Huge problems of priority passes:
-
Damage mains play roles they aren’t familiar with just to get lower queue times
-
If you get a role which you don’t like, you don’t care as much about winning because you will get the passes although you lose
-
Also people who get healer as dps mains would just use the flex rounds to train their aim and would play dps mercy or moira with broken right click
This is really hurting the game experience of people who just want to play with a good team.
You’ve only just figured this out?
One counter to your issue… how do you expect people to “git gud” on a role if they don’t play it.
If you just want to play with a “good” team. Make a group. You can’t use or earn passes in a group of 5 or more.
i think the biggest issue with priority pass is the MMR that people have on other roles that have somewhat transfered over to their other roles, making a plat dps play a support in plat but they might actually be bronze or silver supports.
ofc there are other issues aswell, but that’s the biggest thing i can think of currently.
100%
Watched Emongg try it and he got DPS in a 4400 game. Even he admits he isn’t anywhere near that level anymore as he doesn’t play DPS.
Not sure there is anything they can do in reality. As the game sense is still there and that is a massive part of your “skill”
well they could have separate mmr and sr on all 3 roles.
meaning for example emongg would have to place all over again on dps and he’d have to progress on dps fresh equally to if he had bought a new account and placed for the first time.
sure there would be some chaos in the placement process and such initially but that allready happens with new accounts anyways.
however there is not such a big issue with it anyways since sure they would lose a lot until they got to their proper rank on the other roles, but that would just happen but reverse if they were placed fresh ruining the experience for others as they grinded up to their appropriate rank.
and to that idea, you ideally want to face people better than you to improve anyways, so getting stomped back down the rank would make them improve on their roles faster as they have a mentor with a whip on the enemy team showing them the ropes.
so in a sense, it’s not really a problem, it’s just a time thing that needs to happen.

They do. But if you only play ranked on tank (Emongg as an example), they won’t have the data on your his off roles for it to matter.
But yeah you are right. Just play games and you will balance out where you should be.
You might get lucky and find games easier.
But I think we need to give it a month or so, let the dust settle before making judgements. A tiny number of people are throwing on off roles to get games over quick and gather passes quicker. Once they realise that isn’t worth the effort things will settle.
exactly, or it’s a trend that’s gonna develop to be a staple part of the game and everybody is throwing on priority pass and it’s gonna be dubbed the thrower pass.
How many people only play one role anyway. It is a very small number at the very top.
Others will just be worse on other roles, and there is nothing wrong with that.
I think when it settles, it will be a tiny tiny percentage that mess about with it.
Just like it is a tiny tiny percentage of people who were throwing before this lol.
pretty many people only play one role even just one character, that was kinda the problem before role qeue in average ranks, it wasn’t really goats, it was One-tricks.
allthough people like to forget that one-tricks was a major issue back in the day.
with roleqeue it did help, except that the huge disparity between dps and the roles in terms of players never changed because people were so hardstuck in one character, and eventually some did atleast pick up a couple more characters, however that was only more characters in the same role they were allready playing.
honestly they will never make tanks attractive because not many people like playing tanks period, it has nothing to do with the strength of the characters, it’s the playstyle that doesn’t appeal to people and the devs have to actually accept that when they move forward.
One tricks were never a problem.
People getting toxic because they perceived people to be a one trick were.
Same now.
People just need to learn to chill out, the one trick is probably the better player because they’ve not wasted their time trying to git gud on everything lol.
no there was a legitimate problem with one tricks before, you could land in a lobby where nobody played tank or support against a team that had 6 support one-tricks and they all played mercy only.
it was a big problem, biggest issue was that there wasn’t tanks and supports to go around to have “good games” and not many was willing to flex so one-tricks was also a major issue.
many people even said before role qeue, if role qeue goes through i’ll start playing tank because it’s actually worth playing since you actually will have a viable team secured in every game.
well look at it now, no new tanks and they are just slowly disappearing one by one.
truth is, there will never be a good amount of tanks ever even with priority pass with people essentially just there to throw on tanks, not even with the throwers is enough.
so in a sense, 2-2-2 is pretty optimal for playing the game, but 2-2-2 will never work for the general public due to not many people pick the other 2 roles bla bla bla. i guess you get the gist by this point now.
I 100% 222 is miles better for the structure of the game.
But if your im a lobby of 6 and one person is a one trick, it isn’t their fault one one else plays tank.
If their one hero is the only one they enjoy playing, I’d rather they played that.
No one ever cried about the Rein one tricks… so whys it any different for others.
People worry too much about what others sre doing when 99% they are playing badly themselves lol.
because you can work around 1 one-trick and build a comp that fits them better.
get like 3 or 4 one-tricks and it’s gonna be down to the individual skill and less so the comps inherent synergy.
but yeah really it’s usually not the comps holding back the 60% of the playerbase.
however if everybody picks dps, it’s kinda down to the devs and the players to come to a solution that works rather than ignoring the big pink elephant in the room.
If your are diamond or below… even in 222 it is pretty much individual skill that wins games.
It is rare you play as or play again a highly coordinated unit.
So give me one tricks any day.
Just look at the team Avoided in Contenders. All off meta one tricks. Still competing at the highest T2 level.
So one tricks are never the issue. Just the mindset of those playing around them.
do you mean the clockwork comp? basically all one-tricks that complimented each other and had good synergy?
Nah. Clockwork Vendetta had 3, Torb, Orissa, Hog and it worked really well.
Avoided are a new team of the most avoided players in ranked. This time round they had Bastionmain in there team. Usually run the Ball one trick Ball.
Also, current DPS rank 2 is a Pharah one trick, turned 2 trick with Echo. on 4712sr . He’s also rank 8, 10 and 11.
Like I said. One tricking was never the issue. Peoples attitudes towards who they one tricked was.
You one trick Rein, everyone loves you.
You one trick Brig, everyone things you’re a skilless plank.
If people stopped worrying about such dumb things, we’d all just have better games and get along.
to a degree that’s true and i agree, one tricking isn’t an issue now, but problem becomes if you have basically 2 mercy one-tricks or 2 widow one-tricks or 2 reinhardt one tricks in the same team.
now the chance of that happening isn’t that high as there’s only 2 people in each role now but before roleqeue the chance of 2 one-tricks showing up in the same team was a lot higher, and basically robbing you of your one-trick character did happen a lot more even if they weren’t a one-trick, basically taking the mercy one-tricks mercy just to be spiteful did happen.
but i will say this, just in case it’s allways good to have a back up.
that’s why i rarely only play 1 character at a time, i usually go with 2 in the same role that i default to, so i basically 2 trick 2 characters for a time and then swap maybe 6 months later to something different because i usually get bored of the game at that point and need to reinvent the fun for myself.
True. I am the same. And I’ll play anyone the team needs.
But if we get a one trick. I pick to enable them. Because they will most likely be better than I am.
thing is, i did that at the start, pick what the team needs.
but really that usually never matters and i learned that during the non-role qeue phase of the games lifespan, you know what happened? i just became default a reinhardt one-trick basically because no one picked tank.
so really, never pick a character because others want to have fun, pick something that you will have fun on instead, it’s easy to miss the point of the game.
there’s a thing game devs usually say about players.
if you give players freedom to choose whatever they want, they will min-max the fun out of the game from themselves.
I’ve picked what I wanted, then swapped to enable others when it wasn’t working this season and I’ve gone up nearly 1000sr. From high silver to nearly diamond.
I don’t worry about what others pick. I just play what works.
9-1 record tonight, 4-1 last night.
