there’s so many facets of a game that gets ignored and relegated as useless because it’s not meta, but what about fun? exploration? creativity? challenge? autonomy? taste and preference?
power gaming is a way to play games, but it’s not the only way.
and if you play casually, what’s the point if it ruins the fun for you, why do it?
i see this trend everywhere infecting every game, every “influencer” trying to shove meta tactics down your throat like it’s the only way you will be able to play and enjoy the game.
but for most players meta don’t even matter.
for example, what’s the point of knowing that for example cammy in SF5 is the meta best character in terms of winning if you can’t even utilize the character to that degree where it will actually impact your game making you win more games, and even if you did, was that the character you really liked playing?
or dark souls 3, sellswords are great but is that really the weapon you like using?
in summary, power gaming is an option, not a requirement.
how does this relate to overwatch? well there’s a lot of players trying to force other players to play meta in a sense trying to force others to power game when that is not the intention of every player in the game, and subsequently it really doesn’t apply to the vast majority of players because meta don’t matter because of the lack of skill to play meta.
making it a mute point to even try to force others to play something they don’t even want to play.
