Will The OW1 OWL skins ever be re-released again in the near future or was the big OWL inventory sale during Season 12 the last and only opportunity to obtain any OW1 OWL skin? Since with the re-release of the OW1 OWL skins the skin codes were removed and are now unobtainable. Just asking out of curiosity, that’s all.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they did come back.
I also wouldn’t get your hopes up for anything outside of OWCS promotion.
Well true, there’s that with the OWCS promotion and drops, but I still don’t understand why they brought them (OW1 OWL skins) back only for a limited time period if they could keep them in the OWL shop until it’s closure. But this is just my opinion on this matter.
People were invested in the OWCS finals. So it seemed like they were just taking advantage of the hype.
If you just had them in sale the whole time, you’d probably sell less of them.
They should just sell the old OWL skins for OW2 credits tbh. Make it fair for everyone instead of milking us the way they’re doing right now. The teams have all been disbanded and won’t benefit anything from those skins being sold anymore anyway.
Or, don’t, but release them for a limited time around OWCS events.
Artificially create demand and also use it as a tool to promote the event.
If you have them up for anyone to get at anytime. You most likely won’t sell as many.
Zero business sense on this one.
There’s no ‘taxes’ to be paid for keeping the items in the store. There’s no downsides of it either. By selling them for credits or coins they’re far more likely to sell the OWL skins than selling them for an outdated and quite honestly a pointless currency.
The teams won’t make any more money off of any future sales as the teams have long since been disbanded, but at least fans who haven’t been able to get the rest of the skins for the teams they followed can do so at any time.
They wouldn’t sell more that way, and that’s actually a scummy way of selling them.
The best way is literally to sell the OWL skins for OW2 credits or coins rather than removing even more history from the game.
It’s a proven retail concept (scarcity marketing, with a dash of fomo) It’s why you often see products come and go.
Big recent example… The mcrib. When it was a permanent menu item, it wasn’t a big seller. But now, they make far more money just having it appear on the menu sporadically, building hype, and using it as a PR tool for the company.
Yes, (and I’m sure there is a negligible increase in costs if they had them on there, but probably close to zero), but that’s not the game. They know they’ll make steady revenues through the year.
And they also know there is some demand for these skins, because they aren’t available. So when they are, they sell well.
If the were just permanently available, people would be less interested, because everyone could/would have them.
Is it underhand. Yes.
Are consumers a bit silly for falling for these tricks. Yes.
But, it happens. So they’ll keep doing it.
