PS: not salty or anything, if i give that image
At lower ranks, your gain/loss sr is based on your MMR. MMR is a hidden version of sr for all of your game modes. quick play/comp etc. If your MMR is higher than your sr you will gain less and lose more and vice-versa. But also your gain/loss also compares your stats to other players of your rank who play that hero. So if your stats are better than your fellow gold players you will increase. Because of this system, it is better to stick to one hero for the whole game to inflate your statistics and gain more. You probably just are not playing as good of an Ana as others of your rank. (Sorry if that is my fault I’m a gold Ana)
Got kicked from a placement match for inactivity but the game was still loading, now i’ve lost 2 placement matches because of this, i don’t know if it’s a bug but it needs sorting so i don’t have to play with people who instalock DPS and are just awful
Two important things:
a) While you get better, so does everyone else. Gold when the game started was way worse than gold the way it is now.
b) The game doesn’t know you got better. You see, it’s like a parent - it will remember the stupid thing you did 10 years ago and not acknowledge that your ability back then has almost nothing to do with your ability now. MMR changes over time, but much too slowly.
c) It still can be done. When I started out, I was placed at 2k. I didn’t belong there, I dropped to 1500 within a few games. I stopped playing comp then, reevaluated my choice of Ana as a main back when she was completely bad, and sort of stayed in silver, not doing much comp.
After I while I noticed that in my actual game modes (MH mostly), I would be matched with plats, some diamonds, even a GM once. In other words: the game thought I was better. I then decided to grind SR, won 55 games while losing 17 and climbed from 2k to 2.5k in a matter of a week or so.
So yeah, what to take away from it? For one, most people get overrated when they first start out and will probably lose some SR soon thereafter. If you actually got better, you will eventually climb, but you have to do more than the placements. The placements just take your previous SR and adjust it slightly.
Also: playing as a support will hurt you if you fullfill your role. That’s just the way of it - it’s all geared around DPS, which is why so many DPS players have game sense far far far below where it should be at their specific SR.
It doesn’t matter if u get better or not.The SR you have at the end of the season +/ - 100 rating that will be your next season’s rating after the placements.
Yes exactly.
I lost 7 and won 3 matches, got placed 2640
season 14 ended 2723.
If you ask me its a stupid placement system.A waste of time, and to me a few 100 SR plus or minus means nothing. That goes like that the entire season anyway.
Either a fresh REAL placement between bronze and GM or nothing at all.
A mmr reset should happen every season i agree . There is a huge amount of smurfs in this game that it won’t rly make any difference if they reset the mmr.
Absolutely r*tarded idea, you can argue, that placements are not needed, but they do provide an amount of time you can actually take a break for many people, other than this a totally new set would boost and tank players rating hard, depending on purely how lucky they were with their teams in 10 matches.
If you wanna get higher ranks, then go win matches, stop asking for free boosts to your SR.
A MMR reset would mean that all masters and Grandmaster alt accounts have to climb back up there again, meaning that the smurfing problem would be worse each season.
you havent improved at same or better rate as other players of your rank. Thats why.
don’t you think this would be a very unpleasent experience? I mean, WHY exactly introduce a way less accurate solution with a larger spread? Your playstyle won’t take a huge leap forward within few days between the last season you played into the next, thus why would you expect being ranked way off your last season’s ranking? Also, a player who was luckily put way above his “true” rank due to inaccurateness of a fresh calculation would be a blow to the rest of the team.
What you are asking for is a lot more randomness of the teams during first weeks of a season, with no upside.
Right, A total mmr reset is actually not a good idea, haha !.
Good points.
However i still think the placements are a waste of time
they are same waste of time as regular comp matches, because thats what they are with SR not displayed.
