Because it forces us to play something we might not enjoy whatsoever. I know i don’t.
Just put it in a separate tab already…

They’ve already explained why they don’t.
They actually need people to play it to test the changes.
They’re excuses, nothing more.
They’re not changes, they’re experiments. It’s literally the same as the old experimental mode.
However, in this case, they’re forcing people to be guinea pigs for something that may or may not be added into the main mode, and that’s wrong on so many levels…
They won’t get any accurate data whatsoever from forcing this on their player base. Not when they replace quick play RQ and OQ with it, because those who want to play the game will play it regardless, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they enjoy it.
If they absolutely have to do it like this, then they should at least do surveys like other developers worth their salt do, to get actual feedback from actual players, because raw data doesn’t mean anything. What they’re doing now is just look at the data, see how many are playing and go ‘Oh, so and so many are playing so that means they must like it’.
Only because you don’t agree with the answer.
But if you played the experimental card. You know what they said is true.

What do you think they are experimenting with a bunch of things… it is literally them “throwing S at the wall to see what sticks”.
However, in this case, they’re forcing people to be guinea pigs for something that may or may not be added into the main mode, and that’s wrong on so many levels…
They aren’t forcing you. You can just play ranked, or arcade, or custom games, or fortnite, or go watch a movie.
If they absolutely have to do it like this, then they should at least do surveys
They do surveys often now, they had one the other week. They will also survey people after the “event” is over.
Oh… and here is the perfect answer as to why they do it…
Q. Why didn’t we bring back the Experimental Play card?
We want to encourage more players to join in on the fun. In addition, most of the experimental cards from Overwatch tested hero balance changes, whereas these changes affect the core gameplay rules of Quick Play.
“The first question that people asked was why we would run this mode in Quick Play rather than something like our old Experimental Card, which was originally created for this purpose. The truth is that the Experimental card was never popular enough for us to get the type of data we wanted from it. Only about 18% of our players joined this queue, and out of those, the overwhelming majority would only play 1 match before going back to their preferred modes.”

Which is literally the excuse.
People didn’t play it because they didn’t like it. See that’s the thing about human beings, if we don’t like something for whatever reason, we avoid it. They should’ve taken that as a hint and not force these experimental changes on us.
They want data, not actual player feedback, because they don’t care about actual player feedback unless it comes straight from the boot lickers’ mouths.
They’re not encouraging anyone, quite the opposite, which is probably why the queue times went up in QP RQ/OQ during this forced mini event.
They aren’t forcing you. You can just play ranked, or arcade, or custom games, or fortnite, or go watch a movie.
Yes, they are forcing it on us. It is the literal definition of forcing something on the majority of players.
Not everyone play or want to play ranked/arcade/custom games. They enjoy Quick Play as it is, and the majority play QP, not arcade/custom games.
Only because you don’t agree with the answer.
But if you played the experimental card. You know what they said is true.
I did play the experimental mode back in the day and some stuff were fine, other stuff i didn’t like, so i played one or two games before going back to regular QP, because That’s How You Cater To Your Customers/Gamers.
What do you think they are experimenting with a bunch of things… it is literally them “throwing S at the wall to see what sticks”.
They need to come up with a better way of throwing crap at the wall then, because this isn’t the right way of doing it, and it’s just not gonna ‘stick’… We’re literally being treated as guinea pigs here for them to use as they collect useless and worthless data.
Can’t really expect more from a director who worked on WoW, a game where the devs have experimented with its player base for almost two decades now, with the result being that more and more players have quit the game due to said experiments with every expansion and content updates. It’s the staple of Blizzard game. If it works, try to fix it. If it’s broke, don’t bother.
Had they at least warned people far in advance with a specific date for it, as well as posting a survey online, it wouldn’t be so bad, but when they just flip the switch and replace the most played modes in the game to experiment on us, it’s unhealthy for the game and its population. Nobody likes to be forced off of something they like, or forced into something they may or may not like.
They do surveys often now, they had one the other week. They will also survey people after the “event” is over.
Where, when and how often did they do an actual survey for the game and the majority of players? The ones who get surveys are content creators, and they are not the majority, and they certainly do not represent the majority.
Not everyone will get a survey, which they also explained in a previous video, where they said ‘you may after playing’. They didn’t say ‘you will get a survey after playing’. I’ve been playing for years and still haven’t received a single one of these surveys you’re talking about, nor have i seen any online surveys that matter and touches on the pain points of the game etc.
Feel free to post a link to them as i’d be very interested in seeing for myself what i’ve ‘missed’ here.

They are in the game client, so can’t share links to the new ones… they are just the standard “rate the match quality” type stuff so nothing that exciting.
Did you not even get the survey pre OW2 that spelled out, almost step for step what OW2 would be like (people just didn’t realise at the time).
I’ve never gotten any surveys during the 8 years of playing ow. They aren’t very frequent or widely spread…
Me neither, maybe we do not spend enough money to be worth of that kind of luxury

True. But if they gave them to everyone, every time… You know what would happen. It would just be mountains of bile.
People can’t help themselves.

I’ve never spent a penny and still had a good few of them.

The extremely few surveys they’ve done over the past 8 years have had nothing to do with them wanting us give feedback on game play mechanics etc, but more about irrelevant stuff that nobody care about. Oh wait, i remember one single survey where they asked about what we thought about some of the stuff that nobody liked about the experimental mode, but other than that? Nah…
Surveys should be about game play mechanics, maps, hero kits, and QoL features. I have never received a single survey that ask me to provide feedback about any of those things in the years that i’ve played this game.

On in 2022, was all about pricing skins and bundles and what content people would pay for and stuff. Even spoken about customisation of skins, which obviously lead to mythic skins.
Honestly thought it was just going to be custom choice of the base skins based on how they worded the question.
Found someone’s bleak post on Reddit about it, which has some screen shots of what they were asking.

Because those are surveys they send out to content creators, not regular players.
I’m not a content creator, and I completed it.
It was sent out to thousands of players in an email. Half the discord server I was in at the time got it.

Here’s another one I had, pre OW2 which talked further about possible monitisation. (Sorry this person shared screenshots in German)
i gave up on comp and just started playing QP casually
now i have to deal with this experimental bull and its put me off QP
not gonna bother with the drama of open q so ive stopped playing for a while, too bad im only half way through the battlepass

That just makes it worse though, if they just send out to a select few instead of everyone. That’s just a horrible way of gathering feedback…
It was completely random. Next time you could get it and I won’t. Or neither of us will. There’s been a few I didn’t get, but have seen because others I know did get it.
It’s horrible, or you just annoyed you were left out, because no survey ever has conveyed the opinion of every person impacted.
They just want a broad outline of opinion. They’ll get he opinion of others when they put it in the game.
I don’t know about poorly implemented, the stated reasons for doing it this way seem fair to me.
That said, I hated this experiment. I don’t pretend to be more than an average player but one victory out of twelve matches is statistically improbable, something seriously nutty is going on for those numbers to obtain.

The moment I read what the event would be I decided it want for me.
Seems from the pole they’ve done it’s been a pretty mixed reception.
I guess they were trying to find out while role passives were most popular. Which is daft as role passives shouldn’t be a thing.
I really enjoyed this hacked event. I only played open queue, but the game play had some of that ow1 feeling for me.
The games were very even and i only had 3 stomps.
Nothing felt too overly op, but made the game a bit fresher as the enemy players were always a bit different. Choosing passives that complimented their personal play styles.
I wouldn’t mind if adjusted versions of these were implemented in some ways.
(Some need more hero to hero adjustment than others)
