Playing DPS in ranked

Plat/Diamond player here, I play every role, most of the roster, usually fill and shotcall A LOT. Filling means I’m either support or main tank most of the time. But sometimes I get to pick dps, and I love it since I almost only get to play DPS in QP.

I never get more insulted than when I play dps. I get flamed by the feeding, no space creating tanks ; or by the absent-minded support.

Most of the time if I lose first round as DPS, someone suddenly instapicks my character on 2nd round.

Last week I played hanzo, having 15 headshots at the end of 1st round. Gold whatevs, I think I did pretty well.
We did struggle for last part in attack and the Ana OTP kept complaining about random things in text chat. I didn’t pay attention till the end of the round, since I died very few times, was shotcalling and focusing on my gameplay.

I then see text chat about “sh*t dps” “hanzo switch you suck” etc… And I ask the guy to either talk to my face (since I am the only one talking in chat), take dps so I can switch to his role, or focus on the gameplay and stfu.
The first time I hear his voice he says something like “son of a b*tch” then leaves chat…

We begin to lose the defense, not winning any teamfight till almost the last part of the map when he switches of his main heal role to take torbjorn.
I was last alive with Doomfist and instead of trying to contest I run back to spawn to switch role since we really needed the healing… This guy saw me come back, and switched to Ana again…

That’s a REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for me dawg… I stopped after this game.

TL;DR : most tank and support think they have the “ungrateful” role. They are envious of the flashy dps role and are very quick to point out “I don’t see you in killfeed” etc… but don’t focus on their own play which should enable the dps.

While I don’t respect most tank/support player and think they are whiners there is some truth to this. You gotta understand, DPS is a) the hardest role in the game and b) currently underpowered. If you want to play as one you better be darn good or else - switch.

I see you are about the same rank as I am and I have to disagree on both a) and b) (considering our rank). My three most played heroes are Ana, Rein and Lucio and all three are really tough to carry with sometimes.

I can eat the other rein, playing supa aggressive if the team enables me.
I can make clutch sleeps and antinades as Ana, also do a lot of damage, same goes with Lucio.

Its tough to carry with them because its harder to kill people. Carrying is all about killing, hence why I pick heroes like Roadhog and Zenyatta, a tank and support who can kill people and help with the carrying.

When you are going as a DPS things are trickier. Killing is all you do and the current meta with 3 supports and 3 tanks make it harder than it was before.

No support from your team and no tanks. Also no dps helping you.

Why should you need help anyway? You must be more intelligent than a monkey.

But i guess you’re not top500 on every dps bc you don’t like the role right?

Goats is called goats for a reason.

Im play exclusevely mccree in comp and i can confirm your post, is bloody hard to even stay alive sometimes as dps.

Even with soldier, i think your best chance as dps right now is either genji, tracer, hanzo, widow or DF

All of them can do cheap crazy dmg and even if you can’t, you have the tools to self sustain you, soldier also can, but his dmg gets outhealed by pretty much everyone.

Also, its not a coincidence every plat i see is playing tank or support.

Fun fact in top 500 there are 0 soldiers atm

Aaah the good old strawman. just because I feel like playing one character more than the rest in this particular season doesn’t mean I am good with him only.

But my point still stands, you claimed that playing as DPS equals you to a half-monkey or something. Prove it. Pick DPS, play in your own rank and own people.

Well, blizzard knows what they are doing, i trust in jeff’s will, if he thinks FTH need to do 330 dmg with 0 aiming involved i trust him since OW is balanced and competitive

Besides i almost never use it, ignoring it helped me to actually learn to hit stuff during my playtime.

No, im serious, my avg kill per game with fth is maybe 1 or 2

I don’t like it. I think if you wanna learn him you need to learn to ignoring it

BTw my point still persists, mccree now can cheese the ppl unlicku enough to get close to him but he still has no mobility and bad cd’s. So better go hanzo if you really want to dps

At least you do not depend 100% from your healer, you can move around and survive easier.

I think it’s more “if you wanna learn to aim”, because FtH is now very viable against anything that’s 15m or fewer away ; also with roll you do 660 dmg in 3 seconds, 990 if you also cancel ult.

No mobility yeah, I think he will always have to be around his team for that and cannot flank much like hanzo can.

Actually all of that was sarcasm, i hate the last buff, i think it is completely stupid. You can buff him in aty least 10 ways, but they choose to simply buff lame the hammer.

The thing is simple.

Except one shot dps ( that are the ones you see most in prettu much all tiers), others dps are garbage, because they do not bring more dmg or utility than rein for example, or zarya.

Zarya with at least 40/50 % charge completely melts everything, at 100 LOL it even melts the walls. Her ulti is broken, and rein can put some crazy damage as well, the difference is, he has 500 hp + 2k shield, soldier doesn’t.

Tanks need a nerf, because they are not tanks, are legit dps with 500/600 hp

and he can be right, maybe not at all ranks and with all dps (but I’m not even sure of that)

Isn’t that a balance problem though ? Goats being meta makes some heroes feel useless or way too ‘niche’

Yeah I get that, with a main tank perspective mostly. But remember what I said : I have quite a big hero pool, but still have supp/tank as my most played heroes so I believe I have quite a broad perspective (while I can always be wrong though).

Its just something you need to get use to or start playing with party’s of your own.
Its well know that dps will be bad forever thanks to the fact that they want more casual players to join and pick up tanks and supports. Its obvious that most tanks and support are easy value bombs no need to sweat over that fact, my tank solo q acc is only account is only 1.5k SR higher then my dps solo q one. But my 6 stacked once have less then 500 sr difference since for DPS to be playable it needs a really strong & supportive Tank play (ATM) and for that to happen it needs good support play.
Dps is only “easy” once the other 2 elements are getting played right no need to feed into random spiteful trolls who think that the DPS class needs to magically solo kill everything on the other team without space or skills. Just don’t solo que. from what you know that “flaming ana” was a dps main getting salty that shes on support and such. Solo que in this game is really bad since one bad/out of place teammate and its done on top of everything else working agenst it like facing 6 stacks, getting 5 Mercy,Rine,Brig one-trick/mains on the team, inability to sometimes build good team comps, the inability to swap counter on specific characters, role queue missing, trolls/boosted players with hidden profiles, etc.
Main point just don’t solo queue because at one point the solo queue aspect of this game gets unplayable and every change that they have made has pushed that aspect further away.
