When I press P to see the social menu in a game, it shows I am in Team chat, meaning the little headphone icon is activated, but right under “Team” there’s “Match” and it’s in red and for that there’s no headphone icon, only a red textbox.
Not sure what’s gone wrong, my settings or hardware haven’t changed since OW1, and while I was under the impression that people just weren’t using vc anymore, I’ve had many games in comp now where team mates have told me to get in vc, and I respond in text that I am and they say no you’re not. So I think there’s something wrong settings wise, even though literally nothing was changed hardware or settings wise.
Appreciate any clues
The whole VC settings are awful. You should be able to select which type of mic you want to use, but they don’t give you that option. I’ve always had problems with OW VC since day one, always messing up.
Have you checked the settings on your PC? In WoW, you can select your own device instead of “Comms device” etc, but with OW I believe it’s down to your PC settings.

^^ this
and:
problems in voice chat are usually related to connection problems
you can of course try to work your way through the usual support pages or turn off IPv6, collect a WinMTR, etc

but the actual connections problems could also be with blizz (at the moment there are a lot of reports about server problems / disconnects - here and in other forums)
…
TLDR: i would wait and see… if the problem still exists in a few days, you can consider taking action

Yup.
Confirmed. Go to your PC sound settings, select the microphone you want to use for your input device, then that should sort it. That is if VC is enabled on OW as well.
Windows > Settings > System > Sound > Input device - Your mic.

Thanks guys, will try it. Thing is my microphone isn’t connected and therefore nothing for mic is selected in sound settings.
Also in sound settings, everything is set to default, as it was in OW1. But I’ll try connecting the mic again and see if maybe that’s a prerequisite to get vc working. I remember in OW1, it didn’t matter if the mic was connected or not, vc always worked, meaning I could at the least hear others talking.

I connected same mic I used in OW1, looks to be working as in sound settings, then I used same settings in OW2, but it still won’t let me join vc. And everything is on autojoin.
If everything on Desktop settings is fine, I really have no idea what’s going on. They do need to sort their system out a bit, I mean their VC settings is quite bad…
So strange. Literally the same hardware, same sound settings in Windows and Overwatch. even the same microphone. Oh well. Thanks anyway. I’ll drop support an email and see what they say
