I think the pace completely breaks the core gameplay. Yes it’s nice to not wait too long to respawn but waow I just C9’d 5 games in a row because the tick speed is on steroids. Really off
I don’t like it. The game is already one of the fastest. If not THE fastest fps games out there and we don’t need it to be faster.
I have no desire to see the game develop in this faster direction. For me the issues are these:
- Faster respawns means mistakes are less punishing, implicitly reducing the impact of game sense in a shooter that feel like home for those of us with brains but bad aim
- One of my favorite parts of working with a team is figuring out and solving problems. Yes, stalemates aren’t fun, but breaking one is a great feeling, and it won’t happen in shorter games.
- Most importantly, this moves OW gameplay closer to call of duty-esque run and gun aim duels. OW is unique and shouldn’t try to fit in!
Honestly, if they want to get rid of Flashpoint while we’re looking at this stuff, I’m 100% for it
I never write on here, Please for the love of all that is holy, do not make this permanent. Quick play is the only fun game mode left, and this has managed to ruin it. The queues to get a game takes twice the time it takes to play a game, how is that supposed to feel rewarding?
naaah. not my cup of tea. It’s already one of the quickest games anyways…
This… No idea who came up with this idea…
i like it. SO much better then regular quick play. Matches in QP should last 5-10 mins not 20-30 mins.
Having too much fun.
Been playing since almost the beginning and if this goes through I will likely not play anymore. I am stoked to see we’re trying new things but maybe spend more time balancing hero stats instead. Plus, a forced mode is trash and should never be implemented. Modes aren’t fun and I can’t play with my friends. It’s kinda sad and I hope they go back to the normal and just do player balancing
some modes are okay. Its more snowball heavy. Lots of balance issues in true ow2 fashion. Can kiri get some suzu nerfs like no invulnerability. Why can she 1v1 any Dps because she can 2 shot and has an ability that heals and makes her invincible. Lots of other balance complaints but theyll just balance what they think is best and make the game more frustrating to play. Quicker play is ok since its experimental but Mauga buffs, Orisa buffs, invincibility in the game, heroes in the BP. The list could go on
Mauga got nerfed, and orisa only got slightly buffed to be able to withstand mauga better.
The suzu got nerfed recently and the invulnerability window with it is only 0.6 seconds or so.
Half a second of invulnerability isn’t that bad in the grand scheme of things. Especially since for it to work right, the player’s ping needs to be relatively low.
On higher pings the suzu’s invulnerability is of relatively little use, especially for countering ults.
There used to be a laboratory for such experiments.
Not a fan. The games are decided after 1-2 fights. Especially on certain maps. Makes the 'Ult economy" strategy of the game pointless almost. There were some games our team wouldn’t even get ults and vice-versa. Way too snowbally and doesn’t even leave time to actually make adjustments (swaps or playstyle wise) as your team just gets walked over after they lose 1 fight.
Really hope this doesn’t become the default for QP.
I certainly think there’s a couple of things they can take from it…
7 minutes for a push game instead of 10, would be fine in quick play.
But must of it is rubbish
The amount of new things in this game are super rare so old digruntled players log in (or create) some smurf account to “f” around with it. Smurf stacks are very common in these type of events, they are already playing some other game regularly, as an OW loyalist you will just have a bad time.
If Blizzard wants to bring a fresh breath into their game, they need to find and hire dedicated play testers. These type of cheap actions only cannibalize more on the dwindling player numbers.
That 50 kill sojourn with its mercy pocket, and no prior record, just picked up the game yesterday right? dafuq man, blizzard are noobs, not the old crew anymore. Free to play killed this game, 20-30 bucks was nothing in the first place now its an alt fest. So simple to create a hollow account for the new event and troll away.
They have about 3k people who play on test servers. Not sure who makes up the total of it but its definitely all ActiBlizz staff, family members and so on.
Player numbers aren’t dwindling. All data that tracks that suggests its higher now that it has been since OW2 launched. Some months it drops a little, some it goes up. Higher than Valorant, but that isn’t too surprising.
Since launch 8 months have seen an increase, 7 have seen a decrease but the decreases have been noticeably smaller.
Given that in the last 3/4 years of OW1, most accounts were on sale for far less than $20-30, most alts were created in OW1. My main and my alt cost me a total of about $10 combined. Only this account is an OW2 account because I wanted to see how long it took to unlock everything.
But to get it back on point… Yes the lack of content for an old player is annoying. Although far better than it was in OW1. Personally the content hasn’t been for me, I don’t really care for the event game modes, I have no desire to buy skins, I just want to play fun Overwatch matches.
Those 3k people who play on test server arent even worth 10 ppl who really know this game and the interactions between the characters. So putting aunt Sally on a computer not gonna cut it for the standard this game needs.
I dont have any reference for or against what you claimed about player numbers, its just that I never seen 2 stacks face each other consecutively in QP nor Comp before, for that matter. So Im remaining sceptical about your claims as Blizzard denies official counts.
Seeing day one characters perform high lvl plays every time a new “thing” comes online in this game, still supports my scepticism about numerous throw away alt accounts being created for the job. You and I may be an exception, doesnt change the evidence.
I do have desire to buy skins, if they were good, some old epic skins are better than legendary ones or epic ones… and also play fun rounds ofc.
There were a lot of pros and stuff on there too. But obvious the last time they spoke about it was pre-OW2 launch, so no idea what it is like now.
Fair. The numbers I’ve looked at are 3rd party, so pinch of salt needed, but they are a good reference for trends. The also follow the MAU’s Activision publish in their annual reports. So I am personally happy enough with the accuracy (otherwise I wouldn’t quote them).
I’ve mostly played open queue recently, and in ranked you do see the same stacks occasionally in a few games. But to me that makes sense. If our MMRs mean we match on the same team… it makes sense that after 1 game win or loss, our MMRs would still be about the same… so if we both queue straight after the match, we should logically get in the same lobby again.
There all always be “legacy” players creating new accounts. Will mean the new player games at the start will be scuffed, but they always were. If this account is anything to go by, I was playing diamond and master players when I queued tank in about 9/10 games.
We’ll see what Season 9 brings, if the promisses hold true… im excited. If not I might go back to MWO (yea its slow, but its adult community) or hell I might even go back to FCing in EVE (aka herding cats). At least ppl are passionate about those games.
I am just playing the new Assassins Creed while OW is a bit drab. Probably playing OW maybe twice a week atm.
I don’t really play QP any more, just stick to ranked. But I did give this quicker play 1 try and it felt awful. But they weren’t trying to please everyone with it, so maybe the next one will be more for me.
I do think they will end up learning that shorter games overall for quick play is a good thing. Like the Control maps are good for quick play. Fast matches, not stuck on attack or defend… So things like Flashpoint, Push and the new 5CP mode should be good quick play options.
I can see them reducing the game time in Push in quick play. Maybe speed up the bot to compensate.
You missed the point from your first sentence. Context is everything so if you read that i was talking about frustrating balance changes then you would understand I was talking about the buffs that made him broken. Suzu got buffed recently with stronger heals not nerfed. Shorter invulnerability as you said is irrelevant because its strong no matter its length. It also being on two of the strongest abilities (Immortality field and Suzu) means it IS THAT BAD IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS to reference you. Also you are very incorrect since you can suzu a several ults without having good ping as long as your not lagging to the point the game is unplayable. Bastion, Dva, and queen ults to name a few.
I play the support role primarily and love playing ana but im not going to defend abilities that are objectively broken and I know are not fun to play against and wont make much of a difference for support players unless you like relying on buttons rather than skill.
Anyways, quicker play felt awful in some modes but the balancing direction needs to improve.
