I have a friend who is completely new in Overwatch, he has about 20% winrate in quickplay cause he is new for this game and for shooters in general. Isn’t he supposed to be played among similar new players? Why is he being matched against players that have 500+ level in overwatch 1, have above 60% winrates in quickplay. I’ve been spectating such matches personally, it wasn’t even a fun experience for the whole team where my friend was placed on meanwhile enemy team was literally spawncamping on top of harassing them in chat with messages like “get off this game if you are this bad”. Wasn’t playing such matches, was spectating them.
Another question is ranked. Why does it not let players who troll to not pick roles they don’t know how to play as. I mean, when I am support that does top healing, top saves and basically your team doesn’t complain about you, there is a dude who has DPS role, picks Genji and does 3 times less damage than I am as Mercy. I’ve seen that personally and I’ve been in such matches. Today I got demoted. What am I doing wrong aside from playing such gamemodes? I mean:
we had a match today, where Ana was ulting our tank Rein/Roadhog. That’s cool, fine, understandable. After getting ulted by our Ana the dude run AWAY from enemy team into our base and our whole team was asking like “what are you doing” only to get “I don’t care” as an answer… In ranked. And I got matched with same guy 2 matches in a row.
Then, I have a question. I always play to get wins both having fun and so on. But when someone trolls in quickplay and you tell him to stop trolling, I get an answer like “If you want serious matches and wins then go ranked”. I join ranked and it’s just the same with same trolls.
I don’t position myself as a cool player, no. I am playing for winning, I do understand that 100% winrates are not a thing unless you are using illegal software, I do understand the skill issue exists, fine. But the skill issue doesn’t equal to “5 ranked matches lost in a row just because a dude simply refuses to play normally or gets a role he has no idea how to play”.
Matches are a little up and down in quality atm, that is fair. Nothing to do with MMR or the match maker though.
That is more down to people not playing like it is 5v5, or you will get thing like the Gold Genji player, who now that mechanics is needed to counter them, they get a lot more value. So there needs to be some shuffling of those who are better now its OW2, and those that are worse.
But that will only happen with time and people playing.
A little? That’s why my friend in ranked has Bronze 2 as DPS with 23% winrate and he keeps being thrown vs players who are at 67% winrate, and he never gets matched with them in his team, right? Again - isn’t it supposed to place him in matches of SAME skill/mmr? Cause from what I see, it doesn’t even try.
In order to properly assign an SR to people you need quite a bit of data. New players’ SRs generally reflect their skill less than old players’ SRs, so with an influx of new players you get a reduction in match quality.
Nothing that won’t sort itself out, though.
I’m very skeptical of how you got that data. Most players have their profiles set on private in my rank, which is above Bronze. I would expect Bronze players to have their profiles hidden even more than players above Bronze, so how are you getting any meaningful data on his team mates or his enemies? Or did you just see 2 people out of 50 with a high win rate and concluded: “everyone has high win rates”?
Another 3 matches lost in a row in ranked because teammates were DPS, who did nothing. Whole team asked to switch in all these matches and those bots did nothing.
High quality matchmaking and a very good report system that doesn’t ban throwers and players who don’t care about winning in ranked but ruining matches for all other players.
Because I have such data to operate on, was doing enough screenshots and searching for profiles for those who have set their profile pages to not be private.
They’d be similar MMR to you, just having a bad game. You got unlucky to get on a run with people either having a bad time, or making mistakes. It happens.
Well, I’m quite new too, and my experience is similar. Lot of stomps. And I mean the attacking team on escort or hybrid map can’t even leave the spawn kind of stomps. Skill mismatch between teams or just individual players is absolutely awful. It’s a bit better at weekends in the afternoon. Late at night or early in the morning, it’s horrible. I’m basically being used as a training dummy for seasoned players and probably whole teams. Once every 5 or 7 games I get a free win, when I don’t need to do anything. I still try to contribute, but I can see the four man group in my team is basically wrecking the whole enemy team even without me.
Excuses that the system needs more time are just lame. This game is very different from a MOBA, sorry I mean a hero brawler (yes I also play HOTS). There is still a lot of tactics, positioning, knowledge and cooperation needed at the higher levels, but pure mechanical skill can get you quite far and completely dominate other players with the same game knowledge, but lesser mechanical skill. And mechanical skill is easy to assess. Come on, you don’t need some sophisticated AI to quickly determine someones ability to frag. In HOTS you need a lot of time to determine someones MMR, because pure stats are very misleading. Here pure stats mean a lot and it should be obvious after 5 matches that player A is on a completely different level than player B in terms of mechanics. Blizzard is not even trying to make it reasonable. And I wouldn’t be so frustrated if they were frank about it and clearly stated, that once I enter a queue for a PvP game I’m on my own and they’ll throw against me anything they can find. But no, they promised me to match me against players of similar skill. Well, they don’t deliver and at times it feels like pure sadism.
And while my rant looks just like a whining of a noob and the solution is to git gud, please believe me I’m still not the weakest link in some of those stomps I’m being subjected to. Well that’s my copium at least.
And the most insulting part is I can’t even view profiles of the players I play with and against because almost all of them are private. In HOTS I can at least see I was wrecked by some random master who got thrown into my quick match game by nonexistent matchmaker. It happens very rarely, but it happens (masters in my qm games, while I’m probably silver). I don’t think I encounter overwatch masters here, but the infamous “diff” is so obvious, It’s impossible not to state the obvious in frustration. And then people complain about toxicity and demand Blizzard to ban the word “diff”. It’s not an insult. It’s a review of the matchmaker (which is atrocious) and the solution is not to ban the word, but to fix that atrocity.
