Hello,
So as the title suggests I have been having random and unexplained disconnects whilst I am in the middle of playing a match. It usually goes as follows: Playing a round of Quickplay, the game will cut to the infamous red “Lost connection to server screen”, then it will log be back in, pretty much instantly and I will be back on the main menu. This disconnect is always completely unexpected, and totally random. There is never any in-game lag or FPS drops, discord is still running when I’m using it ect, meaning my wifi connection isn’t the problem.
I have tried a wide number of fixes so far, which have not solved this issue:
-Going through Blizzard supports list of possible fixes here: Overwatch 2 Disconnection Problems - Blizzard Support
-Following the port set up instructions here: Troubleshooting Firewall Configuration Issues - Blizzard Support
-Enabling client send rate
-Going into my PC’s power management settings and optimising them
-Using Google’s DNS servers in the settings.
- Updated all of my drivers to the latest versions.
I am now going to try:
-Setting Overwatch as my administrator (Apparantley, this has worked for some?)
-Setting a static IP adress
-Going into the advanced settings of my wifi adapter and optimising them.
If anyone has any explanations or fixes not shown here, please please PELASE help me out. This is driving me insane.
Thanks.
hello blizzards tech support workers. I have had the same things happen to me and I do not know how to fix this i will be in a match and all of a sudden, BAM! i get disconnected from the server and it says that i have been disconnected from the server because i do not have a stable connnection. but it only happens like every 10 min and its random. I need help because I am loosing SR and it only happens to me on YOUR games such as destiny and this
Hi,
did you try playing a game while Discord is not running in the background?
Can you connect your PC with ethernet cable and try few games in that setup?
I had some connectivity issues in the past, you should try running WinMTR program to see if you’re loosing any data while gaming (your internet can be fine, Discord can run smoothly etc but you’ll still disconnect).
When you run WinMTR you can post your results in your post, use Pastebin site to upload all information you get from it.
Played without discord running multiple times, ie, without any bandwith hogging apps. Still run into the problem. I am going to use WinMTR now. I will post my results when they are ready.
You’ll see in MTR what IP address (double click on it for more info) is losing packages in %, then you can paste that IP address into http:// whois. domaintools .com/ (remove space between, I can’t paste full links) and see if it’s your ISP or someone else.
Thank you so much. Tried this method. Played for about 2 hours, no disconnects though… so maybe setting a static IP or, setting OW as the admin, ect potentially fixed my issue. If not, I will run WinMTR and paste my results. And if worst comes to the worse, I’ll buy an adapter and use an ethernet connection instead.

It could be some of the things you mentioned. Troubleshooting is bothersome to do, but still if you want to play game without disconnects it can help, also you can learn something new while doing that.
It’s great that it works for now, if you experience any disconnects in future run WinMTR and observe where the problem occurs (on what IP address).
Ideally it would be for you to run it on ethernet cable since the speed is double in comparison to wifi and more importantly it’s more stable.

Everything’s been fine for the last few days. No disconnects out of nowhere. However, tonight, I started getting actual lagspikes, and then a large lagspike, and then a disconnect. Happened twice now. Hopefully its just my net playing up a little, I’ve since just played a match and had nothing happen as of yet.
If this new problem persists, I’m stumped.
I would run WinMTR in the background whole time and when you disconnect you’ll see where the problem occurs (on what IP address) by % in data loss.
example in YT video below:
or run steps from this official guide
I think that people tend to overthink issues like these, tweaking settings they know nothing about, often exexacerbating the original problem.
We need to keep this simple.
My advice would be to reset your router to default and then…
Set wifi channel to 6 -2.4ghz and channel 40 - 5ghz (not auto as the switching can cause disconnects)
Set your DHCP server on router to manually assign an IP address to your pc’s mac address.
Make sure UPNP is on
Make sure DDos Protection is off (unlikely you will ever need at home and puts unnecessary load on router throughput)
uninstall your wifi card on your pc and then run a clean fresh install of it.
Then go to windows 10 settings, networking & internet and perform a network reset.
You can change the network settings on your pc to use google DNS, it won’t hurt anything if you do.
Leave the Assign IP address to auto as this is assigned from DHCP we discussed earlier.
I would also turn off QOS on the network car network settings.
Try that, see how it goes.
I don’t know what wifi card you have etc, but standard ones are often not great. I would highly recommend getting a TP Link PCI wifi card as they massively improve signal and speed ( I get 140MBPS download off mine over wifi
) Type TP Link Wifi Card into Amazon, there is a whole range from 300mb up to AC1900, (I use the 300mb one and the performance is insane)
Good luck
