Blizzard has made this incredible feature for us, let’s not eff it up. I’ve already received endorsements for “shot caller” without even saying anything in the chat.
Don’t get me wrong, Imo you should be light with the use of that feature. If someone even as much as little bit makes an effort to make a shot call, then endorse that person. But not without anything at all… please, I plead you OW community. We have a tool that could be great, and all it takes is for us to screw it up.
When there’s 50xp to earn you can bet people will just pick any one and any reason to endorse players, the system means very little thanks to the blizzard implementation.
I tend to endorse tanks and healers in QP just for trying to helpout.
What I learned about endorsements.

This is absolutely true. The whole thing is completely meaningless. However, it’s also very meaningful. Playing Overwatch in general is utterly meaningless but we do it for enjoyment and this endorsement level number has an abstract value to it just like the abstract value we take from playing the game in the first place.
Maybe a tricky thing to get your head around, and it definitely depends upon the players attitude towards the whole thing. The logical part of my brain knows that this system is meaningless, but perhaps the “emotional” part is happy to receive endorsements?
I still think that it’s a good thing, even though it’s basically a con to make people act nicer. I can live with that if the output is less toxicity.
However, ya I’ve also received shot caller for not saying a word over coms. I will also tend to favour the tank / supports when giving out endorsements. I also use all my endorsements every match. I think people should be generous with endorsements because the more you give out, the more little positive boosts you’re spreading and whatever meaning they truly has is an abstract one, but for 99.99% of people, it will be a positive abstraction rather than a negative one. I can’t imagine too many people getting upset for being given an endorsement.
but aren’t you then exactly the problem instead of the solution? I mean unless you endorse them for a reason. Looking at your post it seems you just endorse for the sake of endorsing.
I endorse them if they tank and support, otherwise you have a team of just damage dealers, I feel tanks and healers who perform their role are good team players.
If they pick Baguette for example and then say “I’m dps only” which has happened a lot, they are battle Mercy or Jump away and die Winstons then I wouldn’t.
As time goes on I will be more strict with the system, I will get bored of it and then it will be will verking as intended!
My reason for endorsing is getting 50xp.
Act nicer how? They are not endorsing you because you are a good person, they do it for the exp.
You know if people just stopped being unbearable arses to each other they wouldn’t need to put in a good boy meter, it’s really not that hard to not be toxic.
I quite like getting endorsements even though they are completely meaningless, as a forced support main (I would like to do some killing too but no one else is healing!) it’s nice to at least feel a little appreciated
I’ve noticed people seem less eager to kick off over tiny things since they came out, it’s only a little change but what else can they do when you have such a salty community?
They act nicer throughout the match in order to receive endorsements.

I am not playing that much, plus like I said nobody endorses after a lost game so half of my games I am not getting any.

Even given all that, it has some value. What I see is what you do, but if you actually do contribute in a meaningful way on say advising the team you likely will get 3 shot caller endorsements. This means that very high numbers indicate someone really active in one of the three areas, a middling or low number likely indicates they are not. I think the primary issue is you get three endorsements, it should only be one.
People will gradually stop using it when unnecessary for the main reason that it would take 400 endorsements to get enough xp for 1 lvl basically making it useless to do so.
Add to that that humans are lazy and you’ll see that if there isn’t enough incentive then people won’t waste time pressing the n button.
Funny then, I was never suspended or muted even though I’ve been playing competitive for hundreds of hours(the only time being my own experiment). But by all means keep being an obsessive stalker, I love making cockroaches like you mad.
There is no difference between being toxic and getting banned and being toxic and not getting banned.
This comment makes it pretty obvious that you are toxic but haven’t been banned yet. I don’t know if this is due to the fact that you are more subtle in your actions making it that people don’t care enough or maybe because you only insult people when you think that it’s safe to do so.
Either way it doesn’t matter
I havent been muted or banned ever, doesent mean I cant be toxic. And according how you act on forums you are toxic. I would be surprised if you wouldnt be toxic ingame.
Endorsement doesn’t matter at all if you’re not toxic you will get them easy as that.
Not being an toxic, childish, rude etc etc can earn an endorsement, in my book. There’s nearly always a positive reason to endorse, but a neutral reason is simply the opposite of reporting someone. It’s great to have something nice to do, just for the sake of it.
