What’s your opinion on this?
I haven’t found an official statement on this matter so I’m posting here…
With the new Role Queue system, the queue times are increased by an insane margin for players queuing for impacted roles, or any group in higher ranks to be honest. Implomenting a practice range while queueing or something similar (not skirmish, as it’s never populated enough to be practice), also while in a group, would definitely increase the QoL in the game (in my opinion).
No longer prepared for the game
Currently, I can easily have queues of up to 30 minutes while queuing for my main role, and it’s ruining my gameplay as I’m unprepared when the game starts, and not warmed up anymore. I don’t want to play another game while in queue for Competitive in Overwatch, as it’s just a bad solution to a problem I think could be easily solved.
Servers
I understand that the Practice Range is running on it’s own server, and implomenting a Practice range in queue would definitely increase the strain on those. But couldn’t it just be client hosted like Rocket League does it? Or just prepare for the added traffic?
We need Practice range while queuing, and I don’t see any complicated reason why it would be a problem to imploment. It would definitely increase the QoL of the game, as I said earlier.
Skirmish is not an option, and will never be in my opinion, as the gameplay is too slow to represent a valid warmup scenario. Practice range has bots that constantly spawn in close vicinity which allows you to practice and warmup without stopping and waiting for other players. FFA wouldn’t really be a solution either, as it doesn’t necessarily help you warm up if you already have a routine for the existing Practice Range.
The fact that the queues are so long that people are getting bored waiting to play the game is a huge issue. And it can’t be solved by letting us access the Practice Range, which ALSO has a bunch of problems with it.
Maybe this is Blizzard’s plan to get us all playing their mobile games…
But it can definitely improve the QoL while queueing. MY problem is that I lose my warmup after 30 minutes of queue… this problem would be solved by enabling practice range in queue.
I definitely want it as queue times are now much longer.
However practise range needs to be updated so that the moving bots give a more realistic feel of gameplay
The range should be much larger, one where 6 bots (doing minimum damage) try to get to you to control a beacon, and you must kill all of them before they reach you
More mini games like that, and an option to instantly go back to spawn to change instead of walking back (especially with my proposed larger map)
This would really benefit players for people like you who have to warm up every 15 seconds, and people like me who want to have fun
Wouldn’t you agree that watching memes on your phone for 30 minutes while in queue would definitely mess up your performance when you finally get into the game? Like memes are nice and all, but yea… I wanna play my best when I get into the game…
Yeah I guess, but I don’t have 30 minute queue times. I know it’s different for the top 1% of players, but for lower ranked players, dps queue times are manageable right now, for the most part.
I totally understand though, and I definitely think it’s a feature they should add/should have added a long long time ago.
I don’t want the feature to be exclusively for solo queuers. When you’re in a 6 stack as well, the queue times can be long, I think. What if people could go into practice range when doing that as well…?
I barely play competitive, if you look. 90% of my time on this game is in quick play. I pretty much just play my placements every season, a few games after that, and then leave it. Comp just stresses me out, I get a lot of anxiety playing it. I don’t think I should be as high as I am. Also I said “Lower” Implying lower than GM, which is where the OP is.
I don’t see why not. Queue times are longer for 6 stack anyway, cause the game also has to try and balance out group sizes, so I would defo like to see this.
