Symmetra rework is So Amazing but Jeff said that shield Generator will be removed, Shield generator isn’t the best Ultimate but it’s has been always an Optional Ultimate for symmetra! Let symmetra switch between new Photon Barrier and Shield Generator, Please!!
Nah it’s better this way. Not having to hunt down that thing will be a blessing.
Yeah I agree with TooTrue, shield generator needs to go away since Torb , Brig is already adding enough armor around. Sheild generator on top of that will make 200 hp heroes tanks. Plus shield regenerates back if left untouched for a few seconds.
And also running around playing Hide n Seek to locate the shield generator was un fun and a waste of precious time. It felt more like a chore.
The thing is taking Shields away from Symmetra will make her much different to what she originally was. I mean at release she could give everyone 10 shields each (which was fairly useless but still), and then they gave the 75 point shield generator which was much more effective.
Don’t get me wrong, the idea of the hard light barrier that she might get sounds nice, but we’ll no longer have anyone who offer shields to the group. No to mention the shield generator was very easy to find/destroy in most situations.
Who cares what the character was originally? Balancing the game and making all characters equal is the first priority.
The game will never be truly balanced, and besides I care what the character was originally and clearly the OP has some interest in what they can do otherwise they wouldn’t of made a thread.

The idea behind balance is to increase the number of heroes played overall across many games. In the current meta we been seeing a lot more diversity, at least in the OWL games in stage 4 so far.
That’s a sign of better balance, compared to the old Dive meta.
The game is a competitive e-sport first and a character study second. Currently the balance is horrible with only 2 tanks being strong and most DPS being useless.
E-sports are not enough to decide balance. It’s the casual players (whether GM or bronze) that drop the feedback through things like the forums, which Blizzard then decide to act on. Once OWL is over, that can’t be a go to area on what heroes are or aren’t being picked.
Anyway this is all going off topic, actually offer discussion on the shields (and the generator).
Why are you acting like casual players don’t want balance or something?
From the past balance happens in the higher levels of the game… Be it OWL, or high up the ladder. Those then trickle down to the lower ellos.
Balance never happens purely on what happens in the lower ellos and trickle up
That’s the cool thing of being among those players at the higher levels…

If you actually went back to what i previously mentioned, all I was stating was that no hero will be able to give shields to others if the Sym rework goes ahead. This is nothing to do with balance, it’s just raising awareness on a unique toolkit which will be lost. After all it worked pretty well when that first rework happened, the only thing that changed it all was other heroes becoming buffed/nerfed leaving Symmetra behind.
@Star Also i never mentioned anything about low elos, only that it’s requires collective feedback from ALL ranks before decisions are made.
Its a legit assumption because you did say that there are 2 ways to balance - for casuals and for OWL. Since OWL is the ultimate judge on what is OP and what is not I’d say the casual way to balance doesn’t actually have balancing in mind.
I didn’t say there was two ways to balance, I said that OWL is not enough to be used as the balance. After all, heroes have gone through balance changes way before the OWL even started, so therefore it’s not the ultimate judge because it’s only a temporary medium. The league gives more visibility yes, but like I said it’s the casual players (no matter their rank) that have the most to offer in terms of feedback.
And they are also most often wrong. If you want to balance you concentrate on the highest level of competition where players use heroes to the limit. When you already have this kind of competition(OWL) you shouldn’t really pay attention to much else.
